Chinese media claim victory after Japan agreement

This is the same as claiming that you have just won a stalemate chess match!

highball7Nov. 09, 2014 - 12:46PM JST Any one who is not hating on China

This is what most people on living in the far left camp just don't get. We don't hate China, we love the history of China more than the Communist revisionist who tried to destroy it under Mao.

Now, as for Emperor Xi and his attempt to combat corruption. If he was really trying to combat corruption he would do so, but what he is trying to do is an old style Mao purge of his enemies and that is going over like a lead ball.

His last speech showed that he is in a life or death struggle against his opponents. Now, if I were to say that about a Western politician I would be using that as a metaphor. But, we are talking about a politician within a Communist regime and it means he is really fighting a life or death struggle!

When you live your life in a totalitarian hellhole you have to fight to survive.

would say what Xi is doing is a great thing for China and its people. Combating corruption is great. Although their methods are questionable as a long term fix. They need check and balance on their own party and gov't. Until they develop such, all these actions are temporary fix.

Its never cookies and cream in China. Ever. If you look at the CCP, its always about infighting. Technically if you look at the CCP as a nation, then its really comprised of a bunch of different parties, left, middle, right. The only thing common is common survival. That's the commie's way.

Xi, since Deng has complete power in China. There is no popcorns. He's the most powerful Chinese leader since Deng Xiaoping. ALL of the PLA are his men. More accurately, his father and mentor's men and their descendants in the PLA system. They are all loyal to Xi's factions. There is one goal for Xi, the pavement for a China Dream. People without any knowledge about China always think its bs. Its not. Its the most important principle in China since Deng's get rich and be prosperous. The accomplishment of a China Dream is a mandate. They definitely got this from American Dream. Being middle class, having good education, and healthcare and a powerful nation that can defend itself. This is very different that the communists or socialists "dream" that the Soviets had.

TAK Ooishi= I believe Senkaku belongs to Japan 100%< November 9, 2014 6:10 P.M JST Let me remind you of this historical fact; Imperial Meiji government instructed Okinawa Prefectural government to go and survey Senkaku Islands in 1885 to see if it was no man's land no other country owned as you mentioned and came back to report to the home government that it was. And the Okinawa prefectural government suggested to the Japanese Central government that a stone monument be put up right away to mark Japan's territorial soveringty over the islands but the Foreign Ministry authorities turned it down, saying that was not the right time. It was only in February 1895 when the Japanese government took steps to annex the islands into Okinawa after three attempts to do so, according to Wada Haruki. Just think Japan signed the peace treaty with Qing China in Simonoseki only two months later. That was when Japan was so sure of its victory over China. What would you make out of the long time--ten years- Japan took to get the islands annexed into Ishigaki? This is where your "Senkaku belongs to Japan 100%" claim should be open to debate. The long delay in the annexation might have meant Imperial Japan was aware China had territorial claim, since Madam Dragon had given part of the islands to one of her medical doctors for the effort he haad taken to travel to Senkaku to gather gao li shen for her illness.

Nigelboy,

Agreeing to DISAGREE is a cave. Meaning one side is acknowledging THERE IS A DISPUTE! The original position is Japan would yield ANYTHING, not even an acknowledgement on the issue. That is Abe's position. No one can deny anything otherwise.

No matter what anyone says, Japan will always sticks to its own claims. No matter what anyone says, China will always sticks to its own claims. Neither side is saying we give up. But Abe has LONG been saying this isn't even an ISSUE. That there is nothing to discuss or contend.

Thereby, the point of contention is, is there a dispute? And does Japan acknowledge that there is an issue with the stance from both sides on these islands!

Agreeing to disagree is one form of that acknowledgment. Clearly, the first point has not been addressed. HOWEVER, the second issue has been addressed.

When one side lowered its standard, that side caved. China still maintains its position on this dispute. And all China asked for is an acknowledgement of the dispute and recognize there is a dispute.

Japan did not address the dispute issues BUT acknowledged that both sides AGREED to disagree. Japan caved in. How can anyone not understand that?

What is your problem?

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Huh? How did China cave in? China's stance has always been agree to disagree in the dispute of the islands? That's the same stance they took with Taiwan, agree to disagree. How is that any different? This isn't an agree to disagree on the sex slave or shrine visits. The latter is completely dependent on Japan's own actions on moral and ethical principles which this Abe administration has none as well as many of the right wing Neo-cons.

How? Big time. Japan has and will maintain the same stance which is "there is no dispute" in regards to Senkakus. Japan will not promise China that their officials will not visit Yasukuni in the future. Two conditions that Xi had outlaid. Xi blinked.

The Chinese fishing boats get kickback from the military to act as surveillance in SCS. I don't see any different in ECS. Their intention is definitely not just fishery but something more.

This is what I always say, if its international water, not including economic zone since US doesn't care for one, then your actions is fine if not attacking or stealing from someone else's sovereignty. IF Chinese fisher boats are looting inside of Japan maritime territories, then have your law enforcement take legal actions against them. Arrest them, confiscate, fine, whatevers. If they resist violently and causing harm to LE, then apply reasonable force.

Mexico often infringes on our fishing rights as well as Cuba. You don't hear us complaining about it. Just have the appropriate agency take care of the problem.

However if the region is disputed, then have your foreign ministry apply the appropriate actions. Why fuzz about it? The Koreans and Chinese have their dispute as well. SO do the Filipinos and Vietnamese. Same with Taiwan and Japan. Its not just China v Japan issue. Many nations have this problem.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

It is understood that Chinese use fishing boats that use a trawl net or dragnet to catch. The net extends to 1 kilometer length. They catch not only coral but also tuna, squid and mackerel etc. Japan and other parts of the world prohibit the use of this fishing method. In order for them to harvest a great amount of fish they use fish collecting lamp and catch in one fell swoop by pumping them in. Apart from illegal fishing and pirate fishing, one big global problem is the world faces crisis of losing young fish, a very important resource. So they even do NOT care about natural resource management. It is reported that in some other part of the world like Korean Sea and Africa, they normally observe a group of more than 280 fishing boats in their own EEZ.

There is NO question Japan caved. China didn't care for any meeting with Japan. Xi said so publicly. Xinhua published that publicly. WSJ published it. WP published it. Anyone who can read English can tell you that. Your Japanese media is more biased than ever at this point that no major international outlet really care for at this point. Especially after that NHK fiasco.

And China is the host, how would it looked for Japan if Abe couldn't even get a sit down with the host?

JoeBigs,

If any of you are old enough, read about Khrushchev's visit to US about the kitchen debate. That's the distinctive contrast between US and SU. And its a distinctive difference between Communist China and SU. What Xi is doing isn't even communism. Its... dare I say American. The only popcorns I will share is when I cheer that China turns into somewhat of a model of US. It will be good for everyone. I will cheer for their success unlike how cynical some of you are. Jealousy, pettiness and fear are the reflection of your own personal traits.

Chinese media claim victory after Japan agreement

I always get a good chuckle out of Communist Propaganda.

Emperor Xi wanted to make Japan bend a knee before him by acknowledging that, "the sovereignty of islands also claimed by China is in dispute".

But, all he could get was "acknowledged that different positions exist between them regarding the tensions". LOL talk about taking anything you can to save face!

Playing with words to make it seem that you have a victory isn't a victory.

Next, President Xi will order the Propaganda Department to send out orders to their rally organizers to have as many mass rallies as they can. And the people at these rallies best look and act like they just World War III, because if they don't no one will get paid!

Like I said, I always get a chuckle out of Communist Propaganda!

But, under the surface this was just more proof that Emperor Xi is facing opposition within his elite Communists Politburo. He isn't a happy camper and his friends (enemies) are sharpening their knives. You could read his feelings and fears in the tone of his June 26th Politburo speech.

http://www.scmp.com/news/china/article/1567026/xis-shockingly-harsh-politburo-speech-signals-tensions-over-anti-graft?page=all

http://www.asianews.it/news-en/Xi-Jinping-tells-Politburo,-he-will-fight-corruption-at-the-risk-of-his-life-31829.html

So, all isn't cookies and cream within the fantasy world of Communist China. So, get out your popcorn boys and girls cause things will soon get hot and hairy within Communist China's Politburo!

A dew days ago, "Xinhua pours cold water on idea of Xi-Abe talks: had an article here. I wonder Zi scolded the paper/

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

i think this is a winning of ideas, not a winning of a country or a person or a leader. there is no winner or loser, there are only words that needs to be spoken,,things that needs to be discussed. days when the use of military can rule are all gone (perhaps with the exception of the middle east). i think now is an age of discussion for forming mutual trusts, and with the upcoming APEC meeting..that again provide another chance for Abe and Xi, at least if they really care about their people (and perhaps the region or the world?)

0 ( +1 / -1 )

It seems that Japan's most read newpaper also in sync with Chinese one as well.

If anyonce can read Japanese ref: http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/world/20141108-OYT1T50095.html?from=ytop_main2

That's not what the article states.

It starts with 政権は、日中首脳会談が行われる見通しとなったことに関し、国内の批判をかわそうと世論工作に躍起となっている。

"Since it's likely that Japan-China summit will take place, the Chinese government, in order to prevent criticism from the public have started a series of editorial propaganda..."

This is too funny. China caves in, their media works to camouflage it. Like someone said, what a tool.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

China what an international tool....

@CrazyJoe, sorry to break the news to you.

For Japan to claim those disputed rocks in East China Sea and extract the oil from the bottom sea of therea exclusively is almost impossible without starting an armed conflict, it does not how you slice it or dice it.

Please think some simple questions below:

Can Japan win a war w against China alone ? How much the US would be willing to let its servicemen’s blood flow for those remote rock far away from the American mainland ? Does ukraine theather teach some lessions to Japan? (please don't use the tready as your only defence, thing in that reagard can change when need arise)

Why not to work together to develop the oil-fields to benefit for both Japan and China since time is not on Japan side given its fast-grey population and low birth-rate (both problems are not easy to be solved in decades)

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

The existence of oil in the Senkaku area was confirmed by a series of studies conducted in the past by the Japan Oil Development Corp., ECAFE (Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East, United Nations), and individual groups. These studies have led the Japanese government to believe that at least 15 million tons of oil is trapped in the area. (The U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyu Islands, in its .ordinance No. 27 issued in 1953, stated that the Senkaku, Islands are part of the Ryukyus.)

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Chinese confusionism at its best. Japan extends a handshake China throws a sucker punch. In other words Never trust your enemy even in plain sight.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Well agreeing to disagree is better than starting a war.

But as long as China has her one-party system, the 'media' is the party.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

It seems that Japan's most read newpaper also in sync with Chinese one as well.

If anyonce can read Japanese ref: http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/world/20141108-OYT1T50095.html?from=ytop_main2

Futhermore, if anyone who is not living in denial and delusion would be able to see how many envoys have been sent China to make the pleas, how many delegates do come from Japan's counterpart .

Concession or not aside, peace is more import in this region Here is the thing:, no major economies in the world would be able afford to ignore China, that is the well-recognized fact not a fiction. Japan knows that and already paid huge prices on its mishaps. It's not too late to recup the loss. BTW, next Wed, Obama may spend a whole day to talk with Xi, a Sunnylands-Estate in-California style. Why the US does that ? Opening your eyes to see the reality, please.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Thos Issue will never end. As long as poloticians ecist

1 ( +1 / -0 )

“Now that Japan has agreed to sit down with China to talk about crisis management, it is equal to admitting that the disputes over the Diaoyu Islands’ sovereignty have become the new reality,” the Global Times propaganda dispenser said in an editorial.

Sigh. Does anyone see anything in that comment that would indicate goodwill or even decent intentions?

It was nice that the commies managed to include one of their three favorite phrases ("face history squarely") in the joint statement. I'm sure they were relieved.

Cops are out in full force protecting the PRC Embassy tonight.

"Chinese media" claim victory after Japan agreement? oh no!

Domestically, 9 out of 10 do not bother that victory at all!

No Chinese look forward for that, the world knows which side is desperately begging for the meeting.

Nothing will ever happened, neither sit nor stand, Chinese would definitely salvage this dignity from someone unsincere.

Chinese media claim victory after Japan agreement

So? To win the "war" sometimes one has to lose a battle or two.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Even after 25 years ( european age) the Koreas are what they are. So we sit it out?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

So... both sides agree to disagree on what they have been disagreeing on what they both used to agree to set aside the disagreeing issue on Diaoyu/Senkaku?

That's what I got out of it.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Yes its a diplomatic issue and you don't sit it out without ruminating ( farm term) )

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

This is rather the dispute on diplomatic and political aspect since all of a sudden China claimed over sovereignty of Senkaku Islands (this part is a comment from one professor)

In 1990 the name, Senkaku Islands was named by Kuroiwa, a teacher from Kochi Pref. when he was asked to investigate the islands by Tatsushiro Koga, a businessman who was given the right to rent free of charge by then Japanese government. Between 1885 and 1895, Japanese government made a full survey on who owns the islands, and confirmed that the island did not belong to any other countries, and thus annexed after proper legal procedure in 1895 when China and Japan were right in the middle of war. Japanese government fulfilled the requirements set by International Law. So personally I feel the Senkaku belongs to Japan 100%.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

I would say it is a victory for both countries.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Why they need to see each other anyway?

StormRNov. 08, 2014 - today our brave leader was successful and won a fantastic victory, we will all rejoice in national delight at our great leader ...

Wow, sounds like some NK media talks about their great leader kim!

cleoNov. 08, 2014 - Even if the Chinese took over the Senkakus, they still couldn't sail into the Pacific without passing through Japanese territory. Unless they took over the rest of Okinawa, too.

Their Navy already have been sailing to the Pacific all the time without passing JP territory during last couple years!

1 ( +2 / -1 )

So i sit in my onsen and watch the world going zen?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Has it ever occurred to you that China wants the islands because its northern fleet, based in Qingdao, can't sail into the Pacific without passing through Japanese territory?

We are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the iron curtain being dismantled. The Chinese have a different anniversary. The locals only have economics?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

China only wants the islands for the minerals that are on the seabed and for the oil that probably lies underneath the seabed.

Thanks for parroting the news. Has it ever occurred to you that China wants the islands because its northern fleet, based in Qingdao, can't sail into the Pacific without passing through Japanese territory?

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

The Senkakus were a part of the Ryukyu Islands when they were under U.S. control, and they were returned to Japanese control along with what is now Okinawa Prefecture. The situation has not changed and all parties concerned should follow this fact. China only wants the islands for the minerals that are on the seabed and for the oil that probably lies underneath the seabed.

10 ( +14 / -4 )

Just more Chinese propaganda for its leaders to ram down the throats of its ill informed masses, meaningless rhetoric.

In other news to Abe won a miraculous victory over china in finally getting its stupid ignorant leaders to sit down and have a meeting, Abe had tried many times previously but today our brave leader was successful and won a fantastic victory, we will all rejoice in national delight at our great leader as the Chinese finally submitted to Japanese requests.

Absolute garbage china spews forth is sickening.

Chinese media claim victory after Japan agreement

I'm confused! Doesn't an 'agreement' mean compromises on both sides? I guess I can see the Chinese point, but it's not a victory. It's an agreement! I know Japan has paid millions in compensation to the victims of its imperial rule in the first half of last century, but I also am a bit disgusted by Japan's needs to soften the conflict in history textbooks and paint it as a non-regrettable part of history. I've read the high school history textbooks and there is nothing the that mentions anything about remorse. It's all 'gung ho!' Bushido crap! I can't blame the Chinese for pushing this issue. As for the soverenty issue of these specs of rock in the pacific, many countries have been arguing over these rocks for centuries. It was the US that gave them to Japan at the end of WW2. Perhaps China should be partition the U.S. instead of making it a hate issue in Asia. Just a thought.

-1 ( +9 / -10 )

'The conservative Yomiuri Shimbun paper argued that the reference to “different views” did “not impair Japan’s position so far that ‘there is no territorial dispute’,” and said Tokyo had “firmly” maintained its stance.'

Ah, good old Japan-speak: "There's a dispute, sure! but that doesn't at all mean there is a dispute!"
