Abe denounces Saudi oil attacks, refrains from singling out Iran in speech at U.N.

This is actually very mature and should be praised. A country shouldn’t be blamed without concrete proofs. I don’t think the world in its current situation can handle “we are sorry for wrong intelligence about WMDs” moment.

It is if you actually believe that's what they are doing... more than a week after the fact. Truth is, Japan until recently was granted a waiver on US sanctions for countries buying oil from Iran, and bought 15.3 million barrels from Iran between January and March before the waiver expired, and Japan is still seeking exemption. So, it may well be simply, especially given the laptop Abe is to Trump, that they don't want to poop in one place where they eat, but instead avoid something 'regrettable' by trying to spread that poop over the two parties at once, playing both fields.

"It is my own unchanging role to call on Iran as a major power to take actions that are grounded in the wisdom derived from its rich history," the prime minister said.

Wisely said, PM Abe, wisely said. Japan has a strong history of good relations with Iran. There is no hatred of the Iranian culture, regime or Islam, as there is in the USA and The West. Only mutual respect. Why point fingers at Iran, when there is no proof they had anything to do with any so-called "attacks". I wish other nations in the West could act in the same way as Japan and PM Abe.

Wise Abe!

There is no proof that Iran set it all up so the Houtis could take credit and maybe peace in Yemen could result. No proof until a whistleblower appears.

Until then, Abe seems to have taken a diplomatic and statesman-like track.

When was the US ever sorry for invading Iraq over the WMD that never existed? Gulf of Tokin? Just man up and say we’re invading because we eat to. The apologies were given by the Washington Post for underplaying WMD skepticism. The US, France, Russia, India and many others have weapons of mass destruction, should we invade them all?

Abe not naming the country should be praised, but Japan needs the oil is the reality.

Why denounce attacks against Saudi oil refineries, but not the killing of more than 100,000 Yemeni civilians due to the Saudi attacks on that country?

Japan hosted the G20 summit this year in Osaka where Abe managed to secure a commitment from his counterparts, including Trump, to "free, fair and non-discriminatory" trade.

Utter nonsense.

Because oil is more important than the lifes of yemeni civilians.

Abe doesn't need to be building rapport with Trump personally. I'm glad he didn't blame Iran of oil refinery attack in Saudi. Yet Japan doesn't have to commit to denuclealization of North Korea. Good idea to meet with Kim face-to-face and build a ra]org with him. That's how nuclear weapons irrelevant. Stop listening to the US especially the current admin. Japan should use the wisdom of it's rich history, too.

Abe is such a sycophant

Abe knows the history where Japan has spent the whole nation power in Iran to endevor projects of structural oil plants and it was successful by several years. Why Japan has to abandon and leave Iran? I think it's one side story still going on...

I'll drink to that. Great speech Prime minister Abe.

'Stop listening to the US'

'There is no proof that Iran set it all up'

'Why point fingers at Iran, when there is no proof they had anything to do with any so-called "attacks".'

Funny that everyone seems to think only the US believes Iran is to blame...

'European officials acknowledged they shared information in reaching their own separate conclusions on Iran’s involvement but didn’t provide details.'

I don't agree with many things that Abe does, but this time it's the right decision in my opinion.

Why don't Americans show data from their air defense radars? If rockets and drones launched Iran. Then how were they not spotted when they flew through the Persian Gulf?

I am not a great fan of Mr. Abe, but he seems the only one who applies basic legal standards that western countries always talk about.

This whole Iran blaming reminds me too much on the “proven” (according to the US and the UK governments) claims about Saddam Hussein’s weapon of mass destruction.
