Those who oppose the bill are still haunted by the memory of militaristic and nationalistic old Japan before the war.

Should target yakuza with such laws

In 2006 they made it illegal to be part of a crime syndicate or gang, but I am yet to see any arrests under this law. They know who and where these Yaks are but do nothing other than a token raid every couple of years that always result in no arrests. This 'debate' is just another dog and pony show to make it look like the J-gov is actually doing something about the Yaks, but I doubt if we will see any arrests from it.

They keep banging on about ratifying the convention they signed in 2000, yet:
"Joseph Cannataci, the United Nations special rapporteur on the right to privacy, wrote to Mr. Abe warning that the bill, if adopted, could “lead to undue restrictions to the rights to privacy and to freedom of expression."
The J-Gov wants to cherry pick U.N. conventions that suit them but ignore the rest. Borderline rogue state.
I have no idea why people downvote this (apart from the paid right-wingers here). They either don't care about humanity, or Japan.

Just to add, for those who may not know. If you don't know about pre-war Japan's human rights abuses and why this bill should have people very worried, look up the kempeitai (憲兵隊). Conveniently not taught in Japanese schools - or at least skimmed over.

Why bother? They are just going to ram it through like they have done with every other bill that was unpopular. This is just a show to pretend that there is a semblance of democracy. They are going to ram it through. Mark my words.
Translation: we are going to use this bill to make sure that we impose draconian laws and further infringe on your rights.

Thanks agentx. Very interesting reading about kempeitai

One worshiper of Abe government insisted:"criticism against Abe government is Terrorism of Speech".
and Prime Minister Abe agreed it on facebook.
