Any Rupert Murdoch run company calling something "cringe-worthy" is like the pot calling the kettle black. Their reputation in the media isn't exactly fair, and far from respectable.

OH puhleeeeeze - does JT have nothing else of substance to report !? ....And don't be so naive ... - State visits have their down moments - even the best of them ! . . Really!

I don't see anything wrong with this.

I wish more politicians were less scripted and preoccupied with their image.

They were just marking their territory - it's just a dominance issue that's all....

M3M3M3 I don't see anything wrong with this. I wish more politicians were less scripted and preoccupied with their image.

Perfectly stated!!!!!........

I thought Howard was a total embarrassment on the world stage but gaffe-prone Abbott takes the cake.

I like neither of them. But it's still just a photo. Neither of them are doing anything in bad taste. Thankfully both are wearing clothes.

@ wildwest - actually almost all RMs are still Aussie-made - certainly the ones the PMs are wearing. Pricey - they will run to 45,000 yen - but the best boots money can buy! Wear mine every day.

Is that a giant tire or is it James Packer?

Its an odd photo yes, "cringe-worthy?" ...hardly.

There's nothing wrong with the photo.

I'm surprised we don't have any "Looks like Abbott/Abe is happy, sad, angry, in love, suffering heatstroke (in Winter) or dead" comments yet.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

@wildwest: The boots are made in Australia, t-shirts, caps and other promo stuff is made in China.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I bet it was Abe's suggestion.

Silly stunt from cringeworthy Abbott - but a great advertisement for the worlds best boots, RM Williams. Love my pair!

@Wakarimasen

Is that a giant tire or is it James Packer?

It's his mouthguard.

'Hey Shinzo! I have a great idea!'

Tony The Abbot really does fill me with a terrible sense of foreboding.....

a stupid photo accompanied by many stupid comments. Why not talk about the substance of Mr. Abe's visit which are very positive for both countries instead of focusing on idiotic matter such as footwear and poses?

If that would have been shot in South Africa they could have been performing there Gumboot Dance.

I don't see anything wrong here.

but what can you expect when you put an Aussie and a salaryman together with a couple of bottles of Shiraz...?

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Standard procedure to work area, safety first is a gesture to show concern to any visitors in a work area...duhhh

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Heh, as if Abbott or Abe give a hoot if Rupert Murdoch-run news.com.au journalists say this photo is cringe-worthy.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Dunno, looks like the two are peeing on the tyre like...

I'll take order for RM Williams Boots if anyone want to own it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I would deem any photo with Abe as being cringeworthy. Here's me on holiday with a fascist.

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

Yeah, crap photo, but RM Williams make great boots! Maybe Abe can wear his in parliament to kick some serious butt!

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

The caption to this should be:

"Listen to this, too good to miss, ta-ta ta-ta ta TA - PARP"

Tony Abbott is a great Prime minister, much better than his predecessors, who brought the country to its knees and put thousands of people in poverty because of their Carbon Tax, which is pure Marxism. Of course, the Lefties all hate him, and anything he does or says. He is a hero to the rest of us outside of Australia, because of his policy of standing up to Climate Alarmist bullies and the entire Climate Change Cult.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Who seriously gives a flying F... people have too much time on there hands

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Abbot: Is that some rubber in your pocket or do you like me?

Abe: I am sorry to say my tire has gone flat.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

I thought Howard was a total embarrassment on the world stage but gaffe-prone Abbott takes the cake. Cringe is the word alright. Not sure uncle Rupert and his News cronies will be able to save his hide next time though.
