How many photo ops will us lowly normal people receive for our tax money?

0 ( +18 / -18 )

Not only do they have far far less. The Chinese already pledged, No First Strike. So, first, how about the American led group, also make the same pledge, First. Then the majority of the world can take your statements/communiqués with some seriousness??

-2 ( +15 / -17 )

The Chinese already pledged, No First Strike.

Is that like the pledge not to militarise the islands in the South China Sea, Okuniyoshi. Should we listen to any pledge from China any more after that?

6 ( +21 / -15 )

Leaders of the world’s most powerful democracies warned China and North Korea against building up their nuclear arsenals

Democracies?

North Korea is a democracy - it's the People's Democratic Republic of Korea.

Is there a true democracy on this planet?

-4 ( +19 / -23 )

Is that like the pledge not to militarize the islands in the South China Sea

No, it’s not the same. They are saying they will build more islands in the West Philippines Sea. They are also drilling oil and gas there. It’s not pledging and not abiding by it. It is aggressively doing exact what they say they will do.

-11 ( +7 / -18 )

Are they militarised, queercetum? Did China pledge not to militarise them? Can history be re-written? Certainly some try.

7 ( +13 / -6 )

Is that like the pledge not to militarise the islands in the South China Sea

90% of the buildings on those islands are for civilians use only and of course China needs to put some weapons and military aircraft on them for self defense Like every island the US occupied. If China really wants to militarize these islands they can even put nuclear weapons on them.

-7 ( +7 / -14 )

“Russia started this war and can end this war,” they said.

It's been 15-month, and Russia did not end the war. Are we still waiting for Russia to end the war? Can be a long wait...

4 ( +10 / -6 )

Better come with plan other than more of the same, as Ukraine's moving rapidly to failed state status. Why?

Number of recently trained UA for upcoming offensive, far too small to shift balance of conflict meaningfully.

Citizens leaving and less and less likely to return as country disintegrates. Estimated with 4 regions now under Russian control, plus those abroad, population now 15M - 20M LESS than Ukraine pre-war of 43M.

Keep in mind it's best and brightest leaving Ukraine and more leave every day as war madness continues.

Neutrality's path to Peace & Prosperity, works WELL successful European Countries like Austria & Switzerland.

-11 ( +10 / -21 )

Reserved judgement/opinions? Wait and see how the Chinese response/will response after/if the American removed its First Island Chain??? Then its Second?? May i propose that The Chinese actions in the SCS is due to the Island Chains built by, The American???

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

Is it fine for G7 nations to possess nuclear weapons but for other nations not to?

Calls for nuclear prohibitions seem a touch ironic to me.

3 ( +13 / -10 )

Hilarious hypocrisy.... So the US, UK and France are all going to mothball their nukes?

-5 ( +14 / -19 )

Reserved judgement/opinions? Wait and see how the Chinese response/will response after/if the American removed its First Island Chain??? Then its Second?? May i propose that The Chinese actions in the SCS is due to the Island Chains built by, The American???

May I propose that China will make no such adjustments without touching off WW3?

5 ( +10 / -5 )

Hilarious hypocrisy.... So the US, UK and France are all going to mothball their nukes?

The statement can be read as saying that because China has no transparency or meaningful military dialog, the G7 must assume they are going all the way to US and Russia levels of nukes. Nothing hypocritical about saying that no dialog is a risk.

3 ( +11 / -8 )

It's been 15-month, and Russia did not end the war. Are we still waiting for Russia to end the war? Can be a long wait...

All the more reason why Russia has to be removed from Ukraine now.

7 ( +18 / -11 )

Can someone buy this guy a suit and a tie? I get what fashion statement he's going for, but now that he's out and about meeting world leaders it's time to up your fashion game.

Ukraine on certain path to surrendering as massive ongoing population exodus, insufficient UA numbers, destruction of entire country etc., continues unabated.

UA forces recently trained for upcoming offensive, less than 50k, that's joke, everyone knows it.

European Countries of Austria & Switzerland happily engage in helping Ukraine Achieve Great Neutral Peace and Prosperity, vs. current failed state pathway above.

-11 ( +6 / -17 )

They have been responsible for the major recent worldwide conflicts (who invaded Irak again?) including the Russia-Ukraine one.

If you are going to blame the victim nobody is going to take the rest of what you have to say seriously.

zelensky is basking in the limelight while his country is burning down. He can’t back out otherwise the Global Financial Capitalists will do him in. The GFCs is striking two birda with one stone, totally degrade Russia and Western Europe. I, also, won’t be surprised if a false-flag op happens in a country in Europe so as to activate NATO’s article 5.

There’ll be NO winning against a nuke state with a people pathological averse to defeat like the Russians.

-12 ( +7 / -19 )

raft of global worries demanding urgent attention, including climate change, AI, poverty and economic instability, nuclear proliferation and, above all, the war in Ukraine. China, the world’s No. 2 economy, sits at the nexus of many of those concerns."

Perhaps so...but if honest we should well admit the West / US sits right next to China or above it when it comes to " many of those concerns ".

Ukrainian pilots in F-16s flying sorties into Russian held Ukraine or into Russia will lead to a massive escalation and all out conflict in many countries.

Russia managed defeat pretty well in WW1 and Afghanistan. I know they can do it again!

10 ( +15 / -5 )

Perhaps so...but if honest we should well admit the West / US sits right next to China or above it when it comes to " many of those concerns ".

Nobody says the West isn't involved with those concerns. If China wants to return to negotiating tables it can do so at any time. It doesn't seem like they want to, though.

5 ( +10 / -5 )

Ukrainian pilots in F-16s flying sorties into Russian held Ukraine or into Russia will lead to a massive escalation and all out conflict in many countries.

That's a risk we'll all have to take: no security at any country's expense and Ukraine needs to control its air to stop things being done at its expense.

90% of the buildings on those islands are for civilians use only and of course China needs to put some weapons and military aircraft on them for self defense

lol, what? They weren't above water before China started.

Like every island the US occupied.

The islands you are thinking of are most likely actual islands with people living on them and have been that way for centuries.

If China really wants to militarize these islands they can even put nuclear weapons on them.

And what will that say to the world about threatening Vietnam, the Phillipines, Indonesia, etc. etc. ? And btw, the US will continue to sail right by them.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

FDR or Churchill never wore a tracksuit. Stalin wore a military uniform so that is an option. Just saying...

Zelenskyy isn't looking to appear as a business tycoon or a tinpot dictator. His country is in a war for its life and the uniform that seems to be called for is simple and practical.

Ukraine can be 'brave' & failed state or 'brave' and highly successful happy prosperous neutral country not having to worry about parasite outsiders using it to conduct proxy wars like Switzerland and Austria! Seems obvious choice to most except those with an agenda.

Your definition of a "neutral country" is actually Russian oblast, which by the look of things would have no industry except making artillery shells and vodka.

Of course it's a fashion statement. He's not fighting in the trenches and is perfectly capable of wearing more formal attire. He wears this to create an image of a fighter and hero that some people just seem to eat up.

The important of this G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan, cannot be understated.

The war in Ukraine, a 15-month invasion. is heading to a fork.

Either the Russian Government withdraws it army, or a rapid escalation of Ukraine retaliatory strikes and counter offensives

The green light on F-16 training is the latest shift by the Biden administration as it moves to arm Ukraine with more advanced and lethal weaponry, following earlier decisions to send rocket launcher systems and Abrams tanks. The United States has insisted that it is sending weapons to Ukraine to defend itself and has discouraged attacks by Ukraine into Russian territory.

The Government of China under the cover of this war has increased its rhetoric time and again to invade Taiwan, and seize the adjacent vital global shipping lanes

No more pussy footing this G7 summit must produce solid support for Ukraine and clear polices to deter the Government of China threats to take such actions.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

Business Insider also quite professional, their F-16 Ukraine article's an eye opener, for all those who seek to avoid delusion. Airspace the most dangerous 'theater' in Ukraine.

Former F-16 pilot says he would not want to fly missions over Ukraine right now, arguing 'there is no fighting chance'

Suggest Ukraine adopt Plan B Neutrality with Great European Role Models Switzerland and Austria, now that's a hopeful future!

North Korea is a democracy - it's the People's Democratic Republic of Korea.

Please name ANY opposition political parties in NK that would make it a genuine democracy, and not just having the word in their name.

It takes more than one political party to have a functioning democracy.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Ukraine has been fighting back bravely for 15 months, and handing numerous defeats to the numerically superior Russian invaders.

Ukraine can be 'brave' & failed state or 'brave' and highly successful happy prosperous neutral country

This is a false dilemma. There are many other options.

Love optimism and I admire their bravery but there is hard reality. UK military analysts are clear, UA just trained with new equipment and trying conduct offensive operations, all exceedingly difficult but with fewer than 50k troop count ready to go, it's hopeless. Offensive operations require major numerical superiority and experience not the opposite.

> Ukraine could very easily be brave, highly successful, return to its pre-2014 borders, and become a full member of both the EU and NATO.

If you look at Public opinion on the war in Ukraine (europa.eu), no appetite for continued military support of Ukraine, but humanitarian support yes. It's collapsing, dropped 20pts in Germany in just last month. No appetite for their NATO Membership either.

Most important, Ukrainians all leaving, failed state's happening daily and Russia's not going anywhere. It's clear neutrality's only viable path for Ukraine. Nothing easy about this matter but Ukraine leadership needs to see reality and not engulf world into chaos.

-10 ( +5 / -15 )

Please name ANY opposition political parties in NK that would make it a genuine democracy

NK and China are not democracies so the people are happy and secure. They have long term leaders who care about their people. Democratic countries have a choice of two parties, who are both corrupt and self serving, with the main goal of getting re-elected in 4-5 years time.

I am reading that Putin's replacement, if he is deposed could be out of the frying pan into the fire.

The stage has been inadvertently set for what could ignite a global catastrophe.

So what are we left with.

Not I'm afraid, suggest, can be described as the magnificent seven.

Let be open and honest.

Right location, however all have there own political agendas.

I do have faith in Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, he has won the hearts of his people against all odds.

FDR or Churchill never wore a tracksuit.

Zelenskyy isn't wearing a "track suit". Perhaps you're thinking of Russian mobsters, for whom a track suit is the standard costume.

Stalin wore a military uniform so that is an option. Just saying...

Zelenskyy is wearing military style clothing. It is not a uniform, per se. But, it is similar to what might be worn by off-duty military personnel or civilian military employees.

You've picked a weird and trivial thing to obsess on.

2 ( +8 / -6 )

Russia will not stop until its security is guaranteed. Clear as two times two

Actually Russia will stop when any of the following conditions are met:

It gets tired of its citizens dying for nothing.

It is no longer capable of mounting offensive operations.

It is forcibly ejected from Ukraine.

It really should take the first option. Otherwise it will get one or both of the latter and we no longer much care which it is.

But make no mistake: The Russians ARE leaving.

That is so simple, even a Putin-fan can understand it. I

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Obsess on? It's rather basic decorum you must admit. Do you know anything about formal meetings especially in Japan? I get it, it looked strong for a month or two. Now that he can jet around the world and meet other leaders wear a suit and a tie.

-8 ( +4 / -12 )

Readers, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy's attire is not relevant to this discussion.

Like the Russian unstoppable missiles being taken down by the US patriot system? Ukraine has been embarrassing Russia on the world stage.

Are u about the patriot systems damaged in Kyiv a few days ago?How many coffins covered with the American flag did you receive after this your success? Have you already met them? Or were you not told about it? Pure curiosity. I know that they are "several", exact amount I don't know.

Ukrainian President Zelensky, his hand is on his heart, he is wearing his people's survival.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived Saturday in Japan for diplomatic talks with the leaders of the world’s most powerful democracies as they tighten sanctions meant to punish Moscow over its 15-month invasion of Ukraine.

Zelenskyy’s decision to visit Hiroshima stems from his “strong wish” to participate in talks with the Group of Seven and other countries that will influence his nation’s defense against Russia, host nation Japan said.

Welcome, Mr. Zelenskyy. Good luck.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

Are u about the patriot systems damaged in Kyiv a few days ago?

Yeah, the one that your boys targeted and could only damage slightly.

It’s been repaired and returned to service.

The one that blew up 37 out of 38 of your “unstoppable” missiles.

That one.

North Korea is a democracy - it's the People's Democratic Republic of Korea.

Lol! So, if the word "Democracy" is in a country's title that makes them Democratic? I imagine you think Nazi Germany was also a socialist country. Hey, it's in the name!

Is there a true democracy on this planet?

Define "true democracy." However you do, I'd say without a doubt the US and countries in Europe are far more democratic than North Korea or China, that's for sure!

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Ukraine can easily end this conflict.

I suppose it could surrender.

I have a better idea!

Let’s make sure the Russians suffer such a humiliating ass- kicking (sorry “strategic defeat”…. My bad) that they quit Ukraine, go the f- home AND STAY THERE.

That sounds quite doable because for all their fan-bois huffing and puffing, The Russians objectively suck at combined-arms warfare.

Their tanks burn, their planes crash, their ships sink. The only targets they seem to be able to bomb reliably are maternity hospitals and their own cities, and now we can defend the maternity hospitals with Patriots.

So let’s give the Ukrainian Army what it needs and let it do what it’s good at: blowing Russians up.

Eventually, the Russians will go home or there wont be enough Russians left to invade.

Problem solved. By Ukraine. As suggested.

You’re welcome, CPTOMO. Thanks for your feedback.

Carlos,

I share your feeling. Biden has given him over 100 billion dollars, now jets and much more. What's next?-- Military advisers on the ground? Sounds like Viet Nam all over again.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Accept that this isn’t Vietnam, this isn’t a morally equivalent situation.

The Russians are wrong, and this was supposed to be the opening act in their greater Russia bid.

The only acceptable result of attempting to redraw the borders of Europe through violence is strategic defeat and that’s what is going to happen to Putin’s Russia.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

EFD,,

Shades of how Viet Nam started with the USA providing weapons and money and eventually military advisors.

The USA was afraid that communism would spread to South Vietnam and then the rest of Asia. It decided to send money, supplies and military advisers to help the South Vietnamese Government. And then JFK sent 16,000 US troops as "military advisors" in to help train . And things went to hell after that. Biden seems to be doing the same thing. A lot of pockets were lined with the money JFK sent and I feel that is happening in Ukraine now. Right or wrong that is my opinion.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Shades of how Viet Nam started with the USA providing weapons and money and eventually military advisors.

Absolutely incorrect: the South Vietnam government was very shaky throughout its existence. France and the US were having to prop it up from the beginning and deal with villagers undermining and shifting allegiance. In contrast, Ukraine has shown its willingness to kill the Russian wherever he is found on their territory.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

How many coffins covered with the American flag did you receive after this your success?

Precisely zero. Unlike Russians, Americans don't just take their people disappearing as part of the cost of empire.

Ukraine's Zelenskyy arrives in Hiroshima as G7 leaders sanction Russia

On the same day that the russians completely take Bakhmut.....how embarrassing !

Title: Ukraine's Zelenskyy arrives in Hiroshima as G7 leaders sanction Russia

Quote from above:

“Russia’s brutal war of aggression represents a threat to the whole world in breach of fundamental norms, rules and principles of the international community. We reaffirm our unwavering support for Ukraine for as long as it takes to bring a comprehensive, just and lasting peace,” the group said.

You know what is good about this quote and the article? It is straightforward and sane. No comparisons of Hiroshima's atomic devastation and Ukraine and not a "word" about "genocide." The horror of Russia's aggression is enough without false analogies. Ukraine's is not a Hiroshima and Nagasaki, thank goodness. The unspeakable horror of the death of civilian Ukrainians is enough--there is no need to bring in the Holocaust.

The worst that leaders can do is to turn rational language into hyperbole. Thank goodness that has not and likely will not happen.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

"the US were having to prop it up from the beginning" Taiwanisnotchina---your words---that is exactly what Biden is doing in Ukraine now. It's time to end the bankroll of this war. The US has done enough--
