I hope the next PM will be conciliatory as well with China (and South Korea).
I am not saying that the next Japanese PM should be pushovers and allow these two countries to unfairly harass and bully Japan, but at the same time I hope to see more cooperation.

Not a chance. Xi's state visit will be cancelled. Pro-Beijing Nikai and other panda-huger politicians are coming under attack and full surveillance.
The CCP leaders are mistaken; it's not only the US but also almost the entire world (except North Korea?) are against the authoritarian regime.

China bullies.
He is unlikely to be elected by the public if he bends over for China.

China "expects" the next J-PM to grovel and pay tribute to the Middle Kingdom.
Desert Tortoise
China in it's arrogance expects all and sundry to bow to them. NO! A big middle finger to the Middle Kingdom. Boycott Chinese made products.

When the US-China relationship sours, Beijing smiles at Japan. This has happened many times.
gaicuckojin
Hahaha... this is too funny, I love Chinese comedy, but no, not a chance.
Fighto!

Being WEAK to the bully Communist China at this incredibly dangerous time is madness. Have you even read any recent news about what the Commies are doing in the region? Violently taking over Hong Kong and detaining peaceful protesters; arresting foreign journalists; threatening to invade Taiwan; illegally claiming huge parts of the South China Sea, the list is endless.
PM Suga should stand up to the bully, continue PM Abes policy of ordering Japanese companies out of China, and disengaging economic and diplomatic relations.
Yubaru
China is just laying the groundwork for what they HOPE will be the reality. But dont count on Suga to waver from Abe's policies.
Wesley
And the World EXPECTS china to stop being a bully.
ReasonandWisdomNippon
Oldman I disagree with your view on S. Korea
They should be hold accountable for the multiple agreements signed, promised made to have normal relations again, after money was paid, apologies given dozens of times by dozens of Japanese Prime Ministers.
China should have a closer relationship with Japan long ago, long before problems with America started.
Senkaku Islands, Japan has done nothing with it, no Japanese living on the island, no buildings, no infrastructure, China should be happy and stop all patrols in the area, they should understand that good relations with Japan is more important than tiny islands which we don't use, don't extract resources ourselves.
China should also support Japan becoming a normal country with a normal military again, able to defend itself and others and counter balance the image of communist Chinese trying to take over, if Japan won't do it... Then America will.

Funny, now Japan is good enough for China to be a friend... when the rest of the democratic world clearly said to China we don't want to have anything common with you. I just hope new Japanese leadership will not jump on this villain tactics

In my opinion China LOST the plot on things conciliatory over 20yrs ago!!!
Seems like some countries are finally catching onto my way of thinking, hope they stay the course & start getting out of China etc etc
Japan would be very unwise to go brown nosing to China here onwards!!!
Akie
Japan has an unchangeable fate. No one can change that.
Ken Wyatt
I don't think so. China's just showed its hand. It's in a relatively vulnerable position right now after provoking most of its neighbours.
If Japan plays its cards wisely, it'll use that vulnerability.
Besides, China's still harassing us around the Senkaku islands.
Better kick'em while they're down.
GW
Damn, should have been NOT go brown nosing!
Joe Blow
A Chinese brown noser, just great.
Joe Blow
Yeah, it's fate is to always be better than China.

As an American working in China, on my way back to Japan where I lived for a decade, I really hope that cooler heads on all sides will prevail. However, if the headline is accurate, then China's arrogance is on full display. Japan does not need to bow to China. This is the same country and government that in 2012 openly endorsed nationwide protesting and rioting against Japanese businesses. My company at that time had a ban on Japanese travel to China for safety reasons and I had to visit suppliers for my coworkers and remember flying from Haneda to Shanghai on a 777 with only 3 other passengers.
Just yesterday the Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian said sports and politics should be separated, in response to calls to rescind the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. If sports and politics should be separated then why hold the NBA hostage over one individual's personal opinion? The direction of wind in China changes very quickly.

Translation error.
What was really said was, “In preparation for Japan’s next PM, we at the CCP are preparing our buttocks with moisturizer. We hope Japan applies the lipstick.
quercetum
Boycott the Beijing Olympics. If you're a bully then you must have some sort of power. It's up to the rest of the world to stand up to China.
Peter14
At some point Japan will need to pick sides. You can juggle for a while but when one side or the other changes you need to determine if you support the change or oppose it. Japan has been part of Asia and the western system since WWII ended. Will it follow China and be subservient to what they want or will it continue to stand by western rules based law that has helped it prosper for decades.
The same choice is being faced right now by a western nation between trade with China or security with the US. It is making its choice and it so far seems to be going with security over trade.
Which way will Japan end up going?

Most readers' comments appear to be non-supportive of China. Like many Japanese folks, they tend to dislike communism, nursing a phobia against China's momentous rise in the past two decades when their nation's economy suffers from stagnancy.
Avoid being short-sighted, have a bit of foresightedness..
AviBajaj
Nope China economic rise is just a lie just do the math china earning 1.5 billion dollars in a day they will use it all up to feed their population for a single day so where is the economic might thats how financial wellbeing or wealth is calculated wealth n population
OssanAmerica
There are hardly any "Japanese" posters here on JT. The entire world dislikes communism when it is practiced as an authoritarian dictatorship. China is far more fascist than communist. Even a communist country like Vietnam dislikes China.
JCosplay
This is nothing but wishful thinking on the part of the Chinese government. That, as well as a strong suggestion to whoever becomes new Prime Minister.
But considering all the bad moves that China has made, (oh where do I even begin with this one? LOL) I don’t think they’ll gain too much ground, considering that.
fxgai
Wtf does it matter what the commie govt that is taking away freedoms from people in Hong Kong wants?
Suga should tell em to suck it, and as a taxpayer here my voice matters more
Paul
I really hope he doesn't, but then like Abe he will cuddle up to them in the name of stronger economy.
GW
Please ignore my correction to myself, it was right the first time LOL!! I am having a bad day, cant even understand my own posts LOL!!!
Seth M
China can't afford to mess up with Japan now, they even banned their own fishing near the Senkaku waters.Japan shouldn't antagonize China either.
It's a delicate game of ballance right now. Abe is pretty good at this game, the new PM should just follow his policy
AustPaul
Stay strong and true to your convictions Japan. I think a lot of people down under have lost respect for China now and hope for stronger ties with Japan and India.
China’s not being very conciliatory to us!

So it sounds like Nikai will be the real PM on behalf of the CCP.
Hiro S Nobumasa
PM Suga is a wise person.
He knows that silent partners Washingjing and Beijington will be partying again after the elections.
So his China policy will be based on such a reality.
A da-kine no- brainer!
Sal Affist
It is hard to know whether the CCP believes the fantasies they publish (because no one is allowed to publish contrary views inside the halls of the regime) or they simply trust that if they repeat their lies long enough, others will come to believe them.
