Abe names replacements for trade, justice ministers

Within hours, Abe named replacements, choosing Yoichi Miyazawa, 64, a former finance ministry official as trade minister. Miyazawa, from Hiroshima, served as a secretary years ago to his uncle, former Prime Minister Kiichi Miyazawa.

And so the revolving door of former ministery officials with family connections to former PM's simply continues. The only difference is he's a man. And what exactly are is qualifications, other than the above, to make people believe he can handle the critical task of re-starting the nukes?

If you ask me, the women didn't fail in their positions. Remember it was Abe who put them there, so, I would have to question his ability to lead his party. His decision making skills are obviously not up to par when it goes to appoint people into a position.

In 2007, Kamikawa was Minister of State for Gender Equality and Social Affairs for Abe. And in 2007, Kamikawa said she wants to find out why birthrates are dropping and improve the situation for working women, AND she established a panel to look into this... Ha! She was replaced by rising star Obuchi in 2008! So much for Kamikawa and her bold statements.

Cut to today, Obuchi resigns and is replaced by Kamikawa! Is this a favor to Kamikawa for sacking her after one year in his first administration? Either way, it's an Abe chronie being appointed to a position they're not suited for based on their credentials! Kamikawa: A former researcher for Mitsubishi, Director of Women's Affairs, Minister of Gender Equality, and a masters from Harvard in Public Administration! A Minister of Justice is responsible for the judicial system, correctional services, household, property and corporate registrations.

What experience does she have in this?

Both of them graduated Havard. About the lady, she used to be a Govt office of Senator Max Pokus (spell>) that is different than one of lady minister did as unpaid volunteer. She was boss, Then she later was CEO of a research organization (forgot name) It was a long time ago. Then she went back to Japan. lost election, won but LDP refused tp accept her as a member, She was in USA too long that she does not get praised as younhest but at least she speaks American English fluently. Good choice. About Miyazawa, he had to toil and toil. In his case, we can't tell he got a job with nepotism the way he had to work up.

Isn;t it Abe replaced Obuchi with Miyazawa. Marsushima was replaced by Kamikawa. I remember gitls who got Japanese Govt scholarship to study in oversea had to declare they never will Marry. for a long time. I dpn't know if she came with Govt scholarshio or Mitsubishi paid/ But she went to Harvard. Globerig the name of Research Organization she became CEO in USA. Despite of her education and work experience, she is a lot Japanese style conservative than Obuchi. Those three Yasumuni visited Ministers are no match and so they will get their witch hunt now But she believe in friendshlp with China and Korea.

@Fighting: Both are eager to improve relationship with S Korea. Both are friendly with business entities. Kamiyama has been keen with Mitsubishi movement so she knows Mitsubishi Solar Energy business and new Solar Panel Plants (Vertical not Rooftop) and so I doubt she will go on out of dated nuclear power plant. Miyazawa is aware of Mitsui investing in NY Power energy system so I doubt he will suport out-of-dated nuclear power plant system. Obuchi signed LNG deal with Alaska and so sooner or later Abe has to abandon these obsolete nuclear pkants. They are conservative but when technology comes, they are progressive like American Harvard educated people.

@fIGHTING-SANl Forgot to mention. Both are against TPP. Boyj work with China in many situations. yhrn they are concerned of Japan low on birth rate. Both are active in some kind of Shinto associations. Kyocera is also promoting Solar Energy related equipments in Calif.

Kamikawa also has a Harvard MPA, and about two decades worth of policy experience relevant to the portfolio. Plus private sector work.

Everybody goes to Univ now. But there was time when public Univ did not accept girls with all sort of excuse such as she walks like a girl and so she will disturb boys study. I think Kamikawa time was still that time. Todai? That was boys Univ then. Gen Mac tried to make Univ accept girls. Girls either go to expensive private U or Girls college if any in your Prefecture. Then, out to So. Calif. But brainy girls like her went to cold place Harvard, etc. She is promoting Gender equality and also concerned with low birth rate in Japan. She worked in USA so she knows USA does not have Japanese style gender discrimination in work place. So, this is one of reason Abe chose her?

Found more about Kamiyama She agreed to check Constitution in 2004. But i she is against reinterpretaion. I've also notice over the years that smithinjapan has yet to give his list of so-called qualifications to become a lawmaker or a minister while simply just repeating "unqualified".

@nigelboy: Harvard Grad of Japanese is easy. If you have one or more of your relative graduated from arvard, they receive annua; alumini books. Of cause You have to be nosy to check Japanese names. Not too many anyway. Not too many JapanesHe names. Kawakami US life was easy, You can visit US Seneators; office of your state and request on their database. Secondly, in order to be accepted by the Ministry of Finance, the perquisite is to pass the 国家公務試験一種 which has a pass rate in the single digit percentile. Not only pass, in order to be even thinking about applying there, you need to attain a high score. Finally, he received his degree while he was working at the ministry. So yeah. His Harvard degree is one of easiest hurdles. So your post is absolutely false.

Miyazawa was Eounin for a few years before he finally went To Dai LLB courses.

jerseyboy: Exactly! The first thing I expected when I saw the new names was family connections, the second was that formerly they were in a position that had NOTHING to do with their current one. I got both, just not in the right order, for Miyazawa. The latter is just someone who seems unqualified altogether and another choice based simply on the fact that she's a woman. What are their qualifications besides Miyazawa having an uncle who was PM? I mean, they don't even try to HIDE the fact that that is the sole reason they are chosen any more.
