Johnson: "Brexit will be smooth."
Abe: "That's a good one. Did I tell you about the time I told everyone Fukushima is under control?"

Comedy gold. Lying Johnson just spent the week poncing around in Biarritz, bantering with Trump and Macron and playing to the cameras.
There is no plan. Johnson is just gaslighting the UK, imitating his orange overlord by repeatedly offering confusing and contradictory drivel.
Any assurance given by Johnson about anything is meaningless.

Shutting down parliament to force through a no deal Brexit?
Would he go that far?
Can he go that far?
Alfie Noakes
Yes and yes. The disaster capitalists behind Brexit don't care about proroguing Parliament or breaking up the Union. All pretence that Brexit is about anything other than naked greed has been abandoned now. All they care about is money.

Brexit. The monster that has swallowed two Prime Ministers and multiple parliament members. The same hardships May found out the hard way is starting to hit Johnson. Parliament is too divided and no one can and won't agree on anything. May even tried to find an extension as a last ditch effort to get more time and Parliament still couldn't agree on that. There is no "smooth brexit."
Jeff Huffman
Brexit is going to reduce the standards of living for those people who benefited most from EU membership.
Samit Basu
A smooth "No-Deal" Brexit that is.
Jimizo
It’s calculated. For example, he ruffles his hair up before going on camera.
Apparently, some people find it endearing.

I wish every media would stop posting those self-explanatory photos to their articles. Everyone knows Abe is not buying it, no need to visualize.

Abe does what Japan does best. Being hypocrite by changing his stance according to his interlocutor and shamelessly butt kissing to protect the Japanese Inc's interests.
kohakuebisu
I normally don't do this but.
assure verb
tell someone something positively to dispel any doubts."Tony assured me that there was a supermarket in the village" synonyms:reassure, convince, satisfy, persuade, guarantee, promise, tell; More
make (something) certain to happen. "victory was now assured"A word with contradictory meanings and perfect in this context. Talking about something positively does not make it certain to happen. Things that are certain to happen do not actually need assurances.
I note that the article cannot last a single sentence before backpedaling from "assuring a smooth Brexit" to "assurances he will aim for a smooth Brexit". That's Brexit in a nutshell. Any modicum of scrutiny and it all falls apart.

Can't stand most of these politicians - lying comes naturally to them.
CrazyJoe
Kind of amazing that the Brits would allow this witless fop of a so-called man to lead them over the cliff to their economic downfall.
You would never see Americans doing...oh, wait...

Shinzo-kun has enough to worry about here in Japan I think. Oh wait, that's right, he can't be bothered worrying about Japan.
Dango bong
why does that guy always look disheveled?
kurisupisu
Actually I meant to write ‘assure’ instead of ‘surrender’but now I’m not so sure of anything...
gogogo
Abe cracked a joke that no one understood.

I suggest granting the post-Brexit UK an observer status in TPP, in hope of becoming a full member. Despite geographical distances, the UK is closely connected with its Commonwealth member states belonging in TPP namely Australia, NZ, Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei. The TPP side also needs an "outpost" near Europe.

And why is Abe wearing a tie?
Surely he believes in cool biz?
I’ll have my t-shirt on ...
commanteer
That's rather stating the obvious isn't it?
Wakarimasen
Honest Abe looks like he is having fun for a CHANGE.
Scrote
Abe is laughing at Johnson's Brexit problems.
kurisupisu
Since there has never been a Brexit is rather difficult to surrender anyone of anything...
rcch
"smooth" he says...
if there wasn,t an upcoming nightmare for the british people, i would say this whole thing,s almost funny...
rcch
if the UK stops thinking they,re the "USA" of Europe, and accept his place in the world (in Europe), things would be alot more easier... but nooo, the old british arrogance is still kicking...
Udondashi
The Trans Pacific Partnership agreement is a package includes mass immigration and low level regulation of transgenic foods. The British are very very smart people, not stupid like Japanese people so I'm sure that they stay away from it, because TPP is pure poison !
