U.S. President Joe Biden's visit to Laos is also uncertain as he would be in a lame-duck period after abandoning his reelection bid for the Nov 5 presidential race, making way for Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee.

Doesn’t matter with 80 million US bombs scattered across Laos still left unanswered. The country will not be a Japan. Besides theUS is overreaching in Asia.

South American nations will always be under the US shadow. Somehow the US thinks ASEAN nations will not be under the Chinese shadow.

Have they dropped all demands of reparations? In any event, Laos's current problem is the crippling debt left by China.

South American nations will always be under the US shadow. Somehow the US thinks ASEAN nations will not be under the Chinese shadow.

Any ASEAN country that is able to free itself of Chinese backed corrupt dictatorship is a potential ally of the US.

dont worry Nihon, whether you go for ASEAN summit or not wont carry much effect. ASEAN is a loose organization, they never achieve any significant consensus all this while, and all they will say every years is : i will be friends with China, i will be friends with US, i will be friends with Japan, i will be friends with basically anybody. Anyone got problem in this region, please come and we sit down and discuss. This is all they will say. If any ASEAN members got problem, like Myanmar Junta, nobody will say anything. Philippines be bullied, nobody will say anything. Seriously i dont know what they do sitting there

And miss out on making that dorky chain link handshake?! No!

The next PM will be lucky to miss it. I hear these summits are pretty dull.

Not Malaysia and Malaysian King Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar who will pay a state visit to China from Sept. 19 to 22, per Chinese Embassy in Moto Azabu.

Those who have nothing better to do will visit Beijing and enjoy its lavish state dinners, all paid for by money-starved host, and come away still very happy to be in the American fold.

That photo. Is it illegal for a woman to lead an ASEAN nation?

Sooner or later all ASEAN countries will be part of BRICS..

Japan being the concubine of US is losing great opportunities..

Global South will rise..

Doesn't matter if the Japanese prime Minister showed up or not. Japan is in a steady decline and a serious political chaos as the LDP internal struggling of who chair the party is persisting.

After the death of Abe-san, the lack of direction in the Kishida cabinet has shown Japan is no where to complete with the influence of China to South East Asian countries. If Kishida-san is a capable leader, why did he resign abruptly and without reason? By the way, there are a huge ethnic Chinese communities and population in S.E.A. and they were strongly pro-PRC !

As long as the US government under Biden supporting the Netanyahu govt. onslaughting the Palestinians in Gaza and West bank, the name "USA" is highly resentful for many countries including S.E.A. countries as they were seeking an alternative to express their frustration. "BRICS" is the answer for them and the Chinese currency the "Reiminbi" will be the more popular for these countries to trade to replace the US dollars. The Japanese yen is history and forgotten by almost everyone. so Japan is no where to compare economic influences as China does, not just politically but also economically!

NO! This is absolutely not the case. Indonesia, Malaysia, Burnei these muslim S.E.A. countries hate America with their souls, the daily tragedy of the Palestinians made them very angry and they want to ally with China to reflect their frustrations !

Even Vietnam has much higher trading volume with China topped 100 billion dollars because Vietnam knows much of their products were actually made in China just the final assembly and the packaging works done in Vietnam and exporting through their ports only!

Visiting a country doesn't make it your ally, but I suppose that is all China has left.

Only the muslim ones.

Did you get a first dedollarizer yet?

After 80 years anti-Americanism is baked into these muslim countries. Was it the right decision on behalf of the US to support Israel? Perhaps not but it isn't going to change now.
