Search online and you will discover an excellent AP News article by reporter David Klepper, back from February 7th last year, entitled "Cyborgs, trolls and bots: A guide to online misinformation." VERY useful if you want to read comments and still hold down your breakfast.  Of particular note: bots and cyborgs. Last quote in the article is appropriate: "“The only solution,” Ferrara said, “is education.”"

It's all about critical thinking. Your opinions really do matter; to your friends and family, as well as your community. Don't surrender them too easily without a struggle.

I know nothing about Biden but Suga and Japan are already deeply dependent on Chinese deals. As are many countries. We have only to look at recent developments in Hong Kong to see what is coming. This could not be more serious. It is irrelevant whether you like Chinese people or not. Their gov intends to force their will onto any opposition.

The CCP is absolutely rotten to the core but that doesn't mean every Chinese person is a jerk.

Hate the government, not the citizens.

What about the Chinese citizens who are drunk on nationalism and support the CCP?

1 ( +3 / -2 )

There is no escape from the fact that the Government of China is a global humanitarian cataclysmic disaster.

Environmentally, choking the there city dwellers to death.

Descent is ruthlessly put down.

Any scent of democratic reform, defenestrated, under a tank or in a torture chamber.

Call out the bully, no quarter.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Too old politics, nothing better to talk about???

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Hey, China. Japan and the US ARE colluding against you. Any guesses as to why?

6 ( +7 / -1 )

The Commies can shut it. No one likes you, wants to deal with you, all or cares what you think.

Not quite. Who is the number one trading partner of Japan and Japan’s allies?

is coming to an end. It wasn't just be the US and Japan. It will become most democracies.

Ideally but in reality the EU just signed a major trade agreement with China that took seven years to negotiate. They’re not going to give up that market over what the US says.

Easier said than done! Even the very phone or PC you used for writing your comment has components made in China!

Its not just these. Australia has to have a buyer to export their coal, iron ore and gas. Stop coal and you’ll reduce pollution but that’s the same as taking money from Aussies.

However, the issue here is we have let greed and the hypocrisy of the elite to offshore jobs in the interest of cheaper (and often exploited) labor so profits could be increased. This is till going on today in the tech industry.

And offshore jobs include jobs which could be done in the US but not without risks such as studies on deadly viruses.

So what will Beijing do next unleashing the virus has worked well, can't imagine what's next

You can look it up but basically the US (National institute of Health) paid the Wuhan Institute of Virology $3.7 million twice to do research on the Coronavirus over the last two administrations. Trump reapproved the funding when he took office.

The US conducted the research as well but closed their lab in Maryland opting to pay for the research data out of safety concern.

and the worst genocide since WW2.

We live in an age where satellites can produce images of car license plates. The US has not offered evidence of genocide. Japan Today opts to use “policies” as in “particularly China's policies toward Turkic Muslims in the northwestern region of Xinjiang.” If it is genocide JT needs to call a spade a spade.

That helped guide Biden’s decision, announced this week, to pull U.S. troops out of Afghanistan and free the administration to focus more on East Asia.

That makes that key area of the Belt Road Initiative more vulnerable to Chinese geopolitical dominance. Pakistan and Iran are with China. The US is yielding here by withdrawing. Not everyone is with Biden on this.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

And, to top it all the Government of China have infected the entire planet. Without launching a missile.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

The Government of China have created a jaundiced political mistrust.

The appalling human rights violations, coupled with detainment and imprisonment, torture, to the leadership of Hong Kong democracy movement.

Is it any wonder or surprise that the Government of China would not develop a extreme paranoiac personality disorder?

US/Japan meet, and Beijing throws a diplomatic hissy fit.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Ah if only China would take their own advice ....

5 ( +8 / -3 )

More saber rattling and “warnings” are ways China exercises its form of deterrence. The hope is to bark loudly enough that other countries hesitate. This works for most countries but the US views it as nothing more than a cheap tactic to avoid escalation.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Japan and the United States should “take China’s concerns and demands seriously, avoid words and actions that interfere in China’s internal affairs and harm China’s interests.”

China has left no option since it believes all of the South China sea is "it's internal affair" and that Independent Taiwan "belongs to mainland China". China aims to be top of the Technology, military and trade tree being "China's interests", how can the world just ignore or go along with such madness just because China says so?

If you cant handle the heat, get out of the kitchen China. What the US and Japan are doing is in "their" interests. China should not interfere with Japan or the US or anyone else as they go about their entitled business. If China thinks competition is to much for it to bare then give up now. It is not a good look to see a large nations leaders all having a good sook.

Bashing the CCP is not the equivalent of bashing the Chinese people

Sadly, the bashers don't distinguish between the two, and imagine how Chinese people reading this site feel. It's certainly not going to improve China-Japan relations. Some of the views towards China on here border on fascist. That is absolutely disgusting.

The CCP is absolutely rotten to the core but that doesn't mean every Chinese person is a jerk.

Hate the government, not the citizens.

5 ( +11 / -6 )

They are the ones illegally occupying nations; crushing freedom demonstrations; committing ethnic genocide; threatening peaceful neighbors with annihilation

You talking about China or the States here?

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

And there are those who reside in free democratic countries but fight for the CCP on the internet.

There are loads of people here in Japan supporting Japan's dreadful government actions, too. I don't see Japan receiving the same level of condemnation.

-11 ( +2 / -13 )

There is far far more bashing Japan on this forum on a daily basis from both disillusioned expats and resident Wumaos and Vankers, than bashing China. Most of the China bashing is a response to the latter.

No way. I don't see you and Fighto! comment so much in any other sections of the site. It's always on the China stories, and it's always negative.

-9 ( +3 / -12 )

There is far far more bashing Japan on this forum on a daily basis from both disillusioned expats and resident Wumaos and Vankers, than bashing China. Most of the China bashing is a response to the latter.

The CCP is an truly evil unelected fascist regime. Bashing the CCP is not the equivalent of bashing the Chinese people. However just as there are Chinese people who do not support the CCP but can not say so, there are those who do support the CCP and their actions. And there are those who reside in free democratic countries but fight for the CCP on the internet.

4 ( +11 / -7 )

Wrong. Nothing wrong with stating loud and proud our opposition to an evil and despicable regime.

Indeed. But the insistence on tarring an entire nation with the same brush is not the right way to go about it.

It's deliberately antagonistic.

Most of us worship freedom and democracy - things that the Chinese gov't and everyone who supports them despises. They are the ones illegally occupying nations; crushing freedom demonstrations; committing ethnic genocide; threatening peaceful neighbors with annihilation; recklessly inflicting a virus on the world that has brought the world to its knees and killed millions...the list is endless.

The treatment of the Uighurs is barbaric and should rightly be called out. It was claimed yesterday that this was the worst genocide since WW2. That's open to debate. The Bangladesh genocide of 1971, or Cambodia a few years after. In terms of deaths, at any rate.

Boycott Communist China. All freedom-loving people agree.

China is not communist, though. This is why not everyone agrees with your slightly muddled but well-meaning call to action.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

All freedom-loving people agree.

No they don't. I'm freedom loving, yet don't feel the need to attack China every day in almost every post I make on this news site.

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

Good points in both of your comments, and it's refreshing to not see 100% anti Chinese rhetoric here.

Well, there's no point in slagging off an entire nation of people, right? It's childish and inflammatory. A government, however, is not an entire people. And the Chinese government is despicable, in my view. No doubt about it. One can only hope the Xi regime will eventually topple under its own weight, or the mighty and decent ordinary people of China will rise up again. It's a lot to ask for, but there's always hope.

Some appalling Japanese nationalist/japanophile views here from the same old people, and never removed.

Yes, it does get tedious on occasion. Hopefully, they'll have a slightly more evolved critical analysis as they get older.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

But the repetitive negative attacks on China on this site are dreadful. It makes you as bad as the government you attack, really.

Wrong. Nothing wrong with stating loud and proud our opposition to an evil and despicable regime.

The Commies can shut it. No one likes you, wants to deal with you, all or cares what you think.

That's not very fair. As someone who tries to follow certain tenets of communism, I can tell you that not many communists are in favour of the brutal Xi regime.

Freedom-loving, principled and democratic nations like Japan and The USA will ALWAYS stand up against evil totalitarian regimes, illegal occupation of territory, and the worst genocide since WW2.

That sounds great, in principle. But Japan and the US are not exactly paragons of democracy. The former with its treatment of black voters, media manipulation, demagoguery, toppling elected governemtns around the world. The latter... well, only the nationalists and Japanophiles would pretend all is rosey here.

Boycott Communist China!

That would be quite difficult, seeing as it isn't communist. But am totally in favour of boycotting China under Xi.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Wake up, Japan. Unchain yourself from US control.

You are a sovereign nation, not a vassal state.

Avoid antagonizing China anymore, you have done that before.

Be wise, try to be more friendly with China.

Never ever let US entice or force you to start yet another war..

-12 ( +5 / -17 )

My advice:

Don't mess with Japan.

Don't mess with a good relationship and deal your getting from Japan.

You hurt us, we can hurt you.

You must live in a different timeline with a gap of over 75 years.

Just a reminder,it is the U.S. that protects Japan not the other way around.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Biden has been colluding with President Xi, exchanging love letters, and having little trysts with visits to one another’s countries.

Still smarting after 45 lost, eh? Not Biden's biggest fan but he's nothing like his predecessor, who actually did publicly admire dictators, when he should have admonished them.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

"All political power comes from the barrel of a gun."

. . . Mao Zedong

A point very well proven since then to the present day.

11 ( +11 / -0 )

The blustering bully Chicom are not pleased. They will issue mean and cranky statements saying so. Give them tissues for their issues.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

“serious concerns” from the dictatorship? Seriously?

Us too. Why does the mainland think they are the main government. They are not a government for the people. They are a brutal dictatorship.

Long live Taiwan and our relatives.

11 ( +14 / -3 )

What we need to do is produce and manufacture things ourselves and freeze out China as soon as possible. It can be done. We all need to stop buying anything made in China. Stop going to the dollar store. Stop buying anything that is not made your own country. If you need something, buy it locally and make sure it has no parts from China, no China made anything. I know this is not easy, but if we all did this, we can be a part of the solution. Its a way to fight back without war.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

)))

Reading this, I recall Will Smith in MIB: "Captain America here. Best of the best of the best, sir! With honors!"

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

CCP China should be lucky Japan is restricted by Article 9.

No nuclear weapons.

Low military budget.

Not meeting with Tibet Leader.

Keeping distance from Taiwan.

Quad Alliance can expand with more countries joining and becoming a NATO like alliance with the purpose of China.

My advice:

Don't mess with Japan.

Don't mess with a good relationship and deal your getting from Japan.

You hurt us, we can hurt you.

“China has no objection to the development of normal bilateral relations between Japan and the United States, but such relations should help enhance mutual understanding and trust among regional countries and contribute to peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region, and should not target or harm the interests of third parties," Zhao said.

"Trust" and "Stability" being the imperative words here! Thing is, China can't be trusted! Every promise China has ever made, it broke! So for them to talk about trust is totally ridiculous! As for stability, it has done everything possible to make Asia-Pacific area UNSTABLE!!!

10 ( +12 / -2 )

Zhao told reporters at a daily briefing that Japan and the United States should “take China’s concerns and demands seriously, avoid words and actions that interfere in China’s internal affairs and harm China’s interests.”

This imperialist muppet is the parody of the CCP rhetoric propaganda.

Good that major democracies ties together their political and economical strength to contain this abomination that became the Chinese government.

I hope that this meeting will bring a fruitful collaboration between the U.S. and Japan for the pacific area in order to contain them.

Biden is proving to be a capable leader so far.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

@obladi: I will engage your post.

U S and Japan should not be so naive to think that China is the cause of their troubles. We need to fix things at home.

You are absolutely correct that the U.S. and Japan both have issues of our own doing and everything cannot be blamed on China.

However, the issue here is we have let greed and the hypocrisy of the elite to offshore jobs in the interest of cheaper (and often exploited) labor so profits could be increased. This is till going on today in the tech industry.

So as part of correcting our past errors it is completely necessary to offset what is happening in China. Japan and the U.S. should absolutely work together to ensure China's slow and steady expansionist policies are kept in check.

Unfortunately for Taiwan I believe that is a lost cause and the ship sailed in 1979....

4 ( +8 / -4 )

So what will Beijing do next unleashing the virus has worked well, can't imagine what's next

18 ( +20 / -2 )

U S and Japan should not be so naive to think that China is the cause of their troubles. We need to fix things at home.

Exactly... it seems that by blaming China for everything the US and Japanese Government is just diverting blame for their own failure. Moreover it’s just idiotic that bulk of the people in the US and Japan fall for this!

-23 ( +4 / -27 )

Boycott China

Easier said than done! Even the very phone or PC you used for writing your comment has components made in China! People trash China daily but the bottom line is that without China the world won’t be able to function as prices would soar and the people won’t be able to afford stuff! There are more than 7 billion people globally and if China products are boycotted/ banned then millions if not billions of people would just die by not being able to afford basic essentials! We should appreciate China for giving us cheaper products ( quality doesn’t matter for people living in poverty )! If it wasn’t for them then everyone would be paying crazy premium prices that we have in Japan for many locally made products. Developing countries won’t have been able to import these products at those prices and their citizens would have suffered!

-25 ( +3 / -28 )

"serious concerns" is correct. The free raping of non-Chinese companies and businesses is coming to an end. It wasn't just be the US and Japan. It will become most democracies. That will put real fear into the CCP-Chinese as only their internal customers, NK, and other dictatorships will do business when them.

Might take 10-20 yrs to get there and China can stop it by playing fair with non-Chinese.

14 ( +16 / -2 )

U S and Japan should not be so naive to think that China is the cause of their troubles. We need to fix things at home.

-19 ( +5 / -24 )

Boycott China

23 ( +27 / -4 )

Beijing will be sieged, and given a white flag for mercy.
