Nice idea but its about as likely as a ban on machine guns.

"Let's see, I could talk about my economic policy and maybe draw criticism. Well, let's just damn nukes..."

That upcomming election must really bother him.

Is it too late....? From Chinese perspective of what happened 72 years ago?

Japan was willing to host a conference on global nuclear disarmament in 2010.

That was just a show of victimhood again! Japan was jealous and upset for herself wasnt allowed to own nuclear arsenals instead of speaking from the perspective of humanities.Obbressor was the shadown of 'oppressor'!

Nuclear weapon was good to world peace, that invention gave a fair and stability in east asia in the last 45 years! That was just not good for a single country in asia who has the ambitions to own nuclear weapon but couldnt!

Isn't Aso just calling on what Obama's been calling on for a while now? I've always respected Japan's stance on nuclear weapons -- minus dolts like Nakagawa -- and am glad they seem committed to sticking with article 9, but he's acting like this is all his idea.

"Japan and the EU also said there should be a concerted approach to tackling global warming and swine flu...."

...and the economy, and terrorism, and trade, and depopulation, and piracy.... all good, but what are you going to DO about it??

Good on Japan for being willing to host a seminar on it, but will that be like a Japanese study to study a study and then say, "We all agree that nuclear weapons are bad. Somehow the should be abolished"?

Japan should trash article 9 and consider going nuclear herself. That is far more likely to be achievable than getting the current powers like China to denuke or NKorea to give it up. Czar you need to relax.

The myth of article9 trashing was a hysteria for certain japanese politicans to appease their own voters to clam down their voters' paranoid and saving their jobs, it has been vowed again and again but never matters! The political risk and earthquaking results was unsustainable, like prescriptions of morphine to relieve pain!

I wish some Japanese people would get together and call for a Japanese effort to rid Japan of Aso and his Fascist LDP/Soka Gakkai dinosaur cronies.

As much as I really don't like Aso, I find a bit more credibility in the call to abolish nukes coming from a country that actually doesn't have them. What it really boils down to, is that this call is really only aimed at a handful of countries which actually possess or allegedly possess nuclear weapons, such as the U.S., U.K., China, Iran, India, and Pakistan.

realist - And the alternative to Aso and "his Fascist LDP/Soka Gakkai dinosaur cronies"? The totally incompetent DPJ?

Does anybody ever listen to Aso or take him seriously on any topic?
