Dozens of WWII veterans to gather in Hawaii despite pandemic

Let's not forget the Japanese from America who served with the 442.

Let’s not forget there’s a global existential crisis afoot. And older people are high risk.

I was wondering how they would manage the event, considering the state's two-week mandatory quarantine for incoming visitors. Seems that the local gov'ts will find a way to make it work, but there's still risk for the elderly veterans and those around them. Hoping that it turns out well for everyone.

My father who served in the army air corps during wwii as a pilot did not know that Japanese Americans served in Europe and where some of the most highly decorated Japanese usa military troops fought and died shames me. My late j wife was astonished that the USA has so many Japanese Americans give there lives to this country but they have not been acknowledged for there sacrifices. Maybe the USA will wake up.

The heroics of the Japanese American units during WW2 are well known and have been widely acknowledged. The 442nd was the most decorated unit in WW2, receiving such awards as Presidential Unit Citation, etc. There were also lots of individual awards, e.g., Sen Daniel Inouye received the Medal Of Honor. There was even a movie made about their heroics in 1951 (Go For Broke). Thank you to all who served in this War to free the world of the dictators, the greatest generation to ever have lived in the modern world.

Now to only have their legacy ruined by the new breed of wannabe dictators trying to crush our freedoms and rights surfacing around the globe.

Yet the war ended a long time ago, before the birth of most people. So many innocent people perished due to the guilty. Yet their deaths are celebrated by the victorious like those of the guilty. The people of Japan did not want this war but were slaves to the fascists. Let's remember this war and vow to prevent any more wars.

Hawkeye, what is even more remarkable is Sgt Ben Kuroki. He participated in the Ploesti Raid, yes that one, and later served in a B-29 over Japan. Very remarkable career for a nisei. But yes, we should remember everyone and on both sides and work towards Peace.

I lost two veteran friends last year, one who fought during WW2 against the fascist Axis and another who fled fascist Falangist Spain for Puerto Rico. When I last saw him he was sick and wasn't able to contact his relatives in PR because racist Trump doesn't care for Hispanic Americans. Trump has not provided any help or relief to PR after that hurricane did tremendous damage there.

Those two veteran friends of mine fought against and fled rom fascism and they died in a fascist U.S.A.

In a World History class in college we had to read translated books written by non-Western authors. One of them was by a Japanese man who lived thru the WW2 era and he described how the Japanese fascist regime had lied to the people there. After the surrender the veil was lifted and Japan's citizens were able to see how their government had misruled and brought shame to their people.

Japan's constitution now states that war is abolished 'forever' and that 'the right to beligerency is not recognized'.

These veterans, American and otherwise will regain their legacy when fascism is eliminated in the U.S.A. and dictatorships in Russia, Belarus, etc. are also gone.
