Hope his priority is not changing constitution.

Much of the jobs created are low wage, part-time jobs. Every year it's the same thing. He promises to do the economic equivalent of pulling a rabbit out of the hat only to fall very short every time. How many mulligans will Abenomics get before it's tossed in the ash heap where it belongs?

He will be elected next year. His rate is up again. It seems he will be longest served premier in Japan upper than his granduncle who went upper than another Yamaguchi prefecture premier long time ago's.

His legacy ::::: Abenomics. Is there anyone else who had a unique economic theory created while he was prime minister? It did not. work well but he a politician created.
fxgai
What is that legacy, exactly? The only remotely notable policy reform has been in corporate governance.
When he came in claiming he’d drill through bedrock regulations in the face of vested interests, I expected more... something at least...
What I personally feel is that it is possible to prosper while living in Japan, while the place stagnates and flounders along.
If Abe had reformed the labour market to fix the duality of it, as well as various other reforms, all residents of Japan might be able to say they are now better off.

@Bertie: This is my guess. I think. Abe is preparing to retire after his this term. So, he wants his Abenomic as his legacy left intact. My another guess is Kono will succeeds him. LDP is not going to expel foreigners in Japan. Trump will advise, though. I really think Abe is planning to retire.

Dude just bring the yen back to its value in 2011 and let us manage our financials by ourselves.

JeffLee: " And infrastructure and housing are continuously improving, as opposed to worsening, compared to many other developed countries."
When was the last time you lived at home.... without living at the in-laws here and with the rose-tinted glasses off? Now, do tell us again how superior Tokyo is for people looking for affordable housing, my friend.
smithinjapan
Yeah, that took all of 24 hours, as I said it would, after he realized his TRUE goal of changing the Consitution is not the focus of the people.
JeffLee
Well, it happened during his tenure. I have 10 years worth of corporate contributions, which are now accessible since this reform.
in my home country Canada, the big issue is "affordability." Middle class households are finding it harder, if not impossible, to purchase a detached house near their work. Tokyo, by contrast, is perhaps the world's most affordable capital in the developed world. And infrastructure and housing are continuously improving, as opposed to worsening, compared to many other developed countries.

Well, I'm happy for you, but my situation hasn't changed. Just about the only thing that I have finally benefitted from is the fact that I no longer have to pay 25 years just to get the minimum amount of the pension. Although I don't even know whether that was down to our Dear Leader.
gogogo
You changed the law to stay in power, called an election during the trumped up NK situation and have done nothing for the economy.
JeffLee
My own financial situation and outlook are considerably better now than 4 years ago. That's true with most of my friends. I think a lot of people on this thread have short memories.

I'm sorry, but him rolling down the sand on the golf course while Trump walked away just about sums up his achievements.
fxgai
There hasn’t been much priority placed on the economy at all, or if there has then the policies have been found wanting.
Abe isn’t interested in upsetting the vested interests for the sake of the economy, because his true priority lies elsewhere and that’s where he wishes to spend his political capital.

In the last 5 years I haven't seen a pay rise and if the economy is getting better then why aren't the millions of childbearing women having kids?
Wakarimasen
Debt fuelled misspending with no real results. 5 more years of this nonsense just what is needed.

WHAT ECONOMIC RECOVERY?
Too right it's unperceived by the masses. You have to have rose coloured glasses to see any recovery. And with the MASSIVE handout to Trump, it's going to get tighter.

My ass your fiscal policy! You’ll dig Japan’s grave filled with debt from top to toe!
Your extensive spending on defense, only serves as a catalyst for the 280% of GDP Japan has in debt!
