These are just public donations... in private, there are so many under the table deals that you can frequently see politicians spending 1M-10M yen a night in Ginza, Roppongi, etc. and of course having multiple multi-billion yen homes,

The Japan Electrical Manufacturers' Association was the second top donor at 77 million yen, followed by Toyota Motor Corp. at 64.40 million yen.

Toyota makes about eight million cars a year, which divided up regardless of holidays is one every 24 seconds. For that scale of business, sixty four million yen won't be very much money. Especially for what they get off the LDP.

Understand. Not a wise investment. People are starting to peer into the LDP cupboard and finding quite a few skeletons there.

Not just that, their big corporations and business elites aren't doing well. Bridgestone's family is the most hardcore supporter for the LDP, and they recently shut down a huge factory in France due to the rising losses. These losses have been steadily rising for years, before the Pandemic. In 2020, you have SoftBank, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Sony are all facing troubles by ten fold. I am just using examples from overseas corporations who are always on better shapes than their domestic counterparts.

No more profitable revenues = No more donations to the LDP.

Declining profit margin. Japan and South Korea are chumping out cheap cars that will see a gradual decline of profit margin in the long run as well as a very sluggish revenue growth. Automobile industry primarily exists to create jobs for the sake of social stability.

GM and Ford, with ludicrously low profitability, keep surviving because their primary reason is to provide jobs for Americans under the subsidies from the US government. The profitable parts of GM and Ford are now in the R&D and intellectual properties, which also see a sluggish growth in profit as well but stable in the long term.

Toyota's function is to ensure jobs for Japanese people, so donating huge money for LDP isn't part of the plan. LDP cronies would want Toyota to use the money to invest in more jobs for Japanese workers.

Don't forget the consumption tax was raised 13 months ago by 2% [yes, I know going from 8% to 10% is actually a 25% increase]. As the LDP government is taking 2% more at all stages of the economy, it stands to reason that donations to the LDP would drop 1.6%, as many donors would feel like "they already gave" their share.

Exactly! It is always a done deal, isn’t it, the LDP having control. Indeed why give a yen?

Of that figure, 72.1 percent, or 17.65 billion yen, came from state subsidies, funds distributed to political parties in proportion to the number of parliamentary seats they hold. Taxpayers fund the subsidies.

Yikes! Japanese taxpayers subsidize political parties in Japan? It would be helpful to know what the subsidies are for exactly. Learned something new.

LDP should raise Company Tax!
