They should pick a reserve PM while they are at it. It will save them time in a few months down the road.

Lets bring back Mori, he was a real corker.

Yes, its September and Japan has a new temporary PM. Just like clockwork.

Kan was probably the best PM in the last 15 years. At least he was not corrupt like most of the pols are.

Of all the self-serving, blow-hard geezers in the Japanese government, it's the least of them, the only one who has actually managed to stand against a raging tide of opposition (literally and figuratively), who's being booted off.

How sad and discouraging.

That is very bad news. Because system of management Japan will be degenerate after that. NK more stable than Japan. World is mad! Japanese parliament is very irresponsible. I have hard shock.

Gotta get a new PM as soon as possible! Why? Well, no one has figured that out yet.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

his own ineptitude forced him out.

What's forcing him out is the gang of me-me baboons each of which see the chance to either sit in the big chair themselves or put their patron in the big chair, either way increasing their own cash-flow.

Beats me why Maehara should be the 'public's favourite'.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

It's been months since they started urging the PM to step down and they still don't even know who's going to be the next one?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

The DPJ should listen to the public otherwise it will be game over soon.

As long as these two Godfathers; Ozawa and Hatoyama are in charge of DPJ, nothing will change. I am afraid Maehara will not last long as his stance is for a proUSA while Ozawa and Hatoyama are for a proAsia. I hope I am wrong on this. What do you think everyone?

Pray for Japan

Truth is ...

They do not love this country

They even do not love themself

lol ...

Too many olders in Japan !!!

ps. This flux of PM after PM is just as damaging to Japan's political and financial landscape as the incessant battering of a tsunami. Just when there's a chance that progress might actually have been made, it's all washed away in the spittle of a bunch of gabbing geezers who have their hands stuck in the coffers and their minds in the 19th century.

Seems the job of lawmakers is it out the PM as soon as possible, it's like their jobs to constantly find fault and kick the PM out.

It's sad. Prime minister Kan (DPJ) was the first one who has attempted to curtail bureaucracy's power and vows nuclear free futue.(He said in the public that he changed his view toward nuclear power plant, after the plant accident in March: It is not safe). Its obvious that LDP still have power over bureaucracy, that they have created and kept since the world war II. They used all ways including media and people in the internet to kick him away... its sad.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Great. Now all we need is an election to throw out the DPJ and the LDP.

I bet maehara feels like the first mate of the titanic. Capt: well we've hit the iceberg so you might as well have a go now. Maehara: geee. Thanks Capt.

is it too late to reinstate the emperor as head of government?

And that worked out so well last time didnt it?

it worked really well for almost a century. we went from the equivalent of renaissance europe to an industrial/military superpower(for the time) in decades instead of centuries.

By military superpower you mean evil murderous imperialistic ethnic cleansing occupiers. Yep true....

there could a be japanese empire across eastern asia and the pacific had we just left the western powers alone

What about the non western powers your beloved war criminal emperor saw conquered. Just what the world needs more Japanese imperialism. Enough people died getting rid of it last time. So no thanks to a repeat.

I just want a PM who will stand up to the "tyranny of the majority" that is Japan's legion of soon-to-be-elderly baby boomers.

Politician after politician insists that the consumption tax must be raised and the funds diverted to handouts for retirees. They're already richer than their juniors will ever be, and had the advantages of inheriting a peaceful postwar world from their elders (who made huge sacrifices during WWII and whom I'm happy to pay pension money to), enjoyed safe lifetime employment with benefits and family prosperity on a single income, saw the values of their property go sky high during the bubble, and built their wealth steadily in an expanding economy.

Today's new graduates get none of those things, and have no representation in government looking out for their interests. For today's government, it's: Raise taxes! Run up huge deficits to be paid back "later"! Destroy the value of people's savings through inflation! Distract the populace with nanny-state sleight-of-hand like child allowances! Who cares how high unemployment goes -- everyone who counts is near retirement!

Just once I want to see a PM who isn't looking to throw everyone born after 1970 under the bus so that that huge no-longer-productive boomer voting bloc can have even more advantages. Japan takes great pride in its social cohesion, and even today Japan has something the world should envy. But when trouble comes, it won't be because of island disputes with neighbors or problems with resident foreigners or whatever other boogey-man they've cooked up -- it'll be because the simmering hatred brought on by generational theft will have boiled over.

@ThonTaddeo, isn't it the reason Kan is being forced out? I believe Kan has tried to stand up tall against bureaucrats, LDP and Godfathers (Ozawa and Hatoyama).

J. Gov is filled with too many failing non productive politicians and bureaucrats who only care about themselves. As you have mentioned above, a Japanese social cohesion and Japanese people have been spoiling them to get away with a murder in the past. There too many chiefs always fighting over power while bureaucrats are laughing to the bank. Very sad.

Pray for Japan

I sure what if Kan would leave of PM then no one problem will not be magic solved. New PM will lose time for understanding situation in Japan and think about it. So what? After 6 month will be another new PM? Yes, 15% for Kan is very bad. But rating is not God in Shrine. Each change of PM is kick to Japan. That situation is good for USA and China but very bad for all world.

@sunhawkAug. 24, 2011 - 01:08PM JST

Is he ready for that?

Why you sure that he have experience for that role?

@paulinusa

Well we had this little nuclear 'splosion you see.... And now we need a new PM because our cows are hot, and we don't have anyone to blame it on.

It all makes sense now doesn't it?

put Koizumi back in the big chair!

japan needs to stop changing heads of government along with the calendar every year.

then after we had half a century of prosperity under the ldp. now with the dpj its a bunch of empty suiters being very regretful for everything. let kan have one more year!

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

all the more reason for the emperor to have offical political power again. if limited to such things as putting an end to the revovlving door of Primeirs.
