The world’s second and third largest economies China and Japan can play a strong role in the world system. Also, Japan was under attack from United States army until US army throw two nuclear bombs in two cities of Japan so it is the time for Japan which is from the top economies and China is from the top military can change the world by ASIA Union (AU) like Europe Union (EU).

@cramp

'jp is no different"

It is different. How many Chinese people got attacked in Japan due to the island disputes ? I will give you a hint, zero

A bunch of Japanese people in China got attacked and harrassed at public places since the island disputes. China stopped imports from Norway after they gave nobel prize to the chinese activist, and now they are doing the same with Vietnam, Fillipines and 50 other counties.

Again, Japan is no saint but we aren't as bad as China. Not sure why it's so hard for you to understand this simple fact. What country are you from ? I bet I can list a bunch of negative things about your country

why talk, you asked ? This is what people call chilling and negotiation. Or rather you prefer a war to get the whole thing over with ?

There is more to this game then folks understand.

This has little to do with the islands and more to do with control of a free trade area that the PRC is trying to get with Korea.

Look into it you may get a surprise.

I for one think the Free Trade Agreements help to undermine a nations sovereignty and damage their economies by destroying their Mom and Pop companies.

Yes, it is different. Japan isn't utopia, but we definitely have better relations with other countries than China.

you mean like how jp also has island disputes with tw, russia, china, korea...? jp is no different, disputes with all her neighbors

China continues to act like a bully because it is a bully. That they keep trying to claim they have some claim to the islands that now legally belong to Japan is just idiotic. Facts are Facts. No matter how much they complain and try to make this an issue, it is a non issue. They ..China, do NOT own the islands. Japan owns then. For Japan to surrender them is not going to happen nor should it. International law, maitime Law, and common sense all are on the side of Japan.

The more China drags this out, the more damage they will cause to themselves.

"And Japan is different?"

Yes, it is different. Japan isn't utopia, but we definitely have better relations with other countries than China.

There seems to be a misconception among some of the posters on this site that a country as large and powerful as China has to do anything the rest of the world thinks it should. When you are in China's position, you take a sip of tea and glance out the window at the lapdogs yapping in the back yard and decide which one you are going to toss a bone too today. If the rest of the yappers don't like it, there is not a dam thing they can do.

Dog,

You can't really have any meaningful discussion with China.

You've tried, have you?

With all due respect, this reminds me of a doctor telling a patient that a disease is incurable.

It isn't true to say that ANY disease is incurable, but it would be true for the doctor to admit that HE personally didn't know how to cure it.

I'm sure there is a way to communicate to the Chinese.

Rhino-san,

The Japanese should have a good, honest look at their history and admit where they went wrong.

Totally, totally true. But this would cause major, major waves. A political tsunami. Especially if you include the way Japanese politicians have let the US run Japan since WWII.

China should finally give Tibet its freedom back and start behaving like a responsible member of the global community.

Again, totally, totally true.

But one wonders why the so-called "Free" nations of the world just sat back and let it happen. And why NO ONE said ANYTHING when Tibetans were not allowed to compete in the Beijing Olympics.

Why bother ? You can't really have any meaningful discussion with China. They are like a spoiled little kid who wants everything in his way

And Japan is different?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

The arrogance and thickheadedness of these two countries makes me sick.

The Japanese should have a good, honest look at their history and admit where they went wrong.

China should finally give Tibet its freedom back and start behaving like a responsible member of the global community.

And the WTO should make sure that the safety of direct foreign investment of its member states in China is guaranteed.

They should have another water cannon fight.

Killing and destruction wouldn't solve anything. It would just give the Chinese an excuse to go to the next stage.

But is exactly what China is waiting for - for Japan to slip up and ram/sink a ship, or fire a shot over the bow of a trawler. Let's hope Japan remains cool and does nothing.

I'm pleased there are talks happening in the background. At least there is dialogue.

The best message to the Chinese Communists is to sink one of their ships if enter Japanese waters again and turns it in artificial reefs.

It shows to me that there are many war maniac, plus hypocrites.

issa1,

Looks like you've been watching too many American movies.

Killing and destruction wouldn't solve anything.

It would just give the Chinese an excuse to go to the next stage.

Which we do NOT want.

Transparency and understanding could solve this whole problem.

Yuri,

Why do they bother to talk?

Who knows what happened at the "talks."

Their respective "advisors" might have gotten ready statements for the press way before the actual meeting. Then, when they actually met and the doors were closed, the cocktail cabinet was opened, a sumptuous meal produced and they got the karaoke out.

Who knows?

Best thing for Japan to do is do nothing. These Chinese patrol boats that are going inside the Japan's administered area are breaking the international laws, and these boats are already looking like fools. Every countries that do trade with China is watching the impatient Chinese goverment boats. China has not changed since the 1950's.

Chinese PRC is still playing for time. The best message to the Chinese Communists is to sink one of their ships if enter Japanese waters again and turns it in artificial reefs.

Even for Russians, the advantages of a tactical alliance with China are in fact doubtful. A tenable partner for the exploitation of the Siberian deposits would be Japan. However, the problem with this option is the standoff over the return of the Kurile Islands to Japan. China always showed a marked reluctance for overly warm relations with any one country. Chinese action in the Senkaku/Daioyu Islands and other disputed sea territories makes Russia uneasy. The Russians have no guarantee that Chinese rapprochement will last for a long period of time.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

it's seems there is no progress

2 ( +2 / -0 )

China has become an unreliable trade partner. China plays the nationalist card at its discretion and tacitly fans the flames whenever it is convenient. Time has come for Japan to focus on other areas like Vietnam, India, and other Southeast nations.

11 ( +13 / -2 )

Why do they bother to talk?
