Bollox... any normal thinking person would think this display of weaponry and military might was aimed at the outside world, showing how 'powerful' they still are. This mass parade of hardware was not about commemorating the end of the war, it was about power, pure and simple.

And Communist China didn't defeat Imperial Japan, the same as the Soviet Union didn't defeat Nazi Germany: it was a combined effort by the Allies. Talk about rewriting history...

They did not invite Russian president Putin to the two most recent G8 summits even though Russia is a member of G8. They are boycotting Russia over the crisis in Crimea, Ukraine. The leaders of major Western countries are staying away from China's military parade mainly because Russian president Putin is the guest of honor.

I am sure it's hard to swallow for those used to the status quo, but the world domination/policing of America and its wishful attempts to suppress/contain China are no more and crumbling so rapidly. Even the CNN guest commentator during the parade today agreed that China (even with less war experience and less war-infused mentality such as the U.S. forces) would be unpredictably or insurmountly hard to defeat in any military scenario, not to mention China's other options that are superbly and quickly matching or surpassing U.S.' domination in other military capabilities.

Ha ha.. bet the parade and mini show of force by China today sure pulled Abe and his cronies also back from his wet dream (to confront/match China) to reality. @turbostat: Indeed, there is a minority (among historians; among uyoku it's more popular) view in Japan about it being a Communist plot.

However, I don't think that's a major part of the calculation, since neither side (Chinese-Nationalist or Japanese) could have known that. What they are expected to know is what Japanese mention and Chinese (and the West) tend to try to mokusatsu - that it was Chinese soldier(s) that fired first at the Japanese. Whether it was a Commie plot or an accident does not change this fact.

And you know what's the worst part about the nightmare - the part the Chinese are very loathe to admit?

They could actually have avoided over 99% of those deaths if Chiang Kai-shek had taken the decision to stay cool at Marco Polo Bridge and not send 4 more divisions when there were ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY THOUSAND of them (just ground forces) versus 5600 Japanese in region.

And he might have done so if the Communist Party had not arranged his kidnapping and made him at least verbally agree to unite against the Japanese. And the Communist Party of course had less than virtuous motives in all this. Without the Sino-Japanese War, they would have lost. So, to win their little Civil War, they prodded Chiang Kai-shek into starting a war the Chinese could not win.

Not that the Chinese people themselves were raving for war - poorly educated peasants who are learning to stand together, but not learning enough to realize they aren't ready to do so.

And they didn't - Japanese were said to be advancing in China even on the last day of the war.

I don't understand why China is being so hostile and aggressive while it states that it's important to make the world more peaceful. Probably It's trying to raise the sense of nationalism and tarnish the image of Japan, however, this attitude actually just shows the world China's aggressiveness, which is making the image of it worse and worse.

Umm, wasn't it the Allied Powers of USA, UK , USSR etc defeated Japan? Kinda hard to win with 3 or 4 against 1. By the way the present Communist government was locked in battles with the Nationalist government The lion share of fighting was from the Nationlist government that fled to Taiwan.
