NEWSFLASH.

The actions and threats of the CCP are stoking division.

Honestly, no one cares much for china's comments on how the united democracies work together. Their propaganda machines can make up the stories to sell to their people.

15 ( +17 / -2 )

So, the joint statement is “far beyond the scope of normal development of bilateral relations?” And China - or any other nation, for that matter - is the arbiter of what is normal international relations and what is not? Umm . . . no.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

“These matters [Xinjiang, Taiwan and Hong Kong] bear on China’s fundamental interests and allow no interference. We express strong concern and firm opposition to relevant comments in the Joint Leaders’ Statement,"

Actually the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (China is a party) is the relevant fundamental interest, with regard at least to Xinjiang.

It is the opinion of international legal experts that the suffering of the Uighurs in the hands of the C.C.P. is actus reus of the crime of genocide.

What will be key here is reporting and recording the unfolding tragedy. Work such as the work of Japan Today, that covers and exposes systematic rape and torture in Xinjiang is vital evidence of atrocities that must be reserved. In fact, all evidence of biological and social destruction (neigh, extermination) that doesn’t fall neatly within the four corners of the 1948 definitions must nevertheless be recorded and reported. The international community, under norms of international law, shall be the judge.

Journalists: Keep up the good work.

Why wont China just shut up for once? Japans (excellent) relationship with the USA is none of their business.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

The only thing worse than China's actions are their ridiuclous arguments.

10 ( +13 / -3 )

China claims self-governing Taiwan as its territory and says, like Hong Kong, it should be under Beijing’s control.

Taiwan has never been at any moment under the communist control. Likewise, the birth of ROC predates that of the PRC. Judging from modern historical developments, it may be plausible to claim that the mainland China is a "renegade province" trying to break away from Taiwan.

Despite this, I'd now suggest that Taiwan allow the communist militant regime to become independent. Taiwan should also drop and give away its naming rights of "China" to Beijing so that "One China" policy will stand, and Taiwan is not China.

China is correct to object to the divisive statements of Biden and Suga.

It is ironic that Biden, who ran on a platform of unity, is promoting division in Asia.

It is hypocritical of Biden to pretend to care about human rights but ignore the pressing issue of human rights in Myanmar, the number one human rights issue in Asia today.

There is no threat to Japan concerning Taiwan.

The real threat to the Japanese people is a revival of militarism encouraged by the United States.

China (if trump was a country) is stoking division.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

China is just trying to give itself the opportunity to go to greater military posturing before they declare that they own everything...

China says U.S.-Japan actions are stoking division

Hahahahahaha!

Yeah, right, because obviously China's actions are in no way divisive at all. Or belligerent, or arrogant, or aggresive, or threatening, or rapacious, or hostile, or .....

Thank you.

Maybe China doesn't manufacture mirrors. They don't know what they look like.

Sayoku, I'm sure Biden is concerned about the atrocities in Myanmar, but having just got his new job, he's still settling into it and getting to grips with larger issues of more international importance, none more so than China's deteriorating relationships with its neighnours, with the U.S., and just about every other country offended by its expansionist manoeuvres. Myanmar's military regime's activities, whilst causing international offence, have very local ramifications.

*Strongly support your stance here @Skeptical 6:56am against “the Chinese government’s” continued violations of human rights and the need for worldwide public attention to their atrocities.*

But, perhaps the “hard reporting” ‘accolades’ should go to the actual sources: AP, Reuters, etc for their ‘research & reporting’. (Today is more of an aggregate, “info-tainment” site, oft using ‘newsvertising’, PR and ‘press releases’ in their presentations.) - So, we will see in the days ahead what’s will be reported, deleted, moderated or omitted from the ‘news’.

*- “What will be key here is reporting and recording the unfolding tragedy.” Work such as the work of Japan Today, that covers and exposes systematic rape and torture in Xinjiang is vital evidence of atrocities that must be preserved. The international community, under norms of international law, shall be the judge.” -*

Journalists” [should] Keep up the ‘good work’.

China says? Who cares?

5 ( +6 / -1 )

China says...

That line has always been a joke, and for good reason.

Now its simply a threat from a nation who is routinely threatening many of its neighbors.

This just in: Supposedly the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said today that  the "U.S. and Japan are actually ganging up to form cliques and fanning bloc confrontation." I am awaiting confirmation from a reliable source that will be safe for my web browser. If confirmed . . . gangs . . . cliques . . . blocs?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

i am very much afraid that after his domestic blunders this is now an international policy mistake by Suga. I fear he agreed to comply with all the Americans wanted in exchange for a confirmation on the Senkaku protection .

the Chinese could react by pulling out of the Olympics to start with under the covid cover. They have been preparing as they have not send Chinese athletes anywhere pulling out of testevents and the ongoing figureskating team event. The one gym event they attended in Japan they send athletes in full protective gear.

they would not mind Japan pulling out of the Beijing games which is likely to happen anyway if the US does.

i support any action against against the China under Xi but just saying China will react to Japans comments. We all have to stop China now.

China has no right to speak.

The Chinese people need to take back the government and let the current regime die.

China has lost all creditability in all the world and is the worlds biggest threat to freedom.

Look what they are doing in Philippians and other places in the world with it's insatiable greed and hunger.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

And creating a global pandemic that has killed millions and commuting genocide against Muslims in your own country is the work of angels?

why is the world not boycotting anything and everything Chinese?

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Media coverage of the Suga and Biden meeting is completely different in Japan and the United States. In Japan it is top news. In the United States it is not in the headlines. Some news networks did not cover it at all.

Why is this? It was Biden's first big international meeting!

Many Biden supporters would not be happy to realize he is pursuing an aggressive and divisive policy towards China that is similar to the policy of Trump.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

The human rights issue in the US concerning black/Latino/people of colour is atrocious.

Unlike China the matters of bigotry, discrimination and racism are openly discussed and are the subject of public legislative debates. Differences of opinion exist and there are many in the US that are openly racist, but the rest of the people of America are quite free to call the racists out for what they are and to press for laws that are aimed at redressing racism past and present. In China no such discussions occur and anyone who brings the subject up is jailed. The US is not perfect and hasn't lived up to its potential, but its many shortcoming are legally debated in public with no threat from any level of government that criticism will lead to arrest and imprisonment. Some who post here are either blind to this huge distinction, or blatant liars.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Why is this? It was Biden's first big international meeting!

Americans are in general insular and not very interested in those things that do not directly affect their lives.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

If Mr. Xi wishes to know the true source of the division of which he complains, all he needs to do is look in the mirror. He has alienated much of the CCP and many of the nations that were once positively disposed towards China. In the long run Mr. Xi may do more to isolate China than anything the west could do on its own. That may be a good thing too.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Asia will unite, but China won't be behind any of it.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

It is ironic that Biden, who ran on a platform of unity, is promoting division in Asia.

Actually China is the nation promoting division with its unilateral attempts to alter the status quo into it's favor at the expense of others.

It is hypocritical of Biden to pretend to care about human rights but ignore the pressing issue of human rights in Myanmar, the number one human rights issue in Asia today.

It is not being ignored by Biden, but why is China supporting it? That is disgusting but expected behavior from Chinese leadership.

There is no threat to Japan concerning Taiwan.

China is a huge threat to the free and independent Taiwan which is a close neighbor of Japan's. If Taiwan is under threat today, then Japan is tomorrow. A clear need for Japan to be concerned and engaged in the Taiwan issue.

The real threat to the Japanese people is a revival of militarism encouraged by the United States.

The real threat to Japanese people is China's continual building of militarism encouraged by its colonial ambitions of Empire.

A classic case of the pot calling the kettle black. The human rights issue in the US concerning black/Latino/people of colour is atrocious.

So you admit the Kettle (China) IS black, and its actions are also atrocious. Good.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Time for the CCP to accept that China belongs to Taiwan.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

@Noria

. Judging from modern historical developments, it may be plausible to claim that the mainland China is a "renegade province" trying to break away from Taiwan.

No. Though, It's true that the KMT party took over after the Xing hai revolution of 1912. Was ousted by the Mao revolution and fled to Formosa/ Taiwan, where they formed a govt under Chiang.

Taiwan's KMT was said to have been the "legitimates without a country", thus, it lost the UN seat in 1971 to PRC.

The Only thing that stopped Mao taking over Taiwan was the US. Pres. Truman threatened to Invade the mainland and nuke it. That consideration stopped Mao.

Isn't it ironic that the party that took over after the Xing hai revolution of 1912, the KMT, is now the one advocating a softer approach to PRC when the DPP of Tsai is the radical one ?

China again reiterated its stance on Xinjiang, Taiwan and Hong Kong, all of which it considers domestic matters.

Hong Kong and Taiwan are no domestic matters of China. Only Xinjiang and the New territories of Hong Kong are.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

The rest of the world would like very much to get along with China, but Xi is hell-bent on a policy of bullying his neighbors.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Have anyone ever heard of iijime or hate crimes in China??? . The Chinese are not interested in all these old methods of old ways of playing politics. The Chinese want to go forward and America and Japan is afraid, that all there is to this. Waste of precious time and tax payers money.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

The fact of the matter is China is well aware of the political theater it is operating in — that the US is the dominant player by far and that the only responses China can make are statements of condemnation and warnings, which the US and Japan ignore as frivolous.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

China should concentrate on internal affairs - like smog, clean energy, toxic waste, having an honest govt of the people, for the people, and by the people while recognizing human rights and the right to self-determination without govt interference.

China should arrest Carrie Lam for crimes against Hong Kong.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

china is going down. America is taking it down. Soon.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

china is going down. America is taking it down

China will in all likelihood fail but it will not be because of anything the US did. China's demographic trends ensure China will struggle and stagnate economically in another decade or so, and the treatment of Jack Ma and the Ant Group will deter budding entrepreneurs in China from being too ambitious in the future knowing the CCP can take it all away on a whim. Many will leave to make their fortunes elsewhere in nations where their wealth is protected.

Have anyone ever heard of iijime or hate crimes in China???

Yes. Africans living in China had to flee due to attacks on them during the pandemic. The Chinese were accusing the Africans of spreading the disease around. The situation was particularly bad in Guangzhou.

Typical CCP propaganda.

No one with half a brain believes what the Chicoms have to say.

Japan and US should leave China alone. which many of its issues are China internal affairs, and none of the west/Japan business, you don't go to your neighbour and tell them what to do. don't be nosy and poke your nose everywhere.
