Given from what I have been seeing in china, it's house of cards is going to come tumbling down. And it won't be pretty

It's actually quite alarming that the Chinese Military is telling the US what to do, rather than the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

China military tells U.S. not to encourage Japan over isles

I didn't bother reading past the titile of this article.

First of all, the Chinese military is in no way powerful enough to tell America what to do.

bannedacctsamSep. 14, 2013 - 04:53PM JST As evidenced by recent polls to the conflict in Syria, the US public and Congress has absolutely no appetite for any >military intervention.

Yes the US public has no appetite for military intervention in another Mideast civil war. But if you think that the US public would feel the same way towards an attack on America's closest Asian ally, or an attempt to take part of Okinawa, home of the largest US military presence in the region, you are very much mistaken.

Same old topic day in day out , same outrageous claims by same old users

Not much change, as some user here said might as well copy and paste, with no constructive debate or comment at all just the usual rants without facts.

What I find funny is that the PRC minister did exactly what all PRC politicians do, spin spin spin what Mr Miller said into a childish propaganda tidbit.

Miller has said exactly what every US politician has said,"The United States does not take a position on the ultimate sovereignty of the islands, but we do recognize they are under the administration of Japan and fall under our security treaty obligations,”

That is the line they always say, but what Mr Wang Guanzhong so happily forgot to listen to and repeat was what always follows ,"The United States opposes any unilateral or coercive action that seeks to undermine Japan’s administrative control,”.

The PRC really really needs to think before it "takes action", because if they take the wrong action their not so mighty People Liberation Army Navy will find itself taking a grand tour of the not so mighty Beiyang Fleet and Davy Jones will be the guide.

So to all those PRC Water Internet Army members here, keep reading your talking point memos, but know this, that won't change what will happen if your Paper Tiger Navy takes a chance.

Oh my, once again China is showing that it does not have a clue how to be a modern nation in the community of nations who work together to maintain not only their own interests but world peace and cooperation. It is clear that national interests for China have led it to assume an aggressive stance in the Pacific for both political and economic reasons and they they want to assume the role of the former British Empire ruling with gunboat diplomacy and self interest as their main goals. We all learned the hard way that such leads to conflict and we no longer wish for or can afford such policies in the international community.

Japan has shown that it is a strong, sane and rational modern nation that projects it goals with rational and reasonable means, and supports a fine and vigorous economy with dignity and insight. Their clear and balanced policy on the Islands in question which are now part of Japan has been a model of modern diplomacy. China on the other hand is living in a strange fantasy world of its own making quite similar to how North Korea acts, which makes the actions of North Korea not so surprising.

Words to not change reality. Japan owns and controls and rules the islands in question. The US and the rest of the world will support this, as it is fundemantal for the law of nations for such sovereignty to be the foundation for any modern nation state. So China can poster all it wants but it won't get its way with such bullying and threats. As with any Bully it is best to just stand with resolution and face them, but never to encourage or fear them.

I am proud of Japan's reasonable and dignified actions in this, and am sure they will continue. And I am sure that the US and all reasonable nations will support and help defend them if it is needed. Go lecture yourselves China, there is plenty for you to take care of at home.

Yeah cool head not likely, better arms UN with US against poorly arm Chinese army got their butt kick, to want to use nuke as they are losing, more like guilty conscience of dropping 2 ATOMIC bombs on Japan and not forgetting the Russian bear.

people here like to read what they feel comfortable with, they cannot face reality as it hurt too much.

ordinary citizens of China, japan and Korea, would prefer to get on with their live rather than worry about all the cesspool coming out from the politicians from all sides.

The bottom line are the right wing and politicians are to be blame for all this problem, as for history each believe they are right.

The people here when they curse they curse the whole country, China this China that, so shouldn't other do the same, and once it happen they run to the mod I got bully or the mod simply remove it BIAS as we know after all it is a Japan site, home team have the advantage..

If you want to use source to back up your answer the best you can come up with are from Wikipedia, which even the professor will throw it into the bin not worth their time reading it.

Getting thumb up or down mean nothing, after all this is cyber space anyone can say anything grow up people , I can recommend you a site where anything under the SUN can be a target, the mod/owner just let it goes, sitting back watching the fireworks.

Hmm some of the posts are very hard to interpret, could it some jokers that had to many beers and can hardly identify the keys anymore? Just a note on the history about the NK problem and China during the 50:s. I understand if you guys want to feel proud of China but please dont twist history to the point of ridiculous. Dont forget that it was luck and cool minds in the US administration that saved Chinas existence during the korean war. If they hadnt pulled back and controlled D. Macarthur I guess most of Chinas major cities would have ended up as a pile of rubble and ash. Dont even think of the number of casualties. Well I guess the post from China to the US of A tells that they want to feel big anyway.

America's once strident, aggressive assertive and unrealistic stance now tempered by the fat that the Chinese hold a "Balance of power" over the U.S. Petro Dollar" in American debt-papers. As we speak: Feds print money by the billions per week to keep the illusion of "recovery' afloat. Detroit City is so bankrupt, Chicago next, three Californian cities gone, as America "adjusts" to a Third World reality. We are witnessing, from Canada, the demise of an Empire, an ever-sickening morality there, a new and discouraging Ethics, a gun oriented culture in their streets, and even the demise of Christianity there. My question: Are China and Russia "silent partners'? Do they lean together on the U.S.A. now?

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

As basic knowledge about USA is that they do not concern for Japan-China territorial dispute. Thats a first thing that China must take a memo, and even they request to USA to not support for Japan, they often mention about that to USA in their official talk, which means they always provide unsuitable topic that USA does not really care from themselves. Taking back the island is actually almost impossible plan for China historically and currently cuz of current situation and criticism by international society to caution their violent actions in Asian region.

China’s military told the United States this week not to support Japan

Oh, the military is now dictating China's politics. Is Wang lecturing the USA on foreign diplomacy? Is he backed by chairman Xi Jinping and 'retired' leaders like Hu Jintao? Watch out from where the rhetoric is coming and how this will influence domestic attitude and international respect towards the PRC.

IRobinSep. 14, 2013 - 12:16PM JST @OssanAmerica, I dont want to say who is stupid. Best not to speak of yourself that way,

1, the USA is not a ally that can be count on.The USA is too smart to involve in a great confliction with China, that is a >blood lession of the UK that lost the first position. The USA will not do that, everyone knows about this, except Japan >and some other nations.

As if China is? Oh wait, China HAS no allies. If you honestly believe that nations like the UK, EU members cannot "count on" the US then I'm afraid you are living in another reality.

2, China want to push Japan to the opposite of the national moral standarts on the topic of right wing of Japan I.e the >history problem. So more military in Japan more disadvantages for Japan. China know about this, so China keep >pushing on the disputes islets to make Japan keeping status of 'bad guide' status.

China simply wants full control of the entire South and East China Seas. They have said so themselves. There really is no need for an analysis.

3, China never think Japan as a match in military. Japan has too many weaks like nuclear plants and too small to >sustain a war with China. To defeat Japan, only missiles can do that by destroy nuclear plants and main airports etc. And all of this can be do before the USA can provide any help.

China has never made any correct military judgments in it's history. And only you would be dreaming about an all out war, something even China does not want. China has no experience in an all out war. The United States does, a fact that has terrified the PLA since 1990 by their own admission.

4, the biggest enemy of China is the USA, but look at the USA, the USA only want China know that he is great, but >never want to trigger a war with China. More military in Asia but more business communication with China proved this, >after all, there is a Russia, Russia is more powerful will never miss the chance that can challenge the USA, So the >USA will not trigger a war with China, let alone on the sack of ally of Japan.

It is China that does not want to start a war with the US. Proof? Where are the PLAN ships around the Senkakus? And Russia is as weary of China's aspiration to become the "dominant military power" in East Asia anmd their efforts to break the First Island Chain. After all, Russia already has Pacific access. Don't confuse Russian competition with the US for any kind of loyalty to China.

in all , the war actually is in area of economy, Japan failed here already. China and S.korea had winned this by far.

China's economy is heading downhill. Has been for a couple of years. There is a limit to what state intervention and disguising numbers can do, eventually it will hit a wall.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

yea, China trying to lobby or warned US not to support Japan....... big bully!!!! what a BS statement, sign of greediness and BIG Bully "I am Big, u do as what I tell u to do"

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

I agree with highball7. Let's not get things out of hand. The world especially Asia would be so much better if the US, China and Japan work towards peace and cooperation. But now this seems rather far off!

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Its actually quite simple for China. Don't step on our toes, and we won't give you any problem. China can inquire and ask us not to encourage this issue but China also needs to be a constructive partner in the region and take care of the regional problems. This Japan issue is a tiny irrelevant one that really doesn't involve the US since all sides are clear that no war will break out because of it.

The NK problem is the real issue here.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

For us SEAsians, deep in our hearts, we fear Japan even more because of the history we learnt from Jpan. If not for America, we would all be speaking Jpanese now! We really don't care about the Diaoyus as it does not affect us. The Malaysian government even publicly stated that they are not too concerned about the Diaoyus and want to cooperate on the issue. On ly the Philippines show some concern but they are now going to start a civil war in the south with the Muslim separatists! It is best that Japan lets the international community settle this issue. Uncle Sam can't help the Syrian opposition and will not go to war over some rocks!

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Whatever the reason why China was not invited, or included in the treaty of San Francisco, it was not "legal" in terms of representation, and of international law. China has no obligation to be bound by that treaty. This is the tragedy that the US created because of the cold war of the 1950's.

Perhaps this was due to China's support of North Korea during the Korean war?

Can anyone see history repeating itself? We have people being gassed, aggressive countries claiming land that isn't theirs, and Americans who are sick of war. The only puzzle piece that is missing is a sneak attack on US interests. China is going to start something they don't want. The US cannot allow communism to spread to it's backyard. China knows this. Being Japan is the number one trade partner and the wall that blocks communism from spreading closer to the Americas, the US will defend Japan until the end of time. China should know this so their comments are just for show.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Japan should just do it, action speak louder than words or only NATO.

China has already said all it need to said, just waiting for Japan to station JDF on the islands, and all your wishes will be grant, since all here want a war do it. All will have a Merry Happy Nuclear Winter.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

When are these two governments going to agree to an independent enquiry, with respected History Scholars from both countries putting forward their claim. With the findings of the independent enquiry to be agreed by both China and Japan. Only I for see a slight problem already with this idea as two prominent Japanese professors agree with the China. Oh well forget this idea, back to the drawing board.

Pity the poor citizens of China who have had listen to the tortured rhetoric and hypocritical ramblings of the CCP and PLA for the last 64 years.

“The United States should maintain a consistent stance and policy, not send wrong signals nor support and connive with the relevant country to do as they please,” Wang added.

Really? The USA's 'consistent stance and policy' IS to 'support...the relevant country (Japan)'. Japan is acting in accordance with international law, if it was 'doing as it pleased' I imagine a lot of CCG boats would be at the bottom of the ocean. 'Connive'? Everything the USa and Japan is above board and clearly expressed unlike the CCP who sneak about saying one thing while doing the opposite.

I'm glad I wasn't born in China. Having to listen to these clowns on a daily basis would give me brain damage.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Thank goodness for all my Chinese friends. Otherwise, I wouldn't know better than to lump in the people with the idiot politicians running China.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

The Chinese military is beginning to develop delusions of grandeur. They need a reminder that the last country they fought a war with, Vietnam, not only kicked their butts, but did it mostly with reservists and militia, without even depending on its main army divisions.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Both China and Russia are now imposing their own interests on USA. I never thought I would see the day.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

China's got it wrong, it's the US that is encouraging Japan to get into conflict with China.

china: dont encourage japan to do as it please, because we want to do as we please

talking about selfish

Hello China Government, no country is giving side to Japan for no reason. China provokes not only Japan, China tries to also takeover by force other islands in ASEAN countries, China took over Taiwan with continues provocations and showing to Taiwan their military force. Don't forget what China has done in Tibet.

What do China think, The whole World will just sit and wait while they take over each island or country one by one? Hello China, the whole World is not stupid to figure out your demonic intentions.

@ LSpiro

This dispute issue has its origin at the signing of the Treaty of San Francisco which China was not invited to, Understandably US is the party that sow the seed of discontent between China and Japan. May be its time US come clean to have this uncertainty resolved instead of issuing insinuated conflicting comments on the ownership of the disputed Islands.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

If it was not "legal" then it is up to China to bring the issue to the ICJ. That they do not says much about the legitimacy of the "legal" argument you propose. Nor should hey be conducting a harassment program or make threats of war.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

yes yes yes mr. china-gov, we, the usa, will tell japan to not do anything if saint-china grabs the senkakus (ouch)

0 ( +2 / -2 )

The PRC really has no shame. How pathetic.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Instead, China military should tell themselves not to be so bully over the Isles. America has an obligation under the agreement to assist Japan when attacked. So, let's speak Chinese "it's a matter of internal policy". What a shame!

6 ( +7 / -1 )

sangetsu03 Sep. 14, 2013 - 08:27AM JST The islands belonged to America following the war, when they were surrendered by the Japanese.

Actually, it was the cold war that divided the world, U.S .and its allies on the one side, Communist China and the Soviet on the other side. In the 1950's the Republic of China was the legal rep of all China, and it was not invited to SF Treaty because the US and Britain were "split" on how to deal with the China issue, since Britain recognized Communist China, the PRC, well before the U.S.

Whatever the reason why China was not invited, or included in the treaty of San Francisco, it was not "legal" in terms of representation, and of international law. China has no obligation to be bound by that treaty. This is the tragedy that the US created because of the cold war of the 1950's.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

The islands belonged to America following the war, when they were surrendered by the Japanese. America returned the islands to Japan not so many years ago in a negotiated agreement. This agreement gives America some legal interest in the issue.

China has much more to lose in the issue over these islands than either America or Japan. It is a non-issue which has been fanned into flames by China to keep the Chinese people distracted from problems in China.

9 ( +14 / -5 )

There is not strong public support in Japan for changing the Constitution to allow a full-fledged military, something that Abe tried and failed to do four years ago. The increases in military spending are also limited by Japan’s own economic weakening. Given its limits, Japan’s strategy appears for it to become a fuller military partner of the U.S. They are currently sharing command centers and intelligence. Japan is probably seeking to combine the two militaries together in order to keep the U.S. engaged in East Asia. Japan is also hedging against the day when U.S. capabilities might slip below U.S. commitments. China pushed Japan back toward the U.S. after the Chinese trawler incident and radar lock that surprised and angered many Japanese. China has misplayed its hand in the last year, and that has forced Japan to get more realistic about regional security issues. The stronger Japan will maintain the regional security balance since there are dramatic increase in Chinese naval activity in the area.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

I encourage PRC to announce a date for multiparty elections.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

”Dont encourage Japan. Or support them. The islands are not for you to get involved in... (unless you are siding with us on the issue)"

7 ( +8 / -1 )

The Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands may not be an issue if other things are at stake. There's China desire to divert attention from its domestic troubles, and the national prestige of both countries. If Chinese government is seen to back down its reputation in the eyes of its own citizens, it could be damaged very significantly too. And losing the shooting war is indeed a very real possibility to China. It doesn't mean those things can't happen. The factors that speak of it do not prevent the possibility of China still doing something that is stupid. It is a mistake to think everything rests on economic calculations.

Japan has a mutual defense pact with the U.S. and China has been busy alienating Vietnam and the Philliphines in the past few years, likewise over uninhabited islands. Their aggressive posture, though perhaps popular domestically, has already cost them much in terms of geopolitical position. A war over uninhabited islands would certainly open up possibility of a conflict with it's southern neighbors, who also have disputes over uninhabited islands with China. Chances are with no certainty, U.S. would intervene just to prevent those possibilities and obtain very valuable allies on Chinese borders. I doubt China will take that chance.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

“The United States should maintain a consistent stance and policy, not send wrong signals nor support and connive with the relevant country to do as they please,” Wang added."

The United States has always and continues to maintain a consistent stance and policy: Do not attempt to settle this issue with force. Otherwise article 5 of the US-Japan Mutual Defense Treaty will be invoked and China will be starting a shooting war with the United States,

" China was determined to defend its territory, but had all along exercised restraint."

China's definition of "defending it's territory" is to claim someone else's territory and try to take it slowly but surely, That's not "defending" as the rest of the world uses the term.

Again, China is laughable thinking it can "tell" the United States what it should do. What a joke of a country,

11 ( +17 / -6 )

What Miller means is that the US will remain neutral only as long as China complies with international law. So stop playing "ding dong ditch" all the time.

14 ( +16 / -2 )

First-off, as Miller stated, U. S. A. has no stance on the islands, does not egg on Japan, and has told both sides to use diplomacy.

China knows fully well that U. S. A. has a contractual agreement to protect Japan, so it’s entirely up to them whether or not U. S. A. becomes a 3rd party. Not too tough to figure that out, China!
