What Abe says is correct. The last 25 years of diplomatic solutions has failed. And what Trump says is correct. Even those who think he's a moron have to admit this. The risk though for Abe is that Trump might change his position in mid-course with his usual flip flopping. He doesn't seem to do well working in synch with those on his side. And he can't seem to work at all with those who aren't.

Behind to watch. No intention to assist Trump.

Diplomacy has not failed with N. Korea; the USA has failed dipomacy.

NK has broken every agreement they've reached diplomatically. And now they repeat that their nuclear and missile programs are "not negotiable". Can you give an example of where "diplomacy has not failed"?

There is never a method to anything that Trump does or says. It's all the attention-getting behavior of a juvenile, exactly the opposite of what diplomacy requires.

Granted the problem is difficult, but you think an Asian nuclear war will succeed?

Why automatically "nuclear"?

Certainly, Trump's threats of a war have succeeded in making the nukes progress a lot faster. Is that a success?

The North Korean nuclear weapons program has been going on for over 25 years. Previous administrations have tried to stop it with diplomacy. You think that North Korea approaching it's goal now has anything to do with who is in the oval office? You actually think that North Korea would not be pursuing nuclear capability if we had a President Hillary Clinton?

You do know that China and Russia won't be on the side of the USA, don't you?

And you do know that unlike 1950, both China and Russia recognize North Korea as an abject failure and more a liability than an asset?

OssanAmerica: "NK has broken every agreement they've reached diplomatically."

In part derailed because of Japan also breaking its agreements and turning the six-nation talks and UN visits into a foreign to demonize the nation over the abduction issue so that Japanese right-wing politicians can score points at home. And let's not forget North Korea wouldn't even exist without Japan, so it is just as to blame as the north.

Now, as usual, Abe is hiding behind the US and blaring the trumpets pre-election. You say it's a danger if Trump shifts direction mid-course, but why? if Abe is so "correct" as you say?

"The North Korean nuclear weapons program has been going on for over 25 years. Previous administrations have tried to stop it with diplomacy."

And it was working until bush declared NK part of the "Axis of evil", after which NK kicked out regulators and began work again, as well as with hard-liners in Japan imposing sanctions after promising to lift them, etc.

You seem to think negotiation and diplomacy are a one-way street where one nation has to do everything the others TELL them with, and abide by threats. That's not diplomacy, my friend.

And as a quick land grab if things deteriorate, and a chance to expand their own nations' interests. You think Honest Abe and the US will sigh with relief with China or Russia taking over the land, when Abe has spent his entire career trying to alienate the former, and gets pushed around constantly by the latter? Neither country will allow the US or its interests to destroy NK and then take over the region to boot, IF they allow the former.
