That's such good news. The only major economic power that happens to be a totalitarian dictatorship, has a territorial expansion agenda, and freely mixes trade with political and strategic interests is going to be the leader. Let's take a wild guess as to who gets the best deal. Somebody needs to sit down with the pompadour elect and explain to him what this is all about. TPP has never been and is not only about trade,

“Withdrawing from trade agreements, talking about shaking up alliances, talking about pulling out of the climate change agreement, talking about pulling out of Iran - all of these make China look like the responsible stakeholder,” Paal said.

Hard to argue with that...

TPP is complete disaster but free trade with china smells fish

I think all parties will be better off dealing with the proposal of China. I hope that baring America from trade with Asia happens. We do need any of America produce because Apple is the only thing worth buying and they are a offshore company. Asia can do better. Let go Asia and exclude America and Europe from the proposed Asia free trade zone.

japan seems to be betting on india in the coming decades, china is still the largest market but it has a similar aging population issue as japan does. nor does america represent any potential of growth. india is unmatched in this regard.

“If the U.S. gives up its leadership here, of course China will take the role,” LOL I knew this was going to happen, now lets see if Trump is happy that China is willing to take its place in an Asian TPP. Chinas economy has much more growth potential in the coming decades than the US, Im willing to bet Trump continue with the TPP , just relabel it ad call it his own. The US isnt the only go to in world FTAs, get on board or get out, same goes with Japan. US and Japan will be at an disadvantage should a China led FTA materialize, and im betting itll be much easier to negotiate than the TPP.

Donald Trump is a big business man, what he cares is struck a deal whoever willing to pay. If someone argues the TPP is not just about trade,trade,trade.... but a lot more on 'Values' and so on. You are definately out of touch with the reality.

You forget that india is also unmatched in the number of people leaving under the poverty level. It would take india something like 50 years to be at the level that china is now. you can take that to the bank.
