Nothing much will ever be done about the disparity while it mainly favours residents in rural areas that also happen to be LDP "kingdoms."

It's the same in the US with greater weighting given to rural and less-populated areas - Electoral College in Presidential elections, number of representatives in the House, and every state getting two Senators, regardless of population. That doesn't even take into account the gerrymandering of Congressional districts, further giving one party an unfair advantage.

In the 2024 election, the disparity in the weight of votes between the most and least populated single-seat constituencies narrowed from 2.08-fold in the previous lower house election in 2021.

This is the equivalence of the US Electoral College - wherein the votes in lower-population states are weighted more than the votes in higher-population states

That's why the lower-population constituencies/states want to keep it
