her appointing him to secretary general was the main reason for my shift of support from Renho to Koike. Appointing Noda to one of the most powerful positions in the DP proved that if Renho wins the PMship, her reign would be symbolic as the first PM born of a foreign father, but that she would be part of the establishment and business as usual.

I think the key word in the headline is telling: switch.

Not, select, elect, choose or find.

The decision has been made behnd closed doors as usual.

For better or worse there is no chance of a Macron or Corbyn in Japan.

a foreign woman PM. i can really see that happening.

a foreign woman PM.

And foreigners here complain that the Japanese are discriminatory against those with foreign blood. If foreigners are calling this woman - who was born of a Japanese parent, in Japan, and has lived here almost her entire life - a foreigner, how can we ever expect the Japanese to accept our children as Japanese?

(Fortunately, many Japanese I know do accept my children as Japanese)

Some of them may get out from DPJ and go back to LDP.

Some of them may get out from DPJ and go back to LDP.

All the conservatives in the DP should do that. For some of them it would probably be a smart career move.

Noda was a useless PM who basically gave up and handed power to Abe. It's time he retired.

Marcelito, I agree 1000%. There is no way that Minshinto will ever win back the popularity it had before. I know many posters here fear Koike and her ties to Nippon Kaigi, but I think she is the best bet Japan has got going. Two strong women would say a lot for the party, which might then empower more women to run, and vote, and then there would be a true revolution and throw the likes of Abe and Aso to the curb where they belong!
