What irony? One lie is as good as another when you choose to live in fear and ignorance, right?

Aint that the truth, Klein. But I seriously don't know how/why the citizens put up with these uyoku and their noise pollution. I'd love to do a test and see if the average Joe can hire a van and double-park in the main street, speakers blaring with insults, whilst 3 world leaders are a couple of km's away!

"Really Miyagi was also hard hit? uh didnt know (sic)... basically it was by magnitudes worse off compared to Fukushima."

Kudos. 15000 people confirmed dead up the coast and all anyone cares about is a guy having a heart attack in Fukushima. It is a travesty of the press.

I have been blown away by the terrible terrible sensationalism of the coverage of this for the last two months. The domestic press have taken their cues from foreign news and foreign agendas. The lowly Kahoku Shimpo has provided by far the best coverage of this whole disaster. If anyone wants to do real research and use a real timeline with factual information, that little local paper towers above any national or international coverage I have seen.

And, uh... I thought that the Aussie PM was here weeks ago, right? Did she not count or something. Someone set me straight there.

Have to say it was great that they visited the shelters too. Viewed the most cynical way possible, I think they figured "better late than never". As far as I can see, all that is left is politics and social workers. All the crisis and desperation is gone. Things got boring long ago.

"Sad to say this, but ironically I walked past one of the right-wing vans this afternoon (in Fukushima city mind you), spewing out hatred and bile toward Korea and China."

I just saw report of the visit on NHK. I was totally blown away. It was a great gesture and great that they visite the evacuation shelters.

I wonder how the 3 of them communicate at the same time. Two translators for each leaders?

This article if read at face value kind of presents some glaring errors of either written/translated nature or just basic understanding of the disaster.

"It was the first time foreign leaders have visited the city since the tsunami knocked out the plant’s cooling systems, leading to radiation leaks and the evacuation of tens of thousands of residents"

Really?

"Before meeting the victims of the nuclear accident in the afternoon, Wen and Lee traveled separately to areas in Miyagi Prefecture, also hard hit by the 9.0 magnitude quake and ensuing tsunami."

Really Miyagi was also hard hit? uh didnt know (sic)... basically it was by magnitudes worse off compared to Fukushima.

Also, yawn, in the run up to this meeting there was the usual toys out of pram moments from these neighbours about where to hold the talks.

How messed up.

Agree with the above posters - these two leaders are demonstrating that their people are concerned and want to help their Japanese cousins. Sad to say this, but ironically I walked past one of the right-wing vans this afternoon (in Fukushima city mind you), spewing out hatred and bile toward Korea and China. Coincidence or planned, I don't know, but I looked at the pathetic grubs in the van and just shook my head.

I'm really impressed that the two leaders went directly to the earthquake zone. The symbolism is great.

HOPEFULLY they can see the devastation and try to get a feeling for the real suffering that's going on and, political issues aside, offer more humanitarian assistance. The people suffering have nothing to do with island spats or history books. Help them out.

When we find our common humanity, our own fragility and work together, nationality, creed and politics account for nought. Let's see if the common ground found between these leaders can be built 'out and up from'. What a better place this part of the world would be for it.
