Yes, lets hope for a new understanding and trust to develop between China and Japan.

Hopefully Japan never decides to really militarize again since that would instantly cause an air of distrust between China and Japan to occur. I think China's worst fear is a nuclear or militaristic Japan since Japan's military past is devastating for all other asian countries in the region.

The trust between an equal is very different to the trust between a wolf and a chicken. Japan should become powerful and share responsibility in keeping world peace.

Yukio Hatoyama's son is a Russian university graduate, this means Japan ties with Russia/China will get better.

The odds of Japan "remilitarizing; as in going back to a military controlled imperialist power, are far less than China becoming a democracy. Oddly Japan's troops are already welcomed throughout Asia other than China and Korea for assistance with disaster relief. China is the one that democratic Asian nations see as the threat. A good relationship with Japan can only help China shed some of it's bad image.

china uses japan and the wartime history as leverage, leverage for money (since china is still only just "developing"), for politics in particular to rally the cause to annex Taiwan don't expect this to go away anytime soon

Gavin McCormack has just offered a excellent piece called called The Elephant on the Tatami which will soon spell the end of our militaries "occupation" in the Far east - I predict that we will soon leave the entire area and China and Japan will begin to work together. All this has been brought about by the Democratic Party of Japan. Maybe you have already read Gavan's book called "Client State" it is the foundation for this wonderful move.

I will further predict our military will return to the States andthere will be no move to Guam...........

It would be great to see the Far East becoming more open and working together. Hopefully it will bring us visa free visits to Russia and China and more ferry services in the region.
