Given how many Japanese firms have already left Britain, this seems like shutting the door after the horses have emigrated to a different solar system.

Yeah, and Abe's policies have been stellar here, bwa ha ha ha ha.

You got enough problems here at home to attend to Abe-kun.

How many Japanese firms have left Britain?

Honda, Nissan, Panasonic, Sony, Toyota according to the Independent

The EU has a dwindling population and decreasing percentage of world trade. It is involved in approximately 25-30% of world trade. Why wouldn't the UK thrive in the other 75%? The UK is a net contributor to the EU, they can have our trade or the USA, China, India, Japan etc can benefit more! Only scaremongerers believe that the UK wont adapt and advance its economy and interdependence with other countries.

Wait, Abe wants to bring up 'good relations' starting in 1902?

Wasn't there this period, about a decade or so, where relations between Japan and the UK weren't so good?

I'm sure it happened, I remember reading it in history books... if I could just put my finger on that time period... somewhere in the 1930's or 40's I think...

Abe: "Look, yes, most of our companies have already relocated from Britain, but we expect you to cooperate and not put any tariffs on our imports into Britain. Well... yes... Boris, we will increase imports from there, but you must understand... well... I wouldn't call that 'unfair'. We ask everyone for similar exceptions for Japan, so that seems pretty fair to me."

Abe said Japan wants to work toward an "ambitious" free trade agreement with Britain

...minimizing the impact on business activities of Japanese companies

Surely a conflict here. Or bad journalism.

Yes, for about 4 years. Out something like 117 years since the Anglo-Japanese Alliance ws signed in 1902.

The UK trades and does business with many countries. Japan is just one them.

After a few telephone calls, Honda, Nissan, Panasonic, Sony, Toyota are all still operating in the UK.

Seems Abe is trying the old "fear factor tactic" and the independent is "fake news".

Mind you, if Nissan left, that would be no bad thing. Who would want to do business with Nissan anymore? (an Anglo-japanese Alliance expects intretity from the Anglo's. Japanese law is not "up to scratch").

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe spoke by phone on Saturday with his British counterpart Boris Johnson, asking him to realize the United Kingdom's exit from the European Union by minimizing the impact on business activities of Japanese companie

Globalist nonsense right there. Why should it have an impact on two economies that are not part of the EU empire? The two countries can make trade deals without Merkels and Maraconi bureaucrats getting involved.

Why should it have an impact on two economies that are not part of the EU empire?

Probably because Japanese car companies manufacture cars in the UK mainly for export to EU countries.

By the way, the EU is not an empire. The UK might be seen as one.

The EU has failed. Wealthy nations has stripped poorer nations of thier independence and dignity as thier banks has loaned and stolen the futures of generations of people from Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, etc.

Today Poland, Hungry and others refuse to follow laws that the EU cannot enforce as it relates to thier sovereign judicial systems. And unfortunately with the weakening of NATO perhaps the Europeans will once again... OMG, I can't finish my thought.

What policies are you talking about? Japan is actually doing rather well compared to Britain in most areas. I speak as someone who is a resident of both Japan and the UK.
