Is China a member?

No. My mistake.

I cannot begin to categorise my ignorance.

Out, damned spot! out, I say!

Calm down people. Why is this a bad thing?

We live in a globalized world to begin with.

If UK wants to join which I consider a friend, we should let them join.

UK might help keep China in check too. South Korea in East Asia is not willing to do anything about it. Won't even join Quad Alliance.

Woops, missed out Singapore.

Mickelicious,

The 11 members of the CPTPP are Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru and Vietnam.

Don't see China anywhere among that list!

I will not even bother to categorise your ignorance.

When the UK joins it will be the second largest economy in the CPTPP

An East India Company, to entertain the natives?

As the UK is a non-founding member, its successful entry would let TPP turn a page for the new chapter.

Good move UK. This is how you break away from China's influence. EU(Germany) is in China's tight grip, they can't do anything

Also, reunion with the other Anglo little buddies for good old time sake

Performing monkey, impressive and appropriate name, I refer you to my previous post as to why your insightful economic analysis is a little off,

paul, nothing to do with begging, it’s international trade, does Japan need to be near Europe or Africa to trade with them? When the UK joins it will be the second largest economy in the CPTPP and will increase its economic clout in world affairs appreciably.

Jimizo, I suggest your coworkers need a broader education, no one is remotely suggesting the UK is the world leader but if they look outside their own island they will see that it still has appreciable economic, diplomatic and cultural clout (soft power), one of only 3 counties in the world with a global expeditionary military capability as well as being a long standing ally of Japan.

How is that even possible??? Far from Japan and not near the Pacific... Looks like a beggar not a world leader.

We lost our status as a world leader long before we ended up at the desperate and dateless party.

My Japanese coworkers found the idea of the UK joining this agreement hilarious.

And the negative comments toward the UK from posters seem a little odd to me. Japan doesn't have many friends in Asia, so having the UK (a friend of Japan) here is a positive thing, no?

It wouldn't surprise me if they were CCP trolls (remember they don't like us... and we recently offered to let UK Passport holders from HK to come to the UK... which the CCP didn't like, tee hee)

As for the request itself... it's not a unique. Israel and Russia take part in the Eurovision Song Contest despite not being European lol

Great Idea! I think the UK is ideally placed to make some great deals trading in Asia. Perhaps we can use our brand new Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier to tow the British isles over towards Australia or park it off the coast of SIngapore.

The UK is not part of Asia.

The UK is not situated in the Pacific

Don’t give money to beggars! It only encourages them.

Isn't britain closer to Europe?

Shhh. Don't wake them up, they're so cute when they're asleep.

Britain already has trade agreements with most of the members already, this is just an advantageous and easy way of accessing the rest without the need of individual negotiations and shows the UK’s commitment to the region.

@sakurasaki, the UK trades around the world and has for well over four centuries. Japan is closer to China but it still does business in Europe.
