for the first time ever I agree with China. Stop the asian inferiority complex and be productive...

Japan is all about talk. That is how Abe was elected.
thepersoniamnow
Lol, awkward. C’mon guys, we all know humans can trump hate with pure greed. Lets make money.
Akie
Abe should mobilize the whole Japan to welcome Xi, as what Japan did to Deng 40 years ago. When wife and husband unite, amazing thing happens.
Joe
Mmm. Agree cooperation is a good thing, but, China, you beat on about a World War history that was 80 years ago at your convenience, ask for atonement, when the Communist Party has killed millions (fact) of its own people yet shown no atonement if it’s own.
Back to the point, collaboration is a good thing, assuming participants genuinely engaged for good of all and not just national politics.

How nice, coming from a country that has shown nothing but hostility and antagonism towards Japan (and other nations too for that matter). Excursions into contested waters, hostile gesture by jets, etc.

In other words, “I’m gonna polish my butt-cheeks, you put on that lipstick.@

I’m all in favor of Japan’s cooperation with China. But first, China should stop its constant violations of Japanese waters and air space, as well as aggressive military expansion in the South China Sea.

PRC: Japan should seek more cooperation, not competition.
Translation: China wants to dominate Asia and wants all other countries to submit to China's ruthless plans.

Unfortunately, only very a few educated people on this planet would know that Japan and China have long history of friendship, at lease for 2500 years, written in books. Most uneducated people only know recent wars between Japan and China, and describe it as "troubled relationship". Japan and China have huge trade relationships, I don't what trouble is that ?
Ricky Kaminski13
Yep, maybe they ought to stop teaching elementary school students in China that Japanese people always lie and can never be trusted. That might be a start.
Beware a sheep in wolves clothing. China has plans for Japan, long term ones, and a massive score to settle.
Do the hustle
China says Japan should do more to seek cooperation, not competition
I couldn’t agree more to this statement.

@expat. How about going to Africa (the continent not the country) and look on the back of just about every school, road or medical center. You will find a tag, written in English so you can understand...”MADE IN CHINA”.

And China is peddling influence and exploiting resources when the loans aren’t paid in time.
There’s a reason Japanese citizens are advised to disassociate from Chinese when in African countries. When I went to Uganda, Chinese would have rocks thrown at them if they wandered out of their cordon.

The road ahead for a bilateral rapprochement might not be as smooth as one would wish. It may still be bumpy. The caption under the picture above, showing Wang Yi and Taro Kono shaking hands, says they met at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.
The namesake of the guesthouse is the disputed islands' name in Chinese, and, according to the article, Wang asked Kono that "Japan (should) do more to seek cooperation, not competition." Very well, but how would a Chinese delegation to Japan feel if they were invited to a state guesthouse named Senkaku for a dinner?

Never forget with whom we are dealing with in mainland China.
As long as you like Xi's way, great. Don't ever disagree in private or in public.
Sh1mon M4sada
Is there such a thing as private in China?
Sh1mon M4sada
Yes a country with 1.4 billion people, BUT only ONE opinion (about tge past, present, and future).
Sh1mon M4sada
I don't like saying it, because poor people in China also deserve a chance, but, this is the perfect opportunity for Japan to be seeking cooperation of other countries to put Communist controlled China back in the bog hole instead of roaming the seas threatening foreign fishermen and ramming them.
Fillipines, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, even Cambodia or Laos are all keen to be decoupled from China. Step it up Mr Abe and make Japan great again.

zones2surf: ''China wants to dominate Asia and wants all other countries to submit to China's ruthless plans". The US is the greatest dictator on the globe. Washington's policy is do as we say or we will place sanctions on you, topple your government, or invade you. Look at the US actions in the Middle East, Central America, South America, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Cuba Vietnam....
Really time to read some history and not regurgitate American propaganda.

It is China that needs to do more to seek cooperation rather than dominance. It should get smart and let Japan take the lead in any future partnership as it is much more respected around the world than China. It also has a reputation for quality where as China has a reputation for cheap products that fall apart. But I do not think the leadership of China has the intelligence to make the right call.
Peter14
North Korea are a Dictatorship. China is a communist country using capitalism and a Dictatorship to advance the Chinese Communist Party that rules Communist China. You can agree with the majority who see it that way or you can stand in the minority that denies it. Your view will not change what is.
gokai_wo_maneku
We'll see how long it lasts this time. But in the long run, Japan has to join the Chinese economic sphere. Under Trump's "leadership", the US economic sphere is dying. Be realistic, China is the future.
tokyo-star
yes, lets cooperate in the south china sea!
Sh1mon M4sada
What is going with Japanese press these days. Apparently the Chinese side spent 99.9% of the meeting trying to interfere in domestic Japanese security matters, ie don't ban Huawei, yet JT reports China wants cooperation?
So much for non-interference mr Communist China.
Fendy
Subversive intentions - China cannot be trusted. All they want to do is competitively steal in a peaceful and cooperative environment, to further expand their ongoing domination both militarily and politically. War in times of peace.
Halwick
In other words, China wants a free reign to implement their "Belt and Road Initiative" globally without any interference or competition from Japan (or U.S.).
Yes, it is China that needs to seek cooperation. But the world should be wary of China cooperation. The Chinese are also smart enough to let Japan (or the U.S.) take the lead and risk in opening new markets and then sneaking in and undercutting them, coupled with promises of investments and infrastructure improvement through the "Belt and Road" program.
Any country that is lured into being a part of the "Belt and Road" should be wary. The real underlying intent of the Belt and Road program is to provide China with the raw material logistics and resources for their military. China should not be underestimated or viewed as "benevolent".
