"There have been concerns over the project in light of the risk to the companies' reputations. But Mitsui and Mitsubishi seem to recognize its importance in ensuring Japan's energy security," he said.
Is there a doubt in anyone's' mind that Mitsui and Mitsubishi's concern about Ukraine and its reputations only extends to how it affects their profit margins? This goes for the other companies joining the sanctions, and the ones like JT or the ones above who chose not to.

India and China is buying them for cheap anyway. Is so stupid to think sanctioning oil and gas is gonna do anything. There are plenty of nations out there who happily snatch up these cheap deals. Eventually the more poor countries.

There is no words to describe what is happening in Ukraine, the sanctions against Russia reflect on the brutialtiy of this war in Ukraine. However, people should never forget the situation pushed on the People of Germany after the first world war. The never ending inflation which not only caused people to by bread in wheel barrels but wiped generations of families savings, a person who retired from their job would buy a ticket for a train ride to the next station with their entire life savings at the time just to end their lives at the next station because of how desperate the situation was. Not only these horrors did this create but extremism even right at the beginning of the war with the communists revolution or the Munich Soviet Republic in 1919. Not only did it cause this but the Horrors of a dark legacy that it put Germany on afterwards. To this day even myself the mentioning of the Treaty of Versailles brings chills down my spine. Sanctions in Russia are a good way to corner it, however be careful to not take this too far because you might be waking up a great darkness that the west might regret in the next 15 of 20 years. Do not take this too far, do not let history repeat itself and Never forget the horrors of the Treaty of Versailles!

The J-turn was always on the cards…there’s no other way.

Boris Johnson is now on a whirlwind tour abroad, starting with begging for oil from Saudi Arabia. Joe Biden was begging Saudi Arabia and UAE to pick up the phone - the former was too busy arranging a meeting with China. Then begging for oil from Venezuela, a country sanctioned by USA!!!!!!!!! You couldn't make this up!
USA then has talks with China on how it could help with the Russian-Ukraine problem. Some advice to USA: if you want someone to help, you don't threaten them beforehand.

IMO, Japan has to do what Japan has to do to keep its people healthy. Just keep in mind that what Putin is doing today to Ukraine (and what it did yesterday to Georgia, Chechnya, and Libya), it may try to do tomorrow to Japan. The man is clearly psychopathic.
On the subject of energy, the current war illustrates the importance of energy independence. To that end, Japan should do all that it can to develop its potential renewable energy resources.......wind, geothermal, solar, and ocean currents. Every kilowatt produced locally is one less kilowatt that has to be produced with imported petroleum or coal.

Most national leaders are psychopathic. He is at the upper end of the scale, but not exceptional in that regard.

well you need to think about that before to follow american instructions received by fax from white house, folks.
now deal with consequences based on your "american vassalism"...so bad all of us will need to pay from own pockets for this price...

It's an obvious consideration, especially for any country not directly involved in this conflict. Japan is far from energy self-sufficient, and shouldn't cripple themselves just to please the US. If they have secured alternatives beforehand, that is a different story.
Like Pukey said, we can see what sanctioning before securing any alternatives ends up getting you.
It was even worse than that, because they were meeting with President Maduro to beg for oil, while simultaneously insisting that he still isn't the president. They should ask Guaido for oil, see how far it gets them. They did at least get American news outlets to write a few nice news articles about Venezuela first.

Like I said, Japan talks the talk but can't walk the walk.
