What makes Japan think that China would live up to the terms of the FTA?

Sorry just a guy, but I think I have to agree this time with JN, Jared?

china only cares about china, the us is forced to manipulate currency because of this. Japan has had to many times as well.

I think the reason the USA has not invited China to the TPP in the first place is to make some kind of balance of power, both economic and political to counter balance the growing economic and political power that China is day by day achieving, and if I know many of my Asian amigos, well, they have had thousands of years of disputes with China so they understand what China is capable in Asia, just look at what they are doing to the poor folk of Tibet.

China has too many rules to sign away FTAs with major economies.

Last call to 'Ark Noah' in asia, you know the TPP is just Obama's little re-election campaign! By the way, America's chaos will lead to further chaos as the infights continue in capitol hill!

The US and Chinese governments are both currency manipulators, you know. The US is no saint either, but that is a different issue.
Trade agreements like TPP provide the most benefits for the countries pushing them by giving their industries an edge over the domestic ones. Who knowd how it could affect Japan's economy.

It makes me sick with rage every time I read a news like this. Definitely No, no and no!

SK would be nuts to do this deal, since they know both China and Japan would cheat like crazy on it anyway. Neither one has any real intention of truly opening their markets. And they'd always be the third-wheel in it. Besides, SK just approved an FTA with the U.S., so they need to absorb the impact of that first.

Japan should let this talk with China to die. There is no more deal wth a currency manipulator China. No further talks with China, period.
Firetribe
Say no to all trade deals until Japan can get it's economic house in order.

These days, there are so many so called FTA memberships 'recruiting' new members.. The race to be members of all clubs / unions / associations seem to be the tricks for survival. Singapore is probably the champion in 'collecting' these memberships..

Since China owns huge cash and products of cheaper cost, China should allow all countries free trade access to China without conditions. No need to worry so much and waste time to discuss this or that...
PT24881
It sounds 'stupid' for China to advocate such FTA agenda..wait a minute ! But it would be equally 'stupid' for SK & Japan to overlook this opportunity -- just put all the cards on the table ? ( rare earth, deep sea oil fields etc.. ) . The likely scenario would be : SK will respond hastily to it, Japan will be forced to join afterward in fear of losing out the SKoreans..

It was something to see the expressions of Obama in meeting with his Chinese counterpart at the ASEAN summit. Obama always had this look of like "boy your the hot seat now, what are going to pull to try and get out of this one? And, I think I'll let you fry for a little while, to see how you like it." it was priceless, if you dont belive me, go dig it up for your selves and look. It will be worth it. As for this Idea, i dont think there is much to be said, its just not going to happen right now, with the economies like they are. Ten years ago, if this would have happened, Nobel Peace prizes might have handed out and there would have been parades in the streets. Now, it just doesnt favor anyone for this to go through, they can study it till they are blue in the face. Besides this, the timing is way off, and it sounds like some mean joke. China needs to clear alot of hurdles to even hope for such an FTA, and a truly benefical one for all parties at that. If they do however, Copenhagen, and the confetti are always on hand. Although, China may bypass Copenhagen. Peace on the seven seas.

This should be under "Jokes" somewhere.

Let's just say no, China always thinks about themselves, and themselves only
