A government source said that unless Ishiba accepts Tamaki's demands, including a consumption tax reduction aimed at boosting private spending, the DPP will not support any bill or budget the LDP submits to parliament in the future.

Policy agenda which usually defense and tax increase, Japanese voters already decide that's why opposition gain significant seats.

The more I read, the more I am sure that Ishiba was elected as a sacrificial lamb for the LDP! They knew they were going to get hammered for their multitude of scandals, the Abe slush funds, connection to the Unification church, so they picked Ishiba to take the fall. Now he was just voted as PM, and already they are talking about him stepping down, but first please try and fix the money scandal problem on your way out! Poor guy.

The DPP has promised to raise the income threshold for paying tax from 1.03 million yen ($6,700) to 1.78 million yen, while the Finance Ministry has apparently opposed it, arguing the proposal would reduce annual tax revenues by about 7.6 trillion yen.

The regressive Finance Ministry.

I doubt they protested when Abenomics slashed corporate taxes and the effect of corporate welfare on tax revenues. And the tax scofflaws of the LDP with their slush funds.

Already setting him up to fail, using words like "lame duck", "going to struggle" and all the rest, no one is giving him nor this government a chance.

It's pretty sad when reporters or news repeating outlets jump on the bandwagon of failure, when nothing has even begun.

I give him credit for a couple of things, 1st taking the thankless job. Anyone who was elected as PM with the LDP would have had to suffer through this election loss. He did it with dignity. 2nd he is sticking to his promises of looking to run things right.

He deserves the chance! I hope that he is able to put all these naysayers to bed!

It’s actually the exact opposite. The MOF despised Abenomics. Their obsession has always been a return to fiscal orthodoxy—not to please voters like politicians. However, they had to bow to Abe, as he was very powerful.

You seriously couldn’t script this stuff. What a mess, calls to step down from within his own party after what, a month? Isn’t that some sort of new world record or something?

Oh Japan….we love you dearly, but there’s an old saying. You get the leaders you deserve that rings very true right now.

The opposition parties should utilize this to gain the needed seats in the upper house elections and only support this government on things that are needed to keep the country Afloat, Then call out how useless the LDP is and how they are not worth voting for. They would be stupid to call for a no confidence and force a new election now. They need to use this time to discredit LDP and say how useless they are. It is the only way to gain the needed seats in the upper house to be able to push through any changes they plan on once they do call a no confidence vote

Policy agenda???

The LDP cronies couldn't come up with a new idea if it but then! More of the same from these parasites!

Ishiba is indeed the fall guy. He is an interim PM. They talked about the next PM as soon as he was elected in September.

Unfortunately, the people have little say in all of this. If Japan were the 51st state. It’d be a red state with authoritarian elements.
