DPJ to choose new leader on Tuesday

The Democratic Party of Japan announced Saturday that it will choose a new leader and successor to outgoing Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda on Tuesday.

About 140 Diet members belonging to the DPJ met Saturday. Party executives said that candidates who have the backing of at least 20 Diet members are eligible to run.

Banri Kaieda, 63, a former economy, trade and industry minister, was the first to declare his candidacy. He told reporters that he wants to rebuild the party so that it can successfully contest next summer's upper house election, TBS reported.

Where's Maehara, Okada, Kan & others? These guys ruined a good opportunity to change the political settings of Japan. They betrayed the hopes of the youths, women & hard working salary man of the country. I weep 4 DPJ!
