Abe would be better off asking China for one of its "new" islands in the South China Sea, than getting Putin to agree to hand the Northern Territories back to Japan. Its never going to happen!

From Putin's point of view, not having a formal Peace Treaty only empowers his negotiating position as he can continually use the island as a bargaining chip to his own advantage every time he wants something from Japan.

@Alex you are right. Last 22 years Japanese economy down, last 22 years Russia is up.

Agree with your comment Aly Rustom. Russia is playing Japan for a fool. Keep taking Japanese money and business. Make Abe go to Russia multiple times every year like a pet dog. In return Russia has to do nothing for Japan. The only thing I've seen on the table from Russia is a weak promise to let some old Japanese people who are about to die go and visit. It's a big joke and Japan is the one looking like a fool!

And I completely agree with your comment too Alex! Good post.

Abe has pledged to resolve the territorial dispute over a string of western Pacific islands, seized by Soviet troops at the end of World War Two,

Oh give it a rest Abe. We all know you are not going to solve this spat with Putin. He's a shrewd snake that could run circles around you and your whole party.
