Just so long as it's not another ploy by Kim to get aid for his country and then when things in North Korea get better, go back to the games that he and his father liked to play!

Kim's sudden visit to China in March was about this. China offered a helping hand to North Korea. A very thoughtful move of China.

Interesting how so many people are falling for this.

Again, Kim said absolutely nothing about getting rid of the nuclear weapons and short/long range missiles in his arsenal, nor did he mention anything about allowing inspections by outside weapons inspectors.

All he said was that testing of these weapons was no longer needed because the success of the weapons were verified. That's it. In other words, Kim stopping weapons testing means absolutely nothing in terms of 'progress' or altruistic North Korean intentions.

Yet, people out there are so eager for peace and conciliation, that they deliberately overlook what Kim actually stated and making it out to be way more than it actually is or deserves to be.

The plutonium will melt the thaw.

The train had already departed and already too late for Abe to make any significant contributions regarding North Korea.

Just like his handling of the American occupation of Okinawa, Shinzo always follows what the Amerikans says rather than listen to his own Ryukyuan brethrens.

Looking less and less likely by the day that NK will be giving up their nukes. I assume the Chinese also gave them that advice on Kim’s recent secret trip to Beijing.

No issue, these sanctions forced him to the table in the first place, if these talks fail NK will suffer egregiously and international opinion will be for more tightening.

Wow, imagine if Kim really were to do what USA and SK wanted. Abe will have to find another reason to continue with his fearmongering. Back to Russia or China full-time?

North Korea's announcement Saturday that it would freeze nuclear and missile tests and shut down its main nuclear test site.

then this;

Looking less and less likely by the day that NK will be giving up their nukes.

God forbid President Trump should be congratulated with anything....

It appears that Japan has been taken aback by a series of new moves by North Korea since its announcement to join the Olympics. Kim's unexpectedly positive rapid-fire announcements are putting Abe and co. on the back foot.

Doesn’t Abby have his own scandals to worry about

North Korea isn't saying that they're abandoning their goal of developing nuclear weapons... they're saying they've already achieved their goal of developing nuclear weapons and have no need for further testing.

wow. Again, there are so many here fueled with such out of control hatred for President Trump, they'd rather chew tinfoil than see peace on the Korean Peninsula with his name attached.

What does Trump have anything to do with this?

All one has to do is to take a look at the history of deals with North Korea to see that it is littered with failure. Bill Clinton tried in 1994, Bush in 2005 and 2007, and Obama in 2012. Promises of food and aid in exchange for NK allowing inspectors and disabling nuclear facilities and whatnot. All eventually failed as NK showed its true colors in resuming weapons development and testing.

What makes this time any different? Kim mentioned absolutely nothing about dismantling his weapons or allowing in inspectors. He did all the tests needed to ensure his weapons worked (this is a reason why we saw such a huge amount of weapons testing conducted by NK the past few years, including one which almost destroyed a mountain).

oldman -

What makes this time any different?

We have a President with backbone. States like NK respect one thing and one thing only; power and the willingness to use it.

Yes, its NK and it might work out or it might not, but these are the most positive signs to come out of NK in our lifetimes.

If Obama were doing this, the media lapdogs would be falling over themselves in kissing his ass.

President Trump? Sheer panic by the constantly outraged that they'll have to congratulate him
