A waste of time and money. What's the point? They are both on the way out.
HopeSpringsEternal
Biden and Kishida need to figure out how successfully end US NATO Ukraine Proxy War Failure, that's busy metastasizing across Middle East and elsewhere, given rapidly growing risks of global terrorism.
HopeSpringsEternal
They could also discuss economic, political and policy strategies that could help their TERRIBLE approval ratings!

Will Kishida still be in office in April?
shogun36
Hey Joe, you can keep him as long as you like.

Pathetic...
Christopher Mas Osan
Whats the point?
Fair question.
Book deals to be discussed. A round of golf and Biden's favorite. A bike ride with his pal.
Neither one will hold office much longer. Down to months.
Sure a few things discussed. More weapons buying for the Pacific. Finalize the F35 deal.
Hmm....what else?

Talks on strengthening a critical alliance............what again!!! This is just another freebies trip for Kishida and his entourage, staying in the best hotels, eating at top restaurants, sight seeing...etc..etc. But don't worry, you tax payers will pay for it all.

Still Putin's War
JJE
Still Putin's war that he is winning: I'm sure that topic will come up for conversation. They might ask themselves some reflective questions relating to the series of shocking mistakes they made in provoking the entire conflict. Who knows...
TaiwanIsNotChina
Still Putin's war and still no movement of Russia's front line of note.

No idea what you're referring to. The only war in that region at the moment is an unprovoked Russian invasion of its sovereign neighbor.
We must be talking about entirely different wars. The one I'm talking about will end once Russia is removed from Ukraine, including Crimea.
Losing 87% of his pre-war troops? Destroying his economy? Becoming an international pariah? Suffering a huge brain drain? Reduced to begging North Korea for weapons? Having an arrest warrant for war crimes slapped on you by the ICC?
If that's "winning" I'd love to see your definition of losing.

I'm sure Kishida and Biden will discuss the grim prospects of the Kyiv government and say privately what they won't say publicly - that no one thinking with their brain believes the Kyiv military can outmuscle the Russian armed forces, let alone restore their 91 borders. Quite sure the discussion on this subject will be about the new policy over there that Biden has been searching for recently.
You'd hope allies can be honest with each other and he doesn't lead him along to make another symbolic financial commitment. He deserves the truth.

But why?
Bob Fosse
“He said that Biden and Kishida will likely discuss a range of issues in Asia, including how to improve cooperation with South Korea.
"I think you can expect to see a robust discussion about how we’re deepening our bilateral cooperation with Japan, improving our alliance capabilities across the board," Kirby said. “There will be a lot to discuss.”

Biden will be whispering to Kishida that he should open the Japanese doors to migrants…

Yep, they both understand it takes two to tango in Ukraine and their war's been dragging on since 2014 in reality. Invasion vs. Assisting Independence; just really depends upon your bias or level of objectivity.
Biden and Kishida understand Ukraine's a failure and increasingly so as the collateral damage spreads far and wide to the Middle East and beyond. They need to act.
Like any poker game, have to know when to fold. As Ukraine's not capable of military victory. Ukraine Parliament's hardening its position opposing further troop mobilization for this precise reason = Reality.
Ukraine Political fallout's Biden problem, not Kishida San

I wonder what price Biden will extract for rubber stamping the steel deal. There has to be a tribute paid to Rome; there is no free lunch in such matters, particularly in a master-servant-rules based order-type deal - this is basic geopolitics 101.
Yuuju
Theres something nostalgic for Kishida-san every time hes invited. Theres some kind of familiarity and closeness in these kind of political ties, like, Japanese nation has also always been ruled by the most senior men so I guess we can see theres some sort of kind of respect there too despite anything.
HopeSpringsEternal
If we're honest, Kishida san must sense real possibility Biden's a lame duck and will not run again in Nov,, for 'health' reason naturally. Bidens polling going from bad to worse, Obama's DNC's going to pull the trigger.
For Kishida, time is now to, 'pounce', try to extract some benefits from someone who's got one foot out the door.
Kishida San's like the kid trying to Mommie to change the will while she's on the deathbed, it's just business, and such biz dev can keep his domestic wolves at bay.

I had trouble understanding your post, so would like to clarify a few things.
...
By this, I take it you mean one (Russia) to invade illegally, and the other (Ukraine) to defend itself legally from those invaders.
By this, I take it you mean Putin's war.
By this, I take it you mean that Russia has completely failed in all its objectives, and actually has to contend with more NATO countries now and a bigger border with NATO, plus a wrecked economy.
By this, I take it you mean that the war is still ongoing, and Russia is clearly not capable of military victory or of achieving any of Putin's stated objectives.
...
I think that clears things up.
JJE
One would hope Kishida would exert independence - on behalf of him and for his country - and throw off the shackles that have driven Tokyo's good name and hard won benevolence into disrepute, and undermined all the good deeds attempted and their diplomatic clout worldwide in the matter of a few years.
It's not too late to start. One has to cut the strings to be an honest broker.
TaiwanIsNotChina
China is not the world.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Yeah, and "assisting independence" is still 100% illegal. Also going on a junket to Kyiv and threatening to go on a junket to Odessa are funny ways to assist independence. The world can identify a fascist country and invasion.
People gibbering for "action" or "peace" need to stop.
Do you fold when your family, house, and livelihood will be collected from the table?
They're not protesting the war on the street or in parliament, that is for sure.
It's primarily Russia's problem but Japan is also in the sanctions game a little bit.
Agent_Neo
I would agree with the idea of supporting ASEAN countries and Taiwan, but cooperation with South Korea? I would like Japan to stop imposing the burden of anti-Japanese countries on Japan.
Since Japan-Korea relations cannot be improved in many ways because of the United States, we recommend that Takeshima be returned to Japan, and that the issue of correct prostitutes and conscripted labor be announced, as well as the issue of fire control radar irradiation of Self-Defense Force aircraft. Solve it first. Once this is done, Japan-Korea relations will go from negative to zero.
Investors who can't cut their losses can never be called good investors.
TaiwanIsNotChina
I believe some sources are in order that the US is responsible for Japan-SK relations being strained.
JJE
Not everyone respects the self declared "rules based order" it appears. Even people and victims of Asia deserve a voice.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Who are the "victims of Asia"? The victims and potential victims of the CCP?
nik
Let them see each other, and then maybe the opportunity won’t present itself.
