Thankfully their advances (bribes) were rejected by 8 island nations the other day, and Australia and other nations are looking to improve ties.
You really dont want the CCP training your police force.

Sad and sorry fact that these colorful shirt wearing Island ‘leaders’ know that they can milk the two sides for every penny they have. It’s not as if any nations economy is thriving right now either, no one has money to throw around at greedy , corrupt officials who will only take the lions share for themselves and pad their own nests with luxuries. If they really wanted roads and infrastructure they would have got their act together and done it already. I smell plain old opportunism.
I guess by spending a penny now you try and stave off a fully blown arms build up in the future but what’s truly disappointing is that many of these islands were devastated when they got caught between two warring sides in WW2. Many fought bravely and paid dearly. Memories fade and we are back to square one.

PNG in particular has had a gut full of China's Belt and Road projects. The big "data center" PNG racked up debt for China to build has had no commercial application so far, but rather has been used to collect electronic intelligence for the PLA. Then to add insult to injury the Chinese sent a plane load of supposedly tested Covid-19 free workers to PNG and when the plane arrived most of these workers tested positive for Covid-19. PNG officials were irate! The PNG government has been considering refusing to repay the loan so disgusted with the Chinese they have become. I am sure their experience served as a caution to the other nations at the conference.

Pretty much the same situation with the US and USSR during the Cold War. The countries never developed, their leaders got rich, and many got embroiled in horrible wars encouraged by their 2 "benefactors."

Why? Because Japan felt bad that they didn't do it earlier than the Chinese?

never read any articles about Chinese police murdering black people, and China has never had a vast network of anti-police protests and riots about its police like BLM.

my hypothesis is that US war is business as usual. Good business.
their proxy wars are never fighten on US soil. The current one is divesting EU economies and the battleground is Ukraine.
their proxy war with China will devastate Asian economies and the battleground will be
Japan and Taiwan.

It should be called China’s “The Whole Enchilada Approach” and it should worry everyone.

Gee, I wonder why that is....

China's Pacific island diplomacy may complicate ties with Japan?
Has China's diplomatic move jeopardized the security situation in the Pacific region?
How could such diplomacy further complicate China's ties with Japan when both Beijing & Tokyo are at logger heads for so many decades?
OssanAmerica
The expansion of an autocratic dictatorship well outside it's borders worries everyone. Japan is just one of many nations. Strategically, Australia is even more worried. Alot of American, Japanese and others' blood was shed over these islands some 90 years ago. And now China comes walking in with briefcases of money.
Ego Sum Lux Mundi
Pretty arrogant of Australians to go around referring to the Pacific Islands as "their backyard", just as the Americans do when referring to Central and South America. They're too stubborn to realize why this is part of the reason why many regions of the world are now becoming more and more ambivalent about accepting satrapy status in the American Empire.

Bit late to say that isn't it !

Obviously you got your bias viewpoint all topsy-turvy !
Alot of Pacific islanders blood was shed by the USA and by the Japanese .
China has alot more to offer than just money.
OssanAmerica
Just look at Tibet, Hong Kong, the Uighur Autonomous Region, behavior towards Taiwan to get a glimpse of what "China has to offer".
The US and western allies may not be perfect. but they won't take away self determination.

The US tested their nuclear bombs in the Pacific; that should tell you what they think of you, a waste land.
The Chinese are seriously fanatical about building infrastructure.
The proxy wars are never fought on US soil. They are proxy for a reason. The current one is divesting EU economies and the battleground is Ukraine.
America can’t go to wars directly with Russia or China, because they are nuclear armed. Proxy wars put the battlefields outside of America. Back in the 1980s, America supported the Afghan Mujaheddin in a proxy war with the USSR, which helped drain the economy of the USSR. 40 years later, it’s Ukraine.
Russia and China have given their clear redlines. America will use the proxies of Ukraine and Taiwan to push across Russia’s and China’s redlines to trigger the wars.

Not wanting to bomb the hell out of other countries thousands of miles away does not make it isolationism.

Its ironic you mentioned that. I can’t imagine the US making a TikTok video such as the one below.

This is what happened the last time anyone tried to conduct street demonstrations in China.

That CCP tabloid idea of an “Asian NATO” sounds like the perfect thing to me.
Maybe it just need be a GTO - Global. If Russia and China wanna cling to their warmongering and genocide.

This is how China is helping the neglected developing countries: a mere mention of security agreement and a visit. Did you hear the laugh coming from the CCP office?
