Zelenskyy has the balls.

Japan will support Ukraine

Believe it when I see it!

Yeah, I noticed that. Lost in translation, I guess.

-3 ( +6 / -9 )

He's right of course. We likely haven't seen this level of devastation since WW2 and 99% of it is a warcrime by Russia.

-6 ( +20 / -26 )

You forgot the /s tag.

Nothing sarcastic about it: this man goes to the frontline in daytime. Putin doesn't even leave his house without his goons clearing the streets.

The sanctioning of F16s would have been a gamechanger earlier but unfortunately comes a little late. Russia is well and truly dug in and even with the west's equipment it is unlikely there be little change in the territory now held by the Russians. Unfortunately Russia is just a far bigger country and Ukraine will eventually have to concede some land. The only possible way for Ukraine to win is with political turmoil within Russia and some form of coup.

Modern warfare should make trench warfare obsolete. The only reason it hasn't is because Russia is so terrible at this and Ukraine hasn't had enough of the modern equipment. We'll see if Ukraine finally has enough to kick in what remains of Russia's glory.

Unfortunately Russia is just a far bigger country and Ukraine will eventually have to concede some land.

We've seen how terrible Russia is at military endeavors and that is a big front to defend. Chances are land can be snatched back somewhere.

From the scene of the crime, equating the most monstrous war crime in history with a contemporary conflict, while completely failing to mention who actually did it... now that take some mental gymnastics.

They mentioned Russia, who is doing the war criming today.

-6 ( +11 / -17 )

Putin knew all along the Ukraine conflict would be a long-lasting one.

This false narrative endless loop of a quick takeover by Russia is false information designed as propaganda.

If Putin knew his push on Kiev was going to get chewed up and spit out, he would never have done it. If he knew he was going to lose 10s of thousands in Bakhmut, he would never have done it. These are facts at this point.

On the other hand we have definitely seen how terribly inefficient the US military has been at winning conflicts recently... lmfao

3 weeks to Baghdad... lmfao

-11 ( +6 / -17 )

US regime says 100k Wagner soldiers died in Bakhmut. Yet, they were still able to go on the offensive and take the city. According to the US regime, how large is Wagner???? General Milley also said he spoke with head of the Ukrainian armed forces, Zaluzhnyi 2 days ago. According to numerous reports General Zaluzhny was seriously injured in early May during a missile attack on the headquarters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Pavlograd. Several serious surgical operations were performed after which, if he survives, he will definitely not be able to adequately manage the army.

So who is lying? We all know the US regime doesn't lie, don't we?

Seriously, the regime here in Japan must be very seriously blackmailed. The US regime has absolutely nothing to offer Japan except more inflation, poverty and bad relations with Japan's very big neighbors.

It is that NATO really expects the Russians to conduct the war on a timeline NATO wants or are Western regimes lying to the population?

It is that Russia clearly failed at all of their military objectives except the land bridge. Whole rest of the year to fail Russia on that, too.

-1 ( +10 / -11 )

I just really hope the good guys win and the baddies lose.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Everyone is lying to everyone, unfortunately.

While Ukraine was not much of a democracy (jailing political opponents, closing newspapers not friendly to the government, etc.), Putin’s blatant invasion is worse.

It’s always been that way in that part of the world. As far back as you want to look. Dictatorial leaders have been the norm, not the exception.

Putin’s gone over the edge. When dictators begin fretting about their legacy, and the legacy of their “people,” bad things are going to happen.

Regardless of the past, the present is what matters most to people trying to live and thrive.

To rebuild Ukraine like Hiroshima requires an end to hostilities. Otherwise, impossible to rebuild, continued destruction and depopulation of Ukraine will continue = Failed State Path.

Credible recent polling on public opinion on War in Ukraine by (europa.eu). Germans, 20% DROP in their support for continued military assistance in Last Month. Same story across all of Europe, risk of escalation, inflation, no path to victory, primary reasons. All support Ukraine humanitarian needs.

Great sign Ukrainian leadership now talking about peace plan openly. Healthy safe neutral Democracy is what's needed to rebuild Ukraine and get many of their citizens fleeing to return to help with this enormous task.

A true leader of our times, I have nothing but respect for this man. Furthermore, Putin never imagined he would be this capable, I imagine,

Yes, Kishida is a great leader and so is  Zelenskyy.

1 ( +8 / -7 )

Co-worker asked me this morning already what I thought of Zelenskyy visiting. I told him that basically until the moment Zelenskyy departed again I had been worried about an assassination attempt and had thought it was a very bad idea. But, since it all went off safely, in the end I think there were some good points, like that he refocused some parts of the meeting on what is important.

He told me that he was VERY glad when Zelenskyy accepted Japan's invitation, and was glad he visited the Peace Museum, but when he said what he said about devastation in Ukraine he wished Zelenskyy hadn't come. "They are NOTHING alike!" he said.

That's all it was for this man -- he wanted the fame and the photo ops, but the not the speech. Being reminded that the Hiroshima bombings are not the immediate focus infuriated and embarrassed him (not sure why the latter, except maybe the realization himself). I suspect a lot of people feel the same way -- just wish Zelenskyy hadn't been allowed to speak his mind or talk about his own nation, only say thanks for being able to visit the museum. Zelenskyy is a TRUE leader.

-7 ( +9 / -16 )

Yes, Kishida is a great leader and so is Zelenskyy.

Really depends how one defines great. Seems he's not been great at Ukraine risk mgmt. based on today's catastrophic situation, leaked US CIA intel etc. Nobody can recall any effort to engage Mr. Putin directly for all these years since being elected, trying to find off-ramps.

Let's hope all these leaders can learn from the past, set aside ego and make better judgments moving forward. It'll take real compromise. Rebuilding Ukraine requires achieving durable peace, it'll take real leadership.

As only alternative's present status quo failed state path, that causes enormous damage globally, especially EU

PS. Kishida did great job promoting communications, too bad Chinese & Russian representatives not present.

Zelenskyy likens war-torn Ukraine to A-bombed Hiroshima.

There are similarities. Both countries initiated actions and policies that started the conflict and eventually led to their destruction.

Ukraine did nothing warranting an a-bombing.

-1 ( +10 / -11 )

To rebuild Ukraine like Hiroshima requires an end to hostilities. Otherwise, impossible to rebuild, continued destruction and depopulation of Ukraine will continue = Failed State Path.

It's impossible rebuild Mariupol with Nazis in Mariupol. Also it is impossible to rebuild without the ability to make Russia think twice about bombing.

Why do I think this is more of your misinterpretation of polls?

Great sign Ukrainian leadership now talking about peace plan openly.

Source? The 10 point peace plan of Zelenskyy remains the only credible peace plan.

Healthy safe neutral Democracy is what's needed to rebuild Ukraine and get many of their citizens fleeing to return to help with this enormous task.

Russia destroyed any neutrality by shamelessly invading. It will not return.

When the war broke out in Ukraine western leaders rushed to their handy phones offering to help in Pres. Zelenskyy evacuation, in other words Run Away like a coward! assuming that he is like most other so called world LEADERS instead he told them he NOT going NO PLACE other than his nation, and told them I need weapons , send me weapons to fight not planes to evacuate.

Looking back at this and makes most of us think there are still " A FEW GOOD MEN" around.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Russia destroyed Afghanistan in the 80's, then with Wagner fighters killed and burned Syrians while asleep in their homes in 2015, killed and destroyed the lives of tribes in Africa and now Ukraine.

The world stood by and watched back then until Putin made his final and possibly fatal mistake and started a war in Europe.

Yep, history repeats, just like Cuba and their Russian relations for many years leading up to 1962 Missile Crisis. US response with massive expansion of Guantanamo Bay Military Base etc.

Only Cuba in no position to take on US as Russian Proxy army, resupply bit tougher than present Ukraine quagmire = failed state path. Cuba made wise choice.

Let's hope peace prevails ASAP, compromise needed for sake of entire World, especially Ukraine!

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

Yes, Ukraine Russian PEACE Possible, look at Germany & France today. Like all such conflicts, most people have no real animosity, rather it's Clear Leadership Failures.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

I just wonder how much debt will be on Ukraine after all this ends?

All this "AID" is going to haunt them for next century.

just ask Brits for WW2 "aids" took them half of the century to pay back to US.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Leaders of Central Asia countries like Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyztan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan may be looking at the situation in Ukraine very closely. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko is also closely watching it.

They may have all been reminded of what would happen if they didn't follow Moscow's dictation, and so the Belarus president may claim his iron-fist dictatorship to rule the country, thus preventing the opposition party from declining to the West too much, is correct.

Not going to matter if Ukraine is enslaved to Russia which is the alternative.

Yep, history repeats, just like Cuba and their Russian relations for many years leading up to 1962 Missile Crisis. US response with massive expansion of Guantanamo Bay Military Base etc.

At least you backed off claiming that Guantanamo Bay was founded in the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Only Cuba in no position to take on US as Russian Proxy army, resupply bit tougher than present Ukraine quagmire = failed state path. Cuba made wise choice.

Guantanamo Bay isn't a threat to Cuba's existence. Russia's continual assaults directly on Kyiv are.

Yes, Ukraine Russian PEACE Possible, look at Germany & France today. Like all such conflicts, most people have no real animosity, rather it's Clear Leadership Failures.

Germany was rolled back to achieve that peace. The model is to roll Russia back so they can live in peace as well.

Reports are coming through from the G7, Lula of Brazil who attended as a guest, arranged a one-on-one meeting with Zelensky but he didn't turn up and snubbed Lula.

" until the moment Zelenskyy departed again I had been worried about an assassination attempt and had thought it was a very bad idea. "

I dont think Putin is so stupid to try assassinate Zelensky in Japan.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

If one looks at Gallop polling in Crimea pre-Feb 2022, really any year b/w 2015 and 2021, LARGE majorities preferred being Russian citizens vs. Ukrainian citizens.

It's likely these other 4 recently occupied areas with strong Russian speaking majorities, will have similar views that will be expressed to independent observers.

Above should be part of peace negotiation, let these people decide, a why would Ukraine even want such citizens, surely it will not facilitate regional stability.

Main point, pathway to peace, rebuilding, future prosperity, Democracy, not deadly proxy army status but rather Safe Successful Neutrality like Austria & Switzerland,

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

Where did you get this figure of 100,000 Wagner deaths?

Joe Biden in Hiroshima yesterday.

The true number is about 40k Ukrainians and NATO mercenaries killed and about 6000 Wagner and Russian army. One of those was a former deputy minister who was jailed for accepting bribes but died a Russian hero fighting N*zis and their NATO masters.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

And its thanks to the bravery of the Russians that the genocide of the people of Dombass has finally come to an end...

I have no 'dog' in this fight, but ABOVE, the WHY Russia is so committed. It's Serious National Commitment, no matter what Western Media Might say or hope.

Striking, many official EU condemnations of Ukraine regarding these people's treatment, Anti-Democratic, simply cleansed from the Internet.

If we want lasting real peace, can't deny other's beliefs & experience, for Russians, this is deadly serious & factual.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Though in this war, a single Russian death is a death too many. As for Nato goons and their "ultra-right" Ukrainian lackeys........ no mercy, which is exactly the policy of Wagner since a few weeks ago when Ukrainians executed a wounded Wagner fighter.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

So Zelensky just has the right to say whatever he wants that is offensive and vulgar both to his gracious host and his financial backers?

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

What is happening in Ukraine is not even close to what happened in Hiroshima.

right?

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Zelenskyy likens war-torn Ukraine to A-bombed Hiroshima

Very strange comparisons. He compares today's Ukraine and the Japanese Empire in 1945?

0 ( +3 / -3 )

If one looks at Gallop polling in Crimea pre-Feb 2022, really any year b/w 2015 and 2021, LARGE majorities preferred being Russian citizens vs. Ukrainian citizens.

You don't provide a link to these polls, so we can't comment on them. In any case, polling in Crimea between 2015-2021 would be highly unreliable, as it's occupied by Russia and many people have been living in fear. Any polling would reflect Putin's narrative, like the sham referendum.

There are so many over so many years, but it really gets at their native language, large majorities are Russian in Crimea and these 4 recent annexed areas, super strong correlations.

Official results: 97 percent of Crimea voters back joining Russia - CBS News

Gallop CBS, etc. professional, made it clear to all that there was no 'traceability', rather purely private. Nobody put their name on any paperwork etc.

Gets back to my point, if these people don't see themselves as Ukrainian, makes no sense to try and hold them hostage. Just kicking can down the road, this conflict will only continue etc.

As goal's durable lasting peace for all, as world's got BIGGER fish fry than this madness, tons of other problems.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

So Zelensky just has the right to say whatever he wants that is offensive and vulgar both to his gracious host and his financial backers?

Haven't heard anyone other than Putin fanboys with emotional issues (unable to come to terms with losing) complaining about what he said. Good luck with that.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Good luck with that.

already 3 Japanese people at work didn’t believe he said it until I showed them.

they are quite not happy now with his Hiroshima comparison.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Incredibly stupid and offensive for him to imply. And none of the Ganbare Nipponers are going to say anything about it, because they're too busy having safe political opinions.

Ultimately this war is going to go on for a long time until both sides come to the negotiating table, which the US doesn't want to them do, because it will inevitably mean concessions from the Western-backed side such as the reality Ukraine is never getting Crimea back.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

He sees a diorama of Hiroshima destroyed after the bomb.

He recalls how Russia has shredded and flattened city after city in his own country Ukraine during the last year.

C'mon peeps, what is he supposed to say?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

I just wonder how much debt will be on Ukraine after all this ends?

USA has a system to “lease” weapons in return for permanent military bases on such sovereign nations, forever.
