Yes and no. The US is the guarantor of Japan's defense, but China is not the main driver of the Japanese economy. Japan found a way use China as a manufacturing base, but has other options. The question is, how long does Japan want to submit to the aggressors in Beijing? Remember, they claim the Senkakus and will not stop there. Eventually, Japan will have to stand up to imperialists in Beijing anyway.

Yeah and so why is China the only Asian country aggressively and heavily investing in militaristic activities and sending threating messages to its neighbors and the US who was there helping them in Manchuria during WW2. Just the other day once again China threatened the US yet again. Don't ask for anything, by keeping its currency devalued. No China is set bent in having Japan taste its steel because of Manchuria and have forgotten nothing from that war.
