well, that's good to hear, and I have every confidence that the J-Gov initiative on this will be equally as dynamic as, for example: the handling of C19 and the Olympics.... oh, and Fukushima of course.

While scientists debate — and sometimes refute — flawed claims by one another, nonscientists also scan preprint servers for data that might appear to bolster their pet conspiracy theories.

"If we consider the level of public acceptance to nuclear power and the situation regarding the restart of nuclear plants, it is indispensable to raise the ratio of renewables to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to boost energy self-sufficiency," the association said.

Here is your main reason right there for this.

After 2011 people in Japan became scared of Nuclear Power after constant fear mongering from news media organizations, and now talking about Nuclear Power is no longer politically viable.

Prices of electricity have gone up, and will continue to go up. Also things like the blackout a few years ago in Hokkaido also showed how because the capacity for electric production has gone down, and the grid in Japan has become less redundant and robust, because Nuclear power was one of the main sources of energy on this archipelago.

This is all because of misinformation and deeply rooted non-science based beliefs about Particle Science and Nuclear Energy, which many politicians now exploit all the time in order to win elections.

What pressure? The only pressure is a result of own and self declared goal values.

Japan under pressure on fiscal 2030 greenhouse gas emissions reduction target

Pressure from who? From third World Nations and CCP China that are happy to make any sort of promises without any intention of following up on them?

Only the naive Western and Japanese leaders feel actually obliged to act on these random greenhouse gas figure that bureacrats picked out of thin air.

zichi:

Prior to the nuclear disaster, nuclear energy generated 30% of total power. Today, it's down to less than 5%. The life cycles of the reactors will come to an end but the likely hood of new ones being built are very slim.

I hope not. If you are serious about reducing fossil fuel consumption (which I agree is a good thing, even though I do not believe the "climate" narrative), you must be for nuclear power, because it is the only realistic large-scale option. And I think you are missing that the technologies under development now are completely different from Gen 2 reactors like the ones in Fukushima.

And by the way, there is gigantic fudging going on with the so-called "renewables". I.e. check where those wood chips come from that are burned in UK power stations as "renewable",

People think climate is linear.

Whatever mankind may do, the climate change will happen, it's because of what has been emitted during the last century.

Instead of fear of climate change, plenty of time to adapt to it : type of crops to change, improvement of constructions and water management, etc.

What we get from politicians : CO2 taxes everywhere especially not for countries who are not contributing much to GHG.

And why set aside all benefits : a lot of new agricultural areas (Canada, Groenland, Russia...), less cold areas (one dies much easier because of coldness than heat).

The understanding of the unbalance evolution of nature is necessary : more humans means more change (more than 200 000 of us per day !). So better adapt than ask for population reduction, which is not going to happen soon except if you wish a 3rd world war to be full nuclear.
