If you truely believe what you have wrote then why don't you petition within your own country to take the case to ICJ?

The same countries that attacked Japan in 1274 continue to "lash out" at Japan. What's happening now is nothing more than Yuan Dynasty 2.0.

How about all parties sitting down and considering joint development projects and collaborations

Don't think the US will allow it to happen. If the US wants to continue to keep Japan as its protectorate, then it will have to keep these territorial disputes alive. In fact, these territorial disputes were very much created by the US government after the beginning of the cold-war in order to make Japan totally isolated by its neighbors and remains helpless and fully dependent on the US.

By the way, Hatoyama was near to reaching agreement on some joint development projects with Hu in the east China sea a few years ago. That's probably one of the reasons why the US became very angry with him and he had to resign and even retire as a result.

In order to be able to continue to keep Japan as its protectorate, the US not only must keep Japan totally isolated but it will also has to ensure that there will be no major war between Japan and China or Japan and Russia.

Japan can prove sovereignty of the Senkakus as far back as 1895, and Takeshima was occupied forcefully by South Korea.

Japan only managed to colonize Korea (including the Dokdo islands) and Taiwan (including the Diaoyu islands) in 1895 following its victory over China towards the end the the 1894-1895 war of invasion. According to the Potsdam Declaration (terms of surrender for Japan), all these stolen lands must be returned as part of the settlement for WWII or Japan must face utter destruction.

The routes of the 1894-1895 Japanese invasion can be seen here:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d9/First_Sino-Japanese_War.svg

Everyone can see that China is attempting to change the status quo by force. They're taking advantage of Japan's pacifist constitution, knowing that they can provoke Japan without having to worry about them declaring war.

If Japan dares to go to war with China or Russia to settle these already resolved "territorial disputes", it will only end up with 2 choices, unconditional surrender or prompt and utter destruction (atomic bombs) as pronounced in the Potsdam Declaration.

Even the South Koreans are prepared to fight to death with the Japanese to defend their Dokdo islands. But then the US will never allow Japan to go to war with the Chinese, Russians or even South Koreans in the first place lest they lose their protectorate and many of their important bases in Asia.

If they don't like the report, they can take their respective claims to ICJ

Since these territorial disputes have already been settled with the 2 atomic bombs and the various WWII peace treaties/ agreements between Japan and the Allied. Japan will have to comply with these peace treaties/ agreements if it does not want to restart WWII. These peace treaties/ agreements include:

The San Francisco Peace Treaty Article 2 (c)

Japan renounces all right, title and claim to the Kurile Islands...

Article 3

Japan will concur in any proposal of the United States to the United Nations to place under its trusteeship system, with the United States as the sole administering authority, Nansei Shoto south of 29 deg north latitude (i.e. including the Ryukyu Islands but excluding the Diaoyu/Senkaku islands)...

Article 8 of the Potsdam Declaration (terms of surrender for Japan):

"The terms of the Cairo Declaration shall be carried out and Japanese sovereignty shall be limited to the islands of Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, Shikoku and such minor islands as we (US, UK, China and Russia) determine."

The Japanese Instrument of Surrender:

"We, acting by command of and in behalf of the Emperor of Japan, the Japanese Government and the Japanese imperial General Headquarters, hereby accept the provisions set forth in the declaration issued by the heads of the Governments of the United States, China and Great Britain on 26 July 1945, at Potsdam, and subsequently adhered to by the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, which four powers are hereafter referred to as the Allied Powers.

The 1972 China-Japan treaty:

"The Government of Japan fully understands and respects this stand of the Government of the People's Republic of China, and it firmly maintains its stand under Article 8 of the Potsdam Proclamation."

@Frungy american pax means empire and americans managed a military empire that blocked ambition of soviet empire for 50 years and many countries in europe and korea and japan must thanks US that they have democratic government and not gang families. The decline of american might means new wars by powers that use nationalism to gain advantage by other countries like Russia by Ukraine,China by Japan,NK by SK. People that denounce american power must knows that they promoting a new 1938.

Jeez, I'm getting a little tired of China and South Korea getting pissed off whenever Japan sneezes. Also, Korea wants to be so far up China's ass its ridiculous.

Oh shut up China, South Korea. Like you have valid claims to those islands anyway.>

Exactly.

With President Obama visiting Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and the Philippines at the end of April the language was never going to tactful or diplomatic, blue book or not.

Japanese Ambassador to South Korea Koro Bessho genuinely believes that the relationship with South Korea can still be mended, despite the uphill struggle over the disputed Islands.

As President Obama visit draws closer expect more of the same harsh and aggressive diplomacy. .

Agree with boweevil, at least sit down and move forward with shared interests all sides can agree with.

All Japans foreign desk is good at is dishing out a few zillions.

Will not work in the neighbourhood.

Cherishing the status quo religiously is just waiting for the next tsunami.

I really wish I could snap my fingers & make all three go away & in its place one big country, getting along among all 3 & NK would just vanish, wouldn't that be nice!

Yes, wouldn't it be nice to just let "North Korea" vanish altogether. Can't be helped anymore anyway, right? What kind of nihilistic joke are you? The only thing in Asia that has to become "one (minus big) country" again is Korea since it is one country/nation (and yet we are far from abolishing the concept of nations -- fact is, they usually work the best and you could never unite Koreans, Japanese or, even worse, Chinese -- the attempts to doing so led to this situation in the first place!), but this whole Kindergarten about some stupid rocks and past issues clouds the region's real problems. As usual.

"But the paper on Friday added that Japan would try to improve the thorny relations with ChinaAsia's two biggest economies, sure responsibility in Asia and beyond."

Yep sound like this must be the new policy to do the job

All three countries are digging their own graves in all this BS, they are ALL in the wrong in varying degrees at any point in time, Japan reaps what its sown wrt history etc & continues to BS to this day, China is off its frigging rocker claiming almost the entire ocean in SE Asia & SKorea while it has points is mostly whining like a damned baby!!

So far China looks set to cause the most trouble but idiot abe also wants to keep stirring things up. The US must at times want to just pick up & leave these bunch of fools & watch the fireworks. Sad thing is that will lead to a lot of death & suffering all round.

I really wish I could snap my fingers & make all three go away & in its place one big country, getting along among all 3 & NK would just vanish, wouldn't that be nice!

Japan should learn how to divide China and South Korea.

Japan should change its formulation from "Takeshima is Japan's territory" to "Japan has a claim on Takeshima (Dokto in Korean) but the islands are effectively being controlled by South Korea".

Japanese textbooks and diplomats should take every opportunity to steer the topic away from who owns what into who is trying to use force to change what.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Yawn.

Another day, another bickering from SK and China.

14 ( +19 / -5 )

Looks like Japan criticized everyone but itself and its friends. The response is not really a surprise.

The double standards on both sides reek to high heaven. They are all incapable of self criticism. They are all pathetic and childish. They all need to be whipped and sent to bed without supper. Then an adult needs to come make a decision what toys belong to who.

@Jay Que: "Malicious accusations being thrown at an undemocratic often brutal communist regime that has multiplied its GDP spending on an offensive military posture aimed at is closest neighbors? Gosh

That definition is becoming increasingly apt for more than one country in East Asia-even interchangeable... How does a communist dictatorship become the world's second largest economy? It is a dictatorship to be sure, but there must a lot of capitalism in the mix to be sure. No adherence to the rule of law is a question of degrees... Japan, a country that is culturally unique in its adherence to the concept of the 'collective' is moving closer to the very things it despises about China.

Oh shut up China, South Korea. Like you have valid claims to those islands anyway. Japan can prove sovereignty of the Senkakus as far back as 1895, and Takeshima was occupied forcefully by South Korea. Neither of them have a leg to stand on. It's not like this report is a load of bs anyway. Everyone can see that China is attempting to change the status quo by force. They're taking advantage of Japan's pacifist constitution, knowing that they can provoke Japan without having to worry about them declaring war. If they don't like the report, they can take their respective claims to ICJ, lose, and then shut the Hell up.

I need you pleads the tiny mouse Schizo Abe to America. Funny the just issued blue book does not identify Russia. It would certainly become more interesting when Russia also get into the pucture. Can America handle all three at the same time? Better to get rid of the mouse that has been creating all the trouble and bring peace back.

To make the two nations quite, suggest to resolve the issue at ICJ. LoL

Lash away, Lash...Backlash...Lash..Backlash...

How about all parties sitting down and considering joint development projects and collaborations that could maximize the use of multiple technologies and approaches, while simultaneously enhancing the economic and political stability in the entire region?

That would be asking far too much of the current leadership in Northeast Asia I suppose. One can only dream...

Let's argue about history, and what belongs to who, and try and court public opinion and political support from the other side of the world instead...

Yuki NomoseApr. 05, 2014 - 09:19AM JST End of american pax effect and turning back to old nationalist issues of XIX century.

What American Pax effect? You mean like war in Afghanistan, was in Iraq, war in Somalia, war in Vietnam, China seizing islands near the Philippines.... I could go on, but this last 60 years of "Pax Americana" have only really seen peace for North America. You've been reading too much U.S. propaganda if you seriously believe in Pax Americana.

A problem won't come to its peaceful settlement on its own. They should have reliable third party to judge like the International Court of Justice.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

They are saying everything on their minds against Japan without any restraint. Why? Because they know the Japanese peace constitution prohibits uses of military power in settling international frictions. We have to change our constitution so that we can show our mustles.

CrazyJoe: "One ought to remember the old adage that when you treat someone like an enemy, sooner or later he or she will act like one."

That goes for all parties. Another adage is "Do unto others what you wish to be done unto you", but I don't really see one party out of these three doing unto others what it demands be done for them.

Look at the smirk on the Japanese ambassador's face. He must be so proud of himself representing the wrong side of history.

-18 ( +11 / -29 )

Almost as bad as Japanese politicians crying over individual states in the US recognizing South Korea's name for a body of water. All a bunch of children... and all over names for rocks and water.
