"I will meet with Mr Kim without preconditions and am determined to work towards an early resolution through sober analysis and by not missing any chances," Abe said in the meeting.

"Sober analysis?" "not missing any chances?" The way Abe has been handling this issue is so very much like the way he handles the economy here. He talks a hell of a lot, but nothing of substance ever gets accomplished!

is there an election soon?

What’s stopping Abe?

Instead of talking about it he should be doing it!

Resolve for a talk ? What kind of PM is that ?

This is a part of Japanese culture. You need to be more culturally sensitive.

The kind that is democratically elected, unlike the Chinese leaders.

Thats funny!

Being culturally sensitive to ineptitude?

Basically impossible...

I was just waiting for something like this. Abe knew he was getting blasted for his inaction about the crisis in Chiba, so what does he do, fall back on his favorite go to, the abductees. He keeps saying the same thing, but nothing ever gets done. Kim will swat him away like the small gnat he is. Kim has bigger fish to fry with "the Donald" as Kim's target.

I got the sarcasm! These families have been hearing the same thing from Abe and other Japanese PM's for decades now, and after Soga and her family were reunited, it's always been talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk and more talk.

Just like the other issues that Abe doesnt want to deal with here, he would prefer it to be swept under the rug and forgotten.

Sad to say, but I believe those people are long gone.

I'm reiterating again. I've always known what Japan wants from NK. I've never known what NK wants from Japan. Though I suspect, as well as expect, the tired lie of " They want aid, which we'll not give until they bring back the abductees". Abe, be truthful to the people of Japan and the world. If NK is demanding compensations and or apology etc just say so,we need to know.

What number vow is this to resolve the issue? 48? Is there an election coming up?

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Monday he remains committed to holding talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un without preconditions to .......

In the real world, any meeting whether it be big or small, works on an agenda. The meeting then runs through the agenda.

Meetings don't work on demands.

Yeah, this is great to hear and all. But as other commenters have said, we need more action and less talk. I mean, does anybody know if Abe’s even really moving to hold a meeting with Kim or something?

Anyone who is down on Koreans for wanting Japanese companies to pay for the slave labor they endured sure better be down on Japanese politicians for beating this dead horse again. I would not say that the 1965 treaty protected companies at all, but the abductee issue was resolved and people were returned. Its over and bringing it up again is just sheer laziness and distraction.
