There isn't any "Taiwan issue."

There is only a CCP-Chinese issue with Taiwan.

Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea should work together to form an alliance for economic and military support with each other like France and Germany have. There is much to love about all three countries and only together can they make a positive impact on average Chinese citizens and a not-so-great impact on the CCP-Chinese.

Given that Biden was elected and the the US’ influence to totalitarian countries in Asia could weaken,

It’ll be important for Japan to more strongly allies with domestic countries. Hopefully become a leader in the Indian pacific region.

Quad and Blue Dot Network would be very effective

How Japan, or any other country relates to Taiwan is an internal matter. China can just go stuff it.

Doubt South Korea has any interest in standing up to China. They won't even participate in FON exercises.

Stay out of it Japan.

I would never walk into a redneck hillbilly confederate-state Biker bar with a naive young Chinese girlfriend named Suga(r).

sit on the fence and trade with both China’s.

It will take official contact by many nations with Taiwan before the situation can change and Taiwan can get the international inclusion it deserves.

Japan should mind their own business.

Keeping the west Pacific Rim peaceful is the only thing Taiwanese, as well as Japanese and Korean I believe, need.

China needs to say to themselves - "China is wary of China".

Not only are they not saying that to themselves, they aren't saying that to anybody. They aren't saying it to Italy, Brazil, Spain, etc. They might not be saying it to Chinese covid-19 pos people either.

Is the Coronavirus their population troubles answered prayers?

They didn't seem to mind sharing Covid-19 with the international community. I wonder if Xi has any regret or remorse for the damage to other international communities...

Anyway, I don't expect an apology any time soon so I'd like to thank my conscientious neighbors here and abroad who have had to trudge through this mess and for their sincere well wishes.

I am becoming very fond of the hand sanitizers, I love the stuff. I was considering bathing in it with a friend. No more soaplands only sanitizerlands. A newfound love.

After becoming defense minister, Kishi has said he will deal with the Taiwan issue in accordance with a joint communique signed in 1972 between then Japanese Prime Minister Kakuei Tanaka and then Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai.

The communique stipulates China "reiterates that Taiwan is an inalienable part of the territory" of it and Japan "fully understands and respects this stand."

How can Nobuo Kishi be super friendly to Taiwan with such a very da-kine kowtoing statement?

Japan is treatin TW like a simpleton.

The problem here is not China but a Japan that lets Beijing control their foreign affairs which effectively makes Tokyo a province of the PROC.

Taiwan needs to be recognized as its own country COMPLETELY free of China by the international world countries leaders. Let the world decide and from the overwhelming responses see it as such. A free Taiwan is a win win for the world. China CCP cannot rule and should just step back and heed their words; peace. Instead they are the cause of all neighboring countries trouble out there.

„, Yoshihide Suga, tapped Nobuo Kishi, known for his affinity for Taiwan, as defense minister. He is also the younger brother of Suga's predecessor, Shinzo Abe,“

What can go wrong with this kind of inbreeding?

Japan should mind their own business.

Japan IS minding it's own business. It's China that needs to mind it's own business.

in the long term , Japan and China will have to get along in harmony. there is no need for the two to conquer the other. the time has changed way far from the old past. further China and Japan have the same cultural bonds like the Confucius philosophy which is peaceful and torlent.

Regarding China's claim over Taiwan, this is absolute , for be it is CCP or KMT, even DPP whoever was in the position of the ruler of Mainland, definitely will pursue the unity of Taiwan.

Taiwan is super important base for first island chain, if it is given to zhina, then Japan will be vulnerable and most probably become the next target after Taiwan. Together Japan shall work together and rise with Taiwan, because if Taiwan fall down, so will Japan very soon

Taiwan is China's soil and it is definately China's own business! Taiwan is a renegade province just like those "Confederate States" during the American civil war who dont recognize the Soverignity of U.S.!

The Chinese civil war is still ongoing although 70 years has gone!

Any participation of helping that renegade province is an act  of war against China!

Communist China can just shut it. What right do they have to tell Japan how to conduct foreign relations. I hope Kishi is as friendly to Taiwan as his brother, Shinzo Abe. Japan and Taiwan are almost as close as Japan and the US.

Further, I hope Japan builds up more joint military operations with Taiwan, and soon fully recognizes Taiwan diplomatucally.

It is crystal clear that Japan does not need ANY relationship with Communist PRC. Period.

*Japan IS** minding it's own business. It's Chinathat needs to mind it's own business*

China is minding its own business in the same manner that Japan is minding its own business.

You are totally wrong When has Japan ever told China with what country it should or shouldn't have relations with?

Once the Chinese Peoples have been freed of their Shackles to the CCP, then, they will start to realize their true potential within the Global arena without shame.

If Xi JP knows a little bit about Confucius then he should give full diplomatic relation to the Republic of China -Taiwan.

Then peace and prosperity will prevail over war and destruction.

The world will call him a peacemaker instead of a warmonger.

People would then sneer at the USA and Japan for not recognizing Taiwan ahead of China.

He would then be more famous than Trump , Biden and Tyler Herro combined!

They would praise China's centuries of culture and civilization.

Alas and alack, it seems he thinks da-kine Confucius is Korean and not Chinese but believes that Hitler is !

There lies the greatest tragedy of todays China.

So close but yet so far from Confucius!

When China and NK become stable democracies, there won't been any need for military units in that part of the world, well, except to deal with Russia and the US.

Nations around the world can switch the military spending to coast guard, commercial space, and fishing science instead. Imagine how many leaps forward will happen when we stop wasting money on military and go directly at the big problems like sustainable, renewable, power generation, transportation, and fighting climate change instead. I bet China, Japan, Korea would all be leaders in those industries. Japan has been recycling longer than most other countries. They have a huge lead on that, assuming they don't just ship everything to other countries.

You do not understand China, the CCP or Xi Jinping. Number one, were Xi to attempt to do as you say he would be deposed by an inter-party coup he could not possibly defeat. Xi is supremely insecure because he knows he came to power over the heads of several more experienced and more senior party officials as a compromise candidate seen as clean from the corruption so prevalent in the CCP. He is afraid of his enemies and doesn't want to be sent back to the cave he had to live in when he was arrested by the Red Guards after his father fell out with Mao. As a result he has engaged in an old fashioned party purge that would make Stalin or Mao nod their heads with appreciation. He, well everyone in the CCP, are paranoid about "splittists". China was divided up among warlords for too many years before the CCP came to power. They are determined to crush even a hint of independence from Beijing. Why do you think a nation as vast as China has only one official time zone, Beijing Time. China should have five time zones but even having time zones different from that of Beijing is seen as granting too much autonomy to any given region. Xi and all the members of the Central Committee are well aware of the old saying "This is China, the mountains are tall and the Emperor is a long way away" used to explain how local officials were so often able to free lance and create corrupt local fiefdoms outside the control of the ruling dynasty. The CCP isn't going to let any region freelance like the old days and create a power base that could challenge the power in Beijing.
