Dementia setting in. Someone should kindly intervene and relieve him of his duties.

The definition of impasse: is a point in a process where further progress is blocked, especially by disagreement.
This is just an excuse and misuse of the word "impasse". No one with half a brain disagrees with the fact that Japan has a serious problem still, with sexism.

Aso and Biden have lots of advanced aging issues, it's not pretty, but at least Kamikawa San's above the fray.
As Kamikawa-San too busy trying to bring peaceful resolution to Ukraine's ongoing 10year old civil war tragedy, that's caused great powers (US NATO & Russia) to put entire world in GRAVE Danger.

No doubt sexism's UNIVERSAL & NOT Limited to Politicians!

"I wouldn't say she's particularly beautiful,"
This ungentlemanly snark is pure infantile sexism from a sour, prune-faced, wizened old geezer with arrested development whose own repulsiveness can't hide under his favorite fedora.

Put him out to pasture already!

Maybe the best way to deal with the LDP and other sexism-permissive parties is for the females to leave them and start their own party. Then the LDP and others will maybe realize their ways. ( ノ^ω^)ノ

Real shame Aso feels so entitled, throwing away an opportunity to be a strong role model and help Japan better connect to world not interested in sexism.

He is an old "dog", I mean, you cannot teach an old dog new tricks. Actually, I suspect Aso, as a right wing politician, believes it's Japanese culture/tradition, which is respected and retained forever. He no longer meets expectations of general population in the country. But the constituents in Fukuoka love him and keep on voting for him. It's too bad LDP cannot touch him because of his bloodline.

Imagine the cheers by Japanese and Asian women if instead of these anodyne remarks showing deference to Aso because of his elevated status, Kamikawa has just told it like it is and said, " Have you had a cognitive ability test recently Aso-kun? I think dementia may be creeping up on you. And while we are at it, I know you have been sucking at that silver spoon all your life but what is up with your mouth? It looks like a puckered a***.
You are the laughing stock of every gathering of foreign leaders."
If she had responded like that maybe she could become Japan's first female populist Prime Minister.

All hail to the great Aso!!!

She is a Oba, that is what her grandchildren call her!

Unfortunately, Aso can't hide behind the excuse of dementia - he's been this way throughout his career. The only person who's said more insulting things than he has is Yoshiro Mori.

Being an old reactionary, I hope that Japan “advances” to at least 140th. But Aso is an obnoxious blue-blood. If he did not exist, the “progressive” media would have to invent him.

Don't be too hard on Taro -- the modern world is a confusing place for old guys like him who were around during the Jomon period.

Aso is as sharp as a tack no sarcasm intended. He wouldn’t still be around if he wasn’t. Problem is that this is who he is and he has a history of saying things like this going back decades. He’s just an old school Catholic boy.

Yet Kamikawa took it on the chin and refused to react back to Aso.
Kamikawa won’t come up with an epithet as she 1.knows her place2.understands that Aso is more powerful than she is.

Not going to be a popular comment, but to me she looks beautiful, something in her poise and demeanor, and some kind of innocent honesty in her eyes. Regardless of her physical age. Just wish the world was more full of people like her.

exposed?
No. We all know it's a thing and has been going on forever.
Nothing new to see.
Yes, we all also know that Aso is an idiot and needs to disappear.
Again, nothing new to report here.

Interesting for him to make such remarks about Ms. Kamikawa's age and appearance considering he looks like he just sat up at his own funeral.

"I am aware that there are various opinions and voices out there, and I am grateful for all of them." What you would expect a diplomat to say. She was probably thinking, "He's 200 years old, but he still dyes his hair".

( 1 ) [ “ But Professor Toko Tanaka from the University of Tokyo, a specialist in gender studies, criticized Aso's comments for perpetuating stereotypes that a woman's value lies in her looks and youth, noting that male politicians would not be subjected to such value judgments.
Japan continues to lag in gender equality within the political sphere, with a dismal ranking of 138th out of 146 countries in the Political Empowerment subindex of the World Economic Forum's gender gap report. “ ]
( 2 ) [ “ In a Mie Prefectural Assembly committee session last December, a male member commented on the appearance of two high school girls he saw at a local event, saying, "The two were very beautiful. I thought they scored 100 points without a doubt."
A female councilor swiftly condemned the comments, saying individuals are unique and should be accepted for who they are. She expressed concerns about the impact of objectifying young people and called for the government to address the issue. “ ]
Great article(!)—some smart, courageous people out there but(!) Japan still has a long way to go—you see… it’s all connected—the whole { “men women”/“women have to be cute”/kawaii culture } thing is a web of outdated beliefs and ideas that are deeply ingrained in Japanese society.

Note:
In my previous post, the “greater than” symbol was supposed to be between “men” and “women”. = “gender inequality”.
ycgdude
Isn't this normal, everyday behaviour for Aso?
Tamarama
Someone switch his mic off and quietly lead him away from the lectern.
People like this shouldn't be public representatives in any country, let alone here.
John-San
You can call Biden old and senile which is true but it never gets pull up as ageism. Comment a lady age and appearance and call her old and ugly, which I disagree. it is call sexism. The women display well for her years and preforms better than recent younger males counterparts. All he said was that piece of halibut is fit for Johovah and he cops a stoning. How true was Monty Python. If wokeism can ignore the that fact that Biden is very old and senile they can certainly ignore with Aso.

Incompetence at its best.
