The sooner Japan builds a large naval base on the Senkakus - her islands - the better.

China is an endless troublemaker in the world that will hopefully be dealt with ultimately.

I meant, China is the one to blame in any dispute with any other country. China is always to blame. Nobody believes otherwise.

Nixons and Henry Kissinger's policy to China is coming to an economic head. The idea that once "the people" got wealthy they would want democracy has been proven wrong...so far! They may have ignored that some dictators get greedy, and they want power. China has now become the bully in the neighbourhood.

It was China. It's always China. Nobody believes otherwise.

Japan should immediately deploy anti-ship and Air Defense weapons to the area. Then, tell Chinese vessels (military or Coast Guard types) that if they do not leave the area, they will be forced out by lethal means if required. Yes. SINK one of their boats quickly and film it with all the radio conversation.

Do NOT let China get away with this crap!

The Government of Japan needs a deterrent, a means to give the Government of China a clear meaningful direct message that Japan’s territorial sovereignty over the Senkaku Islands will be protected by military force.

Get out of Japan's sovereign territory, China. You have no business being here. And if you need a reminder of what will happen if you try to steal the Senkakus:

Besides, I am wondering if Chinese increased outward hostility reflects its domestic problems.

Yes, I think it does. We also saw increased aggression during the chaos at the height of COVID-19 (again, 100% China's fault.) This is a similar situation.

Any responsible government would turn its attention and resources to its domestic problems (and China's are huge and growing), but dictators tend to do the opposite: they lash out at other countries and try to whip up nationalist sentiment so that their people will hopefully forget for a while just how awful their government is.

This pattern has been repeated throughout history; the Falklands War was a famous case.

China has tried land grab ever since the Han Dynasty 2,000 years ago and has never stopped. Other countries did for a while and stopped. That's the difference. To a country civilized, land grab is no more interesting.

Senkaku island is Japanese ……period, and Taiwan was and will never be Chinese

6 ( +8 / -2 )

@TokyoLiving, you wish it was the US fault. The blame lies on CCP China and them alone. They are trying to make an imperialistic landgrab on Taiwan (which belongs to the ROC NOT the CCP), claiming "ownership" over areas that belong to the Philippines, Vietnam, Japan, and other smaller nations in the region. Cold bony hands applies only to CCP China. You know this.

Only China believes that. And even they didn't until the 1970s.

and Taiwan was and will never be Chinese

Says nothing about whether the CCP has some right to all Qing territory. The CCP is already missing several other parts of that.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Kangxi was the Emperor of the Qing Dynasty. Which ws replaced by the Republic of China. Which is Taiwan.

Taiwan has never been part of or under the contril of the PRC.

Maps from Qing era China and those from the PRC as late as 1960 depicted the Senkaku Islands as Japanese. They have been part of Okinawa Prefecture since 1895 and were under US occupation from 1945 - 1972 when Okinawa Prefecture was returned to Japan. Were they legitimately Chinese soil taken from China then the US would not have occupied them after WWII but would have returned them to the ROC as they did Taiwan and the Pescadores. The Senkaku Islands were in fact uninhabited "terra nullus" before being taken under Japanese control.

It is funny how the chinese government spend its money in these type of forums....

5 ( +5 / -0 )

US is preoccupied with helping Israel, Europeans are busy with helping Ukraine. So? Japan should be ready for defending itself, both militarily and diplomatically, and strengthen alliance with other Asian countries facing Chinese aggression. Besides, I am wondering if Chinese increased outward hostility reflects its domestic problems.

China make believe… again

Rather than build an expensive to maintain and supply base on the Senkaku Islands Japan needs to maintain a continuous Coast Guard presence with a series of large helicopter equipped and well armed patrol ships. The ships should carry 3 or 4 manned helicopters and several UAVs to maintain sensor persistence and the helicopters should be capable of being armed with small rockets like APKWS and door guns.

An additional class of smaller patrol ships carrying UAVs, built with double hulls and heavily reinforced to allow deliberate shouldering of Chinese vessels and even ramming should act as shepherds for Japanese fishing vessels.

The US has mentioned in the past the capability of their SSGNs to land forces on the Senkaku Islands if intelligence suggests the Chinese might try to make a move there.

China is checking the response time for Japan and the US.

Not according to past statements and the Mutual Cooperation and Security Treaty.

According to the terms of Japan's surrender, the sovereignty of Diaoyu Islands reverted back to the Republic of China on August 15th, 1945.

So get Taiwan to make the claim for you. Oh wait, you want war with them as well.

Wrong. The Senkakus were never included and reverted to Japan. The US then used one of threse islamds as a live bombing training site. Don't you ever tire of posting blatantly false information?

Nobody cares about these islands. They care about the EEZ surrounding them where the sea can be exploited and drilled for oil.

If these countries wanted to actually solve this disagreement, there are international tribunals just for that, but China doesn't want to allow disinterested parties to rule and to be bound by the outcome, unless it goes their way. There are complicated histories all around the islands of east and southeast Asia, so nobody would be surprised if the ruling was unexpected by all countries.

So, from the CCP-Chinese perspective, trying to bully your desired outcome has greater chance to achieve the goal - at least that's their belief.

To put things in perspective China annexed Taiwan two centuries before Japan annexed the Ryukyu

Islands.

To put things in proper perspective, the Qing Dynasty annexed Taiwan. Japan defeated the Qing Dynasty in 1895 and Taiwan was handed over to Japan. The Qing Dynasty collapsed and was replaced by the Republic of China. In 1945 at the end of WWII, ownership pof Taiwan was handed over to the Republic of China. In whose hands Taiwan remains today.

I actually researched some knowledge for Japanese Islands and was truly flabberghasted (English word) by the results..................Japan is an archipelago of 14,125 islands, of which approximately 260 are inhabited.  And Japan is the largest island country in East Asia and the fourth largest in the island nations of the world.....So there.

Is the day an all out war breaks out between Japan and China. All Japanese civilians are banned from approaching within 1 nm of the Diaoyu Islands.

@Gabour: hear about a Chinese claim to Singapore....

And the planet Mars, Chinese ancient astrology was the first country in civilized world has written record to prove their discovered that red planet. We have spacecraft landed there already !

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

It was Richard Nixon stolen that island from China with a pencil drawing on the map. Because he wanted to draw a conflict between China and Japan. This is good for America keeping their occupation forces in Japan with politicalreasons!

@Tortoise: They have been part of Okinawa Prefecture since 1895...

Okinawa was a kingdom which has nothing to do with Imperial Japan. The Okinawa locals never recognized themselves were Japanese, even the mayor of Okinawa prefecture went to China to visit the graves of their ancestors. Japan has no legitimate claim over Senkaku islands. When did the Japanese took over Okinawa ? 1879, part of Meiji's expansion strategy.
