Expectations low

That's the spirit! LOL

2 ( +5 / -3 )

The meeting/s have been and will continue to be a success. 2 years ago Kim was all hot about blowing up America, but now hes relaxed quite a bit! Love him or hate him, 1 thing is true about Trump, the media will only EVER trash him because they are liberal pawns.. as is Hollywood. If you dont see it, its because you choose not to. MAGA !

klausdorth, you need to stop watching CNN

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

Trump has been spectactularly successfull in regard to NK, and propaganda spin that CNN and the rest of the Trump hating corporate media are putting on his policy is ridiculous.

It is a difficult situation to solve, but Trump is well on his way to make a deal that offers a patch to change in the NK regime involving both China, Russia, and South Korea which will have to include some sort of guaranty for the personal safety of the Kim clan, which is absolutely necessary to achieve this. Has nobody noticed that the NK propaganda already has changed from threatening fire and brimstone to peace? Anybody who believes that Clinton-style traditional diplomacy with posturing and moral lectures would have gotten us there is deluded.

It is a complicated situation, and the idea touted by CNN and their selected "experts" that Trumps NK policy is a failure because it did not achieve immediately a complete and utter surrender of the Kim clan is bizarre. Increasing watching CNN and their childish propaganda is like watching an extended SNL skit.

Let's see; a cult of personality leader, indoctrination for citizens from an early age, pledging undying loyalty to the state, having a go-to enemy for when times are tough and so many orchestrated public rallies.

Genuninely not sure which country involved that this applies to.

Certainly the U.S. Democrats don't want a win in the N Korea summit. The rest of the world wouldn't mind though.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

Look to Beijing, not Washington, as to how the Kim regime behaves. That Kim will ever relinquish his nuclear weapons and LRBMs is highly unlikely. What keeps observers on their toes is whether he'll throw out the baby with the bathwater in an attempt at self-glorification.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Just give Kim some money or other material aid and he will continue to make conciliatory noises.  note no rockets or threats or shelling of SK ow similar for a while.

Guess you'd have to ask them. I think the main worry amongst commentators who know a thing or two about previous engagements (or attempts to engage) is the idea of concessions. And, of course, the empty promises about the DPRK becoming some kind of capitalist hub or outpost of US commericalism. Can't see the party faithful in North Korea swallowing that one.

Expectations low

This is what passes for journalism these days. Better get those barbs in early, just in case Trump finds success. Such a headline was never used during the Obama presidency. At least his critics waited to see what the outcome was, rather than just making stuff up. Whose expectations? No need to say, apparently. The usual suspects, as though they matter.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

"If I were not elected president, you would have been in a war with North Korea," Trump said last week.

2 years on and he still talks himself up lol. Such an insufferable show-off.

Even if it were true, let others do the bragging ffs. Less bragging would mean more support, votes etc (pretty sure his entourage and PR team have asked him countless times to tone it down, in vain. The bloke's beyond repair)

1 ( +5 / -4 )

before Trump America was not even talking to NK stop being so biased and give credit where its due

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

when was the last missile flying over japan from NK?

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

And, of course, the empty promises about the DPRK becoming some kind of capitalist hub or outpost of US commericalism

Who promised this? Trump has merely suggested the possibilities for N Korea if they cooperate and get on the path to denuking.

when was the last missile flying over japan from NK?

November 2017.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

This is a typical anti-trump article posing as an objective assessment of the NK situation. Lemire hasn't got a clue about the situation on the ground and is obsessed by US domestic politics. The reality is that every small step that binds Kim closer to the outside world is a step away from war and towards peace. Give Trump some credit on this one.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

The summit location is a blessing since Trump can relive the memories of his fighting days and pay respect to his fellow brothers in arms during Viet Nam war.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Peace prize recommendation not looking so good now heh?

1 ( +4 / -3 )

This is just another photo opportunity and its main result will be similar to the first photo opportunity in Singapore ... distract the masses.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Only if the US and Israel simultaneously denuclearise should NK denuclearise. The only thing saving NK from being under the heel of Washington is NK nuclear capability. Look at Iraq, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan......

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Millions of North Koreans have South Korean relatives. Even your so-called "party faithful". They may be starving but aren't stupid.

Given a chance, the Korean DNA for business accuity will be quickly developed if far-left "Americans" who hate America just keep their hands off for six more years.

Thank God, President Trump, defies the media, the socialists and Never Trumpers, and does what's best for the American people and for the security of people and countries in the region, foremost of which Japan & SoKor.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

"what's best for the American people and for the security of people and countries in the region" as long as the countries in the region become subservient to the US, as long as the US can keep them under its heel.

give credit where its due

Ok, I'll allow Mr Trump credit for keeping NK on the world stage, but we should judge by results, not by headline expectations and soundbites. We have to ask what the endgame is. No testing (until the next time)? Denuclearisation? Credible independent inspection programs? Better human rights for the NK population?

Neither player is publishing its expected deliverables.

Ever since the last summit, I'm finding it hard to move the peg along the board to demonstrate a resultant improvement in world peace or human rights

I really like what Trump is doing. He puts himself out there, releases long-form video of his dealings with others, states clearly what he intends to do, and then goes and tries to do it. How cool is that?

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

This is Trump's only shot at leaving a positive legacy on his miserable, corrupt & crime ridden tenure as president. He'd better make it count.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Expectation means nothing.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

By having face-to-face meetings with a NOK leader, President Trump has already done more simmer tensions in that part of the world than any U.S. President in nearly 70 years. Sad to read the MSM back benchers clamor for more global unrest. To them, George Orwell was correct in "1984": "War is Peace".

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Look to Beijing, not Washington, as to how the Kim regime behaves. That Kim will ever relinquish his nuclear weapons and LRBMs is highly unlikely.

It would not only be unlikely, it would be unthinkable if we had a Hillary Clinton presidency. In that case, the old game of posturing, threatening, and getting piecemeal concessions would have continued, and maybe actually led to a disastrous shooting war. With Trump and his out-of-the-box approach, we do have a way out. Look forward to some sort of peace agreement involving both China, Russia, and South Korea soon.

Trump, who is in the process of winding down not 1 one but 4 stupid globalist wars at the moment is definitely a contender for a Nobel peace prize. I would love to see the CNN watching neolib heads explode when that happens...

Expectations low as Trump looks for win in N Korea summit

What exactly is the expectation? And, this is part of a peace process, which is usually aiming for win-win on both sides.

A strange headline, in my opinion.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

That may be true of Japan when it comes o human rights issues.

Regardless of the outcome, it will be the usual "tremendous victory." Ho-hum.

missiles over Japan:

Obama: 4

Trump: 0

Stop being so biased you can not see positive results.
