The Japanese government publishing faulty data is as surprising as Japanese businesses doing the same thing. Form over substance is the slogan in Japan.

The government has failed to pay tens of billions of yen in unemployment insurance and workers' compensation to as many as 10 million people due to the labor ministry's publishing of faulty jobs data for the past 15 years, sources with knowledge of the matter said Thursday.

What exactly does "publishing faulty jobs data" have to do with payment of unemployment benefits?

There has got to be a hell of a lot more to this and I for one am PERSONALLY interested in this as I was refused unemployment compensation for a stupid arsed reason one time, roughly 10 years ago.

Someone help me out here... Unemployment benefits are paid based on a survey???

Sloppy reporting in not connecting how faulty jobs data relates to people not being paid their unemployment benefits.

At the moment this seems like they picked a problem from one story and the reason from another story and combined them into this story.

You know its unpaid due to something faulty / cover up and you NEED to consider to pay them or not?

You are worried about your unemployed statistic in the face of this? Please help me out here....

Evidence of a systematic cover-up has begun to emerge

So, who is going into detention awaiting trial? Nobody, of course.

This fishy tale sounds like a Japanese version of smoke'n'mirrors, but somewhere the bottom line is undoubtedly another government scam or huge bureaucratic screw up bilking hapless and helpless citizens of their due.

Governance!

I love the LDP.

Hah. One more to add to the stack of faulty governances. That pile is bigger than mount Fuji by now.

So, who’s going to pay for this indiscretion? The taxpayers of course. Dog forbid someone should be held directly accountable and punished. TIJ!

So, who is going to jail for this fraud? Let me guess, no one

You mean to tell me the unemployment figures have been false for years? That unemployment payments were reduced to match the false figures? Who would have thought such devious actions from the LDP led government.

FAX machine broke down?

So...10 billion yen or so unreported and unpaid to society but no arrest. Yet, Ghosn 5 billion yen unreported gets jail without bail. Do the math people!

I don't understand why the news is actually written as it is just a little "incident". This is huge. I mean a government doing falsification of the country unployment rate and millions of people being not paid their unemployment insurance and compensations as a consequence. This is insane.

I have been saying for a while that nobody should believe any data coming from the Japanese government including the employment rate simply because the country works as a mafia. It's just very corrupted. This manipulation of the unemployment data was not a mistake but it was intentional.

So the question is will a prosecution be started? I am not holding my breath for it.

Of course, no logical person here ever took seriously the unemployment rates that the LDP purports.

If ever there was a possibility that 'evidence may be tampered with' and grounds for detention ahead of prosecution - this case is surely it! I'll be eagerly awaiting for developments of the investigation to be reported...

For sure! This is huge! I didn't even bother clicking on this article at first because it looked so low-key. This should be headlining.

Incorrect reporting... falsification of data... does that sound familiar? And not just an allegation, documented and proven!

But no-one will even see the inside of a jail - you'll just get the usual apology, consideration to have a meeting to form a committee to make plans to try to prevent it happening again, a couple of fall guys get a 3 month cut in salary of 10%, and the cycle starts all over again.
