Fact of the matter is, Australia is massively dependent on Chinese money and Chinese money and politics have infiltrated Australia. I think Australia will be the next to feel the squeeze.

China is massively dependent on the continued supply of many resources from Australia. Anything China does to damage Australia could backfire if Australia finds politicians with backbones.

It's hard enough for Australia to walk the tightrope between the competing agendas in the region,

We've been doing it pretty successfully for a couple of decades now. Still only recording a single quarterly negative GDP over 20 plus years. Best in world.

Relationship with U.S and Japan is as strong as ever and relationship with China is still reasonable. Its certainly a balancing act, but Australia is fortunate enough to be in a reasonable situation fiscally. People do however realize the country is far too reliant on China and thus the need for TPP and other bilateral agreements.

The Chinese always talk about how they are happy to see investment by other countries so I doubt it will be a problem.

It would be stupid for Australia to not get along with China, if it can get along with Japan and US.

Tightrope metaphor was first to come to my mind too.

Difficult to walk tightropes when heavy hamfisted naive denials of 3-way multilateral cooperative agreements are not a threat to one nation in particular, on Fox News's sibling Sky News, weigh down one side.

Next metaphor was 'backboned' politicians. Scarce most places. Australia and Steve Ciobo not exceptions.

But if it is trade and trade sanctions, Australia has more to lose short-term so would be sure to blink first. What was it about backbones?

Or you could say it would be stupid for China to not get along with Australia since Australia tries to get along with everyone.

Yes Australia would have more to lose in the short term but sometimes its better to take short term pain over long term agony.
