runs a kindergarten promoting patriotism.

haha patriotism? more like fascist propaganda and right wing brainwashing, holy white washing the truth. In reality I do not think Abe directly helped them get the land price but SOMEONE did. And Abe and his wife for certain know the right-wing teachings of this school when they allowed them to use the Abe name to promote propaganda and get more students.

As much as we all probably hope this does affect him, we all know it won't.

PM Abe .... doing the same like everybody who got something to hide:

deny, refuse to answer, deny again, and continue like this until .....

I am still waiting for those "dirt-digging" journalists to come up with something.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.... Abe you have been caught with your hand in the cookie jar.

6 ( +10 / -4 )

although the story is here on JT, watch the Japanese news tonight. I have been watching every night and they barely mention Abe's name. It seems they are protecting him. IDK WHy

6 ( +9 / -3 )

@ Dango Bong

" It seems they are protecting him. IDK WHy" cos the press here are largely controlled, and fear going against their dear leader.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

The LDP is digging itself in a hole. They have to allow the school operator to be questioned in parliament otherwise this mistrust will only grow deeper. This issue is far from over

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Japan could not eradicate pre-war fascism that caused War.

Japanese Racists who support "patriotic education", They want Conspiracy Law,Secrecy Law,Expansion of Armament,Restart of Nuclear Plants. and They hate Individual freedom,Human Rights, freedom of Expression and Pacifism Constitution.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Media can not investigate, government can not investigate because all those involved wear a blue badge on their lapel NIPPON KAIGI it's the actual unelected government. They have a web site that actually is full of hate speech and a bizarre take on proven history. Check it out and squirm as the stupidity amazes you.

13 ( +14 / -1 )

Oh, so what if his popularity is falling! There will still be 45% of the population who will not get off their sofas and vote, thus ensuring the right-wing nationalistic LDP will remain in power, as they have for over 70 years, except for a few brief stints by quickly licked opposition party scapegoats.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Good chance for the opposition, especially when Dear Leader is seeking a third term to see his unpopular policies pushed through. Don't let this get out of the spotlight, people! And keep Abe's name in it!

10 ( +12 / -2 )

Abe and trumpy have much in common! Questionable practices, scandal and GOLF!

Kagoike, having withdrawn the application for certification of the elementary school, is expected to give a press conference, starting momentarily at 5:30.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Absolutely nothings going to happen. If the screws prove too tight, then the noise about the rocks in the middle of nowhere will simply be raised leading to an improvement in the polls. Ridiculous!! If only South Korean attitude towards leadership accountability could be emulated here... I guess when pigs learn to solve quadratic equations!!

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Yasunori Kagoike is not remaining on the sinking ship alone, he dragging Defense Minister Tomomi Inada along to stand beside him............. Abe san has is made it to safety aboard one of the lifeboats.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I wrote it before: Abe will be gone by October. You cannot sell land at 10 percent of its value during these crappy economic times and you cannot enrich yourself at the public's expense while the public is economically suffering. This is the one sin I believe the Japanese will not tolerate. Not surprised Abe doesn't get this; he's a spoiled rich kid who never did a real day's work in his life. He'll try to stay---he thinks the Prime Minister position is his birthright---and that will enrage people even more.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

This might not be the last word on the subject if Yasunori Kagoike has his way....

Moritomo Gakuen head to resign, withdraw controversial school application....

In any other country the media would be all over this. When Japan lost the war One thing that should of been put in place that was to made the first language English. Then the mass would been taught history correctly and would not have a problem with Japanese fassist.

No sooner has Abe san distanced himself from this scandal, up pops Defense Minister Tomomi Inada, to drag the cabinet back in. Tomomi Inada seem impervious to the meaning behind discretion being the better part of valour.

Defense minister criticized for supporting nationalistic 1890 rescript....

NHK reported on this scandal last night for ten minutes.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Then people question why Chinese & Koreans want more I'm sorries. Who believes these guys when they say I'm sorry? They're not. Simple. The Abes are up to their neck with this Nippon Kaigi double talk. With what face can they go to their neighboring countries & look at them in their eyes and say I'm sorry? It's always words like 'lamentable' or unfortunate or some escapist jargon. Whatever the responses, they will have only brought it on themselves.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Any parents who let their kids go to these 2 lunatics' school are nuts.

The wife right outside taking pictures, which is an overt threat to release violence on government investigators.

Every country and society has their Nippon Kaigi by another name, and without exception. Some choose to conceal themselves in the background, then by stealth fan the flames of discontent in societies that value pacifism and democracy.

Every country and society has their Nippon Kaigi by another name, and without exception. Some choose to conceal themselves in the background, then by stealth fan the flames of discontent in societies that value pacifism and democracy.

At best, gross misunderstanding. At worst, an apologist's take on pure racism and historical revisionism.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

So how would you describe the Government of China then? The bastion of democracy?, or perhaps The Russian Federation, or France Front National, Germany's far-Right AfD party, Poland's conservative Law and Justice party, or Golden Dawn Greece, in Europe alone there are over sixty ultra nationalist far right parties.

What is your home country Clamenza?

You point the finger at Japanese Government , I point the finger also however Japan has a pacifist constitution. Can the Government of your country boast the same. I strongly and openly criticize the Government of Japan where I see fit, as a Passport holder and as a tax payer.

Don't pretend for one moment you actually know what an apologist looks like, your fumbling guesses are hopeless wide of the mark. Also Clemenza at no time did Junko Kagoike threaten the violence you implied, verbal intimidation allegedly, actual physical harm no.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

About a hal of supporters no longer support him. Abe has tomclear land scandal.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Also Clemenza at no time did Junko Kagoike threaten the violence you implied, verbal intimidation allegedly, actual physical harm no.

Really? So a woman who has ties to Nippon Kaigi and their nationalist thugs was just taking some snaps for her photo album eh?

No, itsonlyrockandroll, my country is not perfect. Not by a long shot. But the corruption is nowhere as ingrained as it is here in Japan. And don't fool yourself, In no other western country will you face violence like you will here in Japan for stepping on the wrong shoes or saying the wrong thing. Just ask former politicians who have dared to criticize the former emperor.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Why not? The LDP by and large piggybacks on the back of the populace and looks down on us, so in that context, his actions are perfectly justifiable.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

an online survey by Japan’s Nikkei business daily found that Abe’s support fell to 36.1% in a survey conducted from March 4 to 7 from 63.7% in the previous week.

This is the best news I've heard in quite a while.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

70.8% said they would like the school principal and other relevant people to answer questions on the issue before parliament as opposition parties have demanded, a request that Abe’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has so far refused.

So the LDP is refusing to do what over 70% of the electorate wants? If this isn't a wake-up call I don't know what is.

Up to now, there haven’t been any scandals in which Abe was the main actor

Huh? Where have you been the last couple of weeks? On a desert island?

This is the best news I've heard in quite a while.

Gives us hope, doesn't it?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

You point the finger at Japanese Government , I point the finger also however Japan has a pacifist constitution. Can the Government of your country boast the same

itsonlyrockandroll - what does a pacifist constitution have to do with domestic groups that physically intimidate and sometime assassinate its own people??

1 ( +2 / -1 )

It would be a pointless exercise to argue that Junko Kagoike's intention was not to impede officials in the progress of carrying out an inspection to determine the eligibility to open a new elementary school operated by the Moritomo Gakuen. I have stated my opinion clearly in another thread, stating it would have been appropriate that both Junko and Husband Yasunori Kagoike been arrested and held in custody pending a judicial lead public inquiry into all the circumstances and allegations.

Clamenza, I have no knowledge of your experiences relating to your life spent in Japan, I am assuming you reside here. Least of all the trials and tribulations or hurdles you overcame. Clearly it has not been plain sailing. The constitution has nothing to do with uneducated political groups parading around in black vans, if that is what you are referring too. I don't why you have linked the two together, or in what context.

I have over 125 family members spread over Osaka, Kobe, Tokushima, Kochi, and Tosa, they all have one thing in common, that has nothing to do with ultra right wing nationalism, getting on with their lives in peace. I have also 139 family members in the UK, the courtesy of Japanese Mother and English Father. Both families once has little time for each other, they have managed to overcome the past and move on.

The fact that Abe's san support has taken a dive, is confirmation enough that the deep seated political ideology behind ultra nationalism in Japan is in its final stage death throes before rigor mortis sets in.

Seventy years of political, economic, technological change has taken its toll on past perception of power. More so since 2008/9. After Hiroshima and Nagasaki, war has been replaced by the unrelenting globalization of power economics, and the ability to calculate/control currency and foreign exchange rates.

Who controls the political power in Japan, will the party with the ability to bring economic stability and wealth, solve depopulation, deliver reform to healthcare system, provide child day-care, and future pensions for the elderly. That will never come from any past ideology promoted by the Japan conference.

@ itsonlyrockandroll actually, it has been clear sailing. I live and work here and have never had any problems doing so. have not once had an personal issues with the law or government. Are you suggesting that a foreigner who dares criticize the Japanese government and its ingrained corruption should leave? I pay taxes, too

I have over 125 family members spread over Osaka, Kobe, Tokushima, Kochi, and Tosa, they all have one thing in common, that has nothing to do with ultra right wing nationalism, getting on with their lives in peace. Wonderful! Fantastic! I once had an uncle who after a few beers and a dare would streak around his house at night. He has as much relevance to the subject of Japanese corruption and right wind groups as all your 264 family members. None.

The fact that Abe's san support has taken a dive, is confirmation enough that the deep seated political ideology behind ultra nationalism in Japan is in its final stage death throes before rigor mortis sets in.

You've been here how long and you actually believe that? Did the right wing nationalists disappear after Hasimoto left? After Mori? After Aso? indeed, after Abe wussed out his first time at bat?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

clamenza, You view yourself as a foreigner, a Gaijin, your choice of words. And a Gaijin that feels the need to comply or else. I guess that card foreigners have to carry and the rigmarole of renewal every five years, creates a level of insecurity. I have always been of the opinion this measure should be relaxed after a period of time.

Do you believe that you have absolutely no right to criticize the way things are done here in Japan? You have a right, you criticize, and nobody is stopped you.. From my words you deduce a fear or threat of being pressured to leave. If you left surely it would be of your own free will.

I never implied you might have personal issues with the law or government, yet you thought that might have crossed my mind. Have regular contact with right wing nationalists, you seemed convinced these groups are everywhere, you appear to feel threatened by them. Yet you confirm life in Japan has been plain sailing. Isn't that contradictory?

Politicians are far from squeaky clean, there is a long list of Prime Minsters as well as Cabinet Ministers from governments past and present, stretching back generations that have been embroiled in corrupt practices all leading to resignations. You think people here don't know this, the subject has been in the media constantly. The reason why Abe san's support dived.

I won't attempt to illustrate the relevance, reasoning, logic or significance into family numbers I conveyed to you. I thought the diversity and insight into their experiences would explain how this might have shaped my politics. That fell on stony ground. As it is clear we both inhabit completely opposing social backgrounds. Essentially having very different views of life in our respective communities.

However, I will say the family here has never broached the right wing nationalist conspiracy theory you mention.Their vote helped remove the LDP from office in 2009, they will do the same again if the economy does not improve. I will for sure, I am not a foreigner, well not in the colloquial sense, clearly I still have lots to learn though, but I do get to vote.

You can have the last word, clamenza, we're never going agree if the lights on or off.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

No more bickering please.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Strange, I simply (and strongly) disagreed to your apologist's assertion that EVERY country has its version of Nippon Kaigi and threat of violence from such groups.

Now you make the very strange assumption that I lie awake at night, seeing them everywhere in a paranoid sweat.

Thats not an adult deduction. Indeed, my opinion seemed to land, in your own words, "on stony ground"
