“The Liberal Democratic Party has changed,” he told a news conference Tuesday. “We are not the party we once were.”

??? then, voters should have been told before election not after, they have wrongly voted for 'conservative' Liberal Democratic Party :) Wait for a week and we'll see same true colors of Original LDP party !

All this is right now is talk. Abe is saying what he thinks the people want to hear, the proof is in the proverbial pudding.

There is nothing to get excited about until he actually DOES something.

Yubaru. He won't DO anything.

Talk... Talk... Talk... That is all that Abe is good for!!! He says that his conservative party will pursue fresh policies to tackle the nation’s chronic economic woes and bolster its sagging influence on the international stage.

How will he do that??? By starting up all of the reactors in Japan and contaminating all of the people that live in Japan with radiation???

Everyone here, I bet in a few months time, Abe will resign due to illness and stress. If you don`t believe me, you just watch and see.

This comment is no off topic, derogatory or anything else. It is to the point.

Seems like everyone that leaves a comment on Japantoday.com leaves comments that is not strait forward and to the point.

I guess speaking the truth about something is not a good thing in Japan. Seems like the people in Japan, both Japanese and Gaijin loves to hear lies and not the truth.

It`s so sad that not many people in Japan likes to face the truth about things and work towards improving situations. They all rather gossip and tell lies about each other.

Abe got the BOJ on board for his inflation target plan which is 20 years too late IMO...

In case you were looking for fresh policies.

There is a brand of cream called MEGMILK フレッシュ that tries to announce that it is "Fresh" on the package, when actually it is a blended chemical mix using some actual cream. Real fresh cream need not declare itself. The only thing fresh about Abe is the way he acted with voters when he puffed up his chest about Korea and China, only now to send envoys to patch up relations so his corporate buddies can get back to business, and the way he fooled rural voters into believing the LDP would protect the agricultural sector and not join the TPP. Fresh, indeed.

@warispeace: The following was your response to growing nationalism in Japan. You praised those who wished to live peacefully with neighbouring countries.

The positive side is it helps double-down the initiative of a larger segment of the public who believe that loving or at least tolerating your neighbour or neighbouring country is the only long-term way to live in peace and with peace of mind.

And this is your post from above:

only now to send envoys to patch up relations so his corporate buddies can get back to business

You are now complaining and jeering at Abe sending envoys to try and improve the relationship between neighbouring countries. Better relations means better trade.

You can't have it both ways.

This government needs to be firm with China. It's good to build a strong relationship with the USA too. Japan needs to be a bigger player on the world stage. I like Shigeru Ishiba's call for factions to contribute policies, and not to disrupt the government by exploiting their numbers for their own gain.

"Besides generous promises to boost public-works spending - by as much as 10 trillion yen ($119 billion), " This is a fresh policy that has been repeated to no effect for decades. Well, I should be corrected. One of the effects is the extremely dangerous, grossly overbuilt, ridiculously subsidised Japanese nuclear power industry. Another is collapsing highway tunnels as new roads to nowhere are relentlessly built.
