India made the right decision by not joining the trade agreement. “Free trade”will damage domestic industries and hurt the most vulnerable of workers.

boost the region's future growth prospects and contribute positively to the global economy,

In other words more consumption and 'leaders' continuing business as usual.

Despite all the warning signs that this economic system that relies on the magiclal idea of perpetual growth has already taken us past 9 of the earth's natural system boundaries, and ever closer to collapse.

There is only one country that will truly benefit from this trade initiative: China. Mark my words.

India is the world's biggest democracy and a strategic regional counterbalance to China. This was the reason for this choice, make no mistake about it.

India was "wise" to do so.

It is dangerous to "follow" any of China's plans and leadership, even if they make "promises". They have not kept any of their promises to the world so far other than for an extremely small part, just to show and to say they tried while making changes to their so called promises to limit or to alter what it originally meant and was intended for. That is because they make sure they hold the controlling card as soon as they get an agreement from others.

Japan must be extremely careful and not commit any "investments" into or with China for any reason or participate jointly in any thing with China other than that which Japan originated and have full control.

There is good and bad here. It is good that the regional countries are trying to make a trading agreement to boost mutual wealth for their people, and it is good that the US is on the outer here. But the overwhelming economical aggression of China needs firm restraints in any agreement to ensure balance to benefit the rest.

India is the world's biggest democracy and a strategic regional counterbalance to China.

It has also observed how China operate first hand. It stood, watched and listened as China built a 'Road' of friendship to Tibet, then came the merchants to feed the troops, then came the troops who surrounded Tibet, like a 'Belt'. Then there was no Tibet.

The country at the centre of Belt & Road will be the biggest winner, because it will have the biggest most comprehensive access to markets (for buying and selling) relative to other countries. China is not only the focal point, it is also most in control of B&R.

Whilst India's decision appears wise, it won't do much in terms of defending itself against the coming onslaught. Countries like Australia who has shuttered most of its manufacturing capability and who currently has a trade surplus with China will be wiped out economically as China source more and more minerals from other markets via B & R.

If you want to prosper, or maintain your standard of living, you have to find ways to actively and passively decouple from China and its global trade system. It is basic algebra, you can not be as efficient as China if they are producing and selling higher quantities.

Well more than two-thirds of the total value of trade between India and China consists of Chinese exports to India, now trade trade with lower or even no tariffs would be a disaster, maybe after a decade India will move towards laissez-faire, but at this point definitely not.

Well that's what Trump is doing, Modi has also kick started this decoupling process, the B&R at one point will only be limited to the debt trap countries.
